Wow well done Raqibul! Too bad he couldn't score a century but still it's a great innings. If he can continue this consistency, he can be a serious threat to Riyad in the ODI team if he isn't already. His average so far in the DPL, 47 with a SR of an 88 compared to Riyad's 35 with a SR of a 75. Riyad obviously bowls so that gives him an advantage compared to a specialist batsman like Raqibul but with Shakib coming back, Riyad's bowling importance goes down and the gap narrows between Riyad and Raqibul.

By the way, it's a bit disappointing that the appreciation is different for our players. Had a player like Soumya, Marshall or Shabbir had this kind of innings, I'm sure people would've responded a lot more differently. Whereas since it's Raqibul, people seem to just shrug it off, same goes for guys like Imrul and Junaid. I know it's because he's been around for a while and they weren't great in the national team but still why can't people just appreciate well played innings?

You are correct. It was indeed a superb innings. 98 from 60 something deliveries is not a matter of joke. We must be thankful for innings such as this.

Having said that, Rokibul also had a 300 run innings before he got a national call. I know how excited I was about Rokibul after that innings. But he certainly failed to show any glimpse of his talent in international arena and got discarded

So, I am happy that he is in good form and i really wish him all the best. Hope he will make it back to national team. But I will hold my horses and will not be melodramatic about it.

That time was different though. Yes he scored a 300 but that was his only big score that FC season I believe. The rest of his innings were not anything special. This time around he's showing consistency with 4 fifties, an avg of a 47 and most notably a high SR of an 88. I think that's the biggest thing that separates him from others, the high SR and that's the difference between this time and last.

I disagree though that he didn't show any glimpse of talent. In the beginning of his career he was actually pretty good until he unfortunately fell away a bit in 2010 and hit a rough patch for quite awhile but now seems to be coming back a bit.

Can't believe he's only 24. He was a big time prospect at one time. He and Rubel came out of the same U19 team but look where Rubel is compared to Subashis.

Injuries have mainly caused Subashis downfall. Had he stayed healthy, he could've played some matches by now in the national team.

His record looks very good. He's definitely someone we should look at if he can keep this consistency up

His SR is something to talk about. He was known for his slow SR but looks like he has done some hard work on this. If he clicks in international arena, exciting times lie ahead..

Well thats the sad part about our cricket.

Substandard bowlers like Rubel are spearheads of our bowling tells a sad tale about our pace bowling unit. Mashrafe despite all the injuries still being termed as our best bowler tells us that

1) He is a lion-hearted cricketer
2) Our pace bowling battery is horrendous

Dont know much about shuvashis roy but it wont really mean much to compare him with my current pacers. We appear to pick pace bowlers like a lottery, hence the selection of Sir Don Abul.

I can get your point bro

Ya of course it's sad. Our pace attack in ODIs is not bad actually. Mash despite all his injuries is still pretty good and Rubel as we saw in the NZ series is good in ODIs. Shafiuls also decent and Al-Amin looks a good prospect as well.

Tests are where our pacers are really poor. Only Robiul looks like the decent pacer currently in Tests. The rest are not Test standard and it doesn't seem like that will change anytime soon unfortunately.

I seriously cant recalling him taking wickets anywhere!

So what's going on? Why isn't RTD playing for the Netherlands in the T20 Qualifiers? Has he retired from international cricket already? Pity!

Heard he has become free-lancer, playing in only leagues. Probably sees no future playing for Netherlands, pity he didn't stay in SA as he surely would have been an exciting player and could have rivaled Shakib.

Shamsur has been flat out poor in the DPL. In 11 innings now, his average is only a 27 with a SR of a 62 with 1 hundred and no fifties. Can't understand why he's inconsistent. Seems like he's got a good technique, definitely better than a lot of our other guys but for some reason he isn't as consistent as he should be.

which is pretty much what we want for the #7 spot in ODIs, someone who's a decent bowler and can bowl quite a few overs but has genuine batting potential preferably someone who is good at accelerating the run rate from their first ball and that doesn't just mean hitting bou ndaries that also means being able to push form 1s, 2s and 3s. sabbir's bowling seems to be coming along, if he works on his batting and has a better output in that suit then he'l start being a contender for the short formats.

It's not the lack of shots that's the problem. It's the run rate pressure that causes him to throw his wicket away. It's the lack of experience I believe rather than a lack of ability.

You see bro, its not that we don't have quality spinners. Ofcourse we do! Raj, gazi, Shakib are quality.

But the others are not really that great, so it boils down the fact that its still more about "Quantity" than "Quality". For LOIs, we have quality spinners but when it come to Tests many of them are pretty average IMO, razzak for example. Also, success of SLA has a lot more to do with our local batsman being RBH and/or they are poor against spinners. I wish we had more left handed batsman in domestic which would eventually lead to more Offies being available. Every team fielding 2 specialist SLAs is sickening to say the least

The thing is, out of those 50 odd SLAs, we only have a handful of quality left arm spinners from which only one has had decent performance in test level. Gazi has been fairly successful in Tests as well.

BTW, about the sickening thing. The fact that it becomes seriously one-dimensional at times. And since the problem begins from the grass-root levels means that it will go onto haunt our local batsman. Why Local batsman? Since they are facing too many left armers, they are ill prepared to face quality seam bowling and so on. Why was it that our A team failed miserably in the England tour despite the team having boasted players with plenty of international experience. And its not that 1 or 2 teams go in with 2 SLAs, every single team at almost every domestic format seems to field atleast 2/3 Left arm spinners in every match. BTW, about Offies, there is barely much in the country. And as for pacers, its a must to have ATLEAST 2 pacers in your side and for tests ideally 3 of them.

IMO, we need more variation in the bowling attack starting from the domestics. Domestic side needs to concentrate more on offies and pace bowlers for the time being. This is my personal opinion.

Best national rejects and the ones who have a chance to make the next ODI team were Imrul, Raqibul, Farhad Reza, Enamul, Elias and Arafat. Although it could be a bit tough for Imrul and Raqibul to make it since Riyad, Naeem and Mominul solidified their spots. Anamul's the only weak link in the batting unit so perhaps one of them could make it ahead of him. Whether we like Farhad Reza or not, he's 1 of our best if not the best and only pace all rounders which will always have him in consideration for the T20I and ODI teams. He could beat out Zia with these stats backing him. The spinners will have a tough time though they no doubt give competition now to Razzak.

Best new players from this DPL were, Saikat Ali, Abdul Mazid, Taibur Rahman, Taijul Islam and Shabbir(bowling only). Shabbir bowling wise could have made a strong case but he still has a ways to go with his batting. All these players should without a doubt make the next Academy/A team tour.

very happy to see the captain & the VC of national team scoring runs and helping their teams to win.
This must be Ryad's best achievement in domestic cricket.
Mushy's consistency and his strike rate has been amazing, he has improved a lot on his strike rate, he used to be on the slower side before.
Kaedge is in very good form, but his SR is still a concern, Rock has also improved his strike rate.
I would want to see KAedge in the ODI squad vs Srl , the opening pair for all 3 matches should be Tamim-Shamsu but in case any of them is unable to play I would like KAedge to come in.

^I was thinking the exact same thing. Isn't that Nazmul at the back in the Prothom Alo picture? Good to see him on the road to recovery. Hope he can start playing soon.
