The Premier Division Cricket League, the country's most coveted 50-over competition, is most likely to get underway from March 15.The inter-club players' transfer will be held on March 7 and March 8.
“A club will be allowed to register ten foreign players but will be able to field three in a match. We increased the number because you know the national and under-19 players will be busy with national duties at that time,” said Yunus.

Pakistani players have been known to dominate the league in the past but Yunus, also the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) media committee chairman, said that they have doubts whether the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will allow their players to participate in the league after having denied them No-Objection-Certificates (NOCs) for the ongoing BPL.http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=269010

Why is DPL not considered as List A matches, anyone?

Not an expert on this issue but I think it's because it just involves Dhaka based teams. In order to gain List A status, we'd need all regions to play in order to qualify.

Yeah it's quite annoying when you try and find out a player's list a stats, as it can be quite misleading. For example Mominul's list a stats look awful; avg 15 sr of 55, but he was actually 2nd highest run getter in the DPL a few seasons back. The other thing is you can't get a player's overall DPL stats either, so it can be difficult to judge how good and consistent a player is in the 50 over format.

M.H.Rubel

Why is DPL not considered as List A matches, anyone?

Its mainly due to infrastructure. None of the clubs have fascility that meets the minimum requirement by ICC.

Better, more sporting pitches and world class foreign bowlers can make the DPL which alongside the BPL is easily the most competitive cricket in the country, a good place to develop ODI players. Sadly, the organizers are already making money off the status quo and won't invest in real curators and bowlers like Steyn, Starc and others.

. . . . . . . . . . . http://www.prothom-alo.com/detail/date/2013-05-14/news/352012

While the president did not provide a clear picture of the proposed changes, he did however state that the division of players in different categories for the players’ transfer — similar to the Bangladesh Premier League’s auctioning system — was one such proposal that the clubs had provided. . . . . . . . . http://www.thedailystar.net/beta2/news/league-by-mid-june/

I blame the pool system for decrease in pace bowlers in the whole country. If you have followed cricket you will find in many occasion leading pace bowlers who played any international match on that year was taken to the pool ended up not getting picked by any big money team, as they spent their quota on getting national team batsmen or spinners. On many occasion pacers were left playing for bottom teams.

Cricketers to boycott Dhaka Premier League (http://www.thedailystar.net/beta2/news/cricketers-to-boycott-dhaka-premier-league/)

Bangladeshi cricketers on Monday announced to boycott the upcoming Dhaka Premier League protesting its new payment system.

Debaprata Paul, secretary of Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), in a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium said all national and domestic payers will boycott the league.

They also demanded that the authorities concerned pay the dues to the cricketers of the Bangladesh Premier League before the start of the league. Debaprata also stated the cricket board is yet to talk to the players regarding the changes in the bylaws of the league this year.

Nizamuddin Chowdhury, acting CEO of Bangladesh Cricket Board, told The Daily Star that the board would look into the matter once CWAB officially places its demands.

DPL seems to attract good players every year. Hopefully the List A recongination will help.

I think mushy has some sort of involvement in bringing Chingbura to Sheikh Jamal.

DPL is not only a cricket competition but more importantly it is a source of income for crickters who are not in the national team setup.

Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2012-13 starts September 10

The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2012-13 will commence September 10, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) decided today.

CCDM Chairman Jalal Yunus said: “We are in the final stages of preparing the itinerary. The complete schedule will be circulated to the clubs soon. The teams had requested us to give them some time for coordination and training and all things considered we felt that September 10 should be an ideal date to start the League.”

The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a 12-team one day competition under the jurisdiction of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), is the main limited overs event in the domestic calendar. The BCB has decided that from this season onwards the League’s matches will have List A status.

ICC has left list a status to individual boards now. If any boards approve it, that is enough for ICC. That's what I read in some news papers few months back.

Its good that the BPL teams have atleast paid the first 50% and hence this time around, there has been less fuss over the player payments. However, the next 50% should be payed ASAP and that woud gurantee a hug player pool by next BPL.

Yuvraj to play from 10th to 25th September. Later on Brothers Union will try to bring Rana Naved and Mohammed Yousuf, some good names but hope star signings can play the full tournament. Waiting to see activity of both Abhani and Mohammedans, should get few more Indians like Tiwary, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel Etc.

Just went to Pakpassion and the posters there were like: " Thank God/Our players dont need that kind of money/they wont get paid anyways".

Historically a lot of Pakistanis have played in DPL and earned more in DPL than what they earn in domestics throughout the year.

Rumour: Azhar Mahmood signed by BU. They are making a very strong side on paper. Tamim, Kapali, Mehrab, Mathews, Senanayke, Azhar... what are some of the other clubs doing? Seems like DPL has the potential to bring bigger international stars than BPL if properly pitched and approached

Not really. They are playing in Big Bash, CPL, SLPL. They are playing more internationals than almost any other nations. These players make tons of money. There is a very good chance PAK players will play in upcoming IPL's. So PAK players are doing very good financially.

It is our loss really. BCB lost huge amount of money from BPL 2013 since broadcasting company refused to pay them contracted amount as PAK players did not play. Historically it has always been PAK players who played in bunch in DPL.

Those are Pakistani national teamers. Your forgetting about the Pakistani domestic players who make up a good part of the DPL. Those are the guys that will suffer since they'd make a lot more playing in the BPL and DPL in addition to Pakistani domestics. It hurts both sides of course but it hurts the Pakistani players more since we can instead get players from other countries, mainly SL.

Hope they can resolve their differences though because it could only improve the DPL and BPL having the Pakistanis in

According to Akram Khan, the #2, #3, and #4 and pace spots are still wide open. Anamul, Jahurul, SN, Shamsur, Naeem, Raqibul, Mominul, and Marshall are being considered for these positions. So the DPL will be crucial for them. Lets hope they all deliver here.

Found this somewhere:

http://www.cricnepal.com/8161/nepalese-cricket-captain-interested-to-play-in-dhaka/

By Nischal Tiwari on Sunday September 8 2013
Kathmandu – Nepalese cricket captain Paras Khadka expressed his interest to play club cricket in Dhaka and believes he will be able to cope with the challenges if he gets the nod.
Speaking in a reception program of the national cricket coach Pubudu Dasanayke at Hotel Crown Plaza on Friday the fighting all-rounder expressed his desire to play in Dhaka. “I have the confidence to face the challenge. I want to play overseas as much as possible to earn experience,” said the tall all-rounder.
Paras is a middle-order batsman and bowls medium pace. He represented Nepal in three Under-19 World Cups in 2004, 2006 and 2008 while he is also a regular member in the senior national team. Groomed for captaincy through positions of leadership in age-group teams, he took over the national captaincy in 2009. A man for a pressure situation Paras also had a stint in Canada as he played for Ontario Cricket Club and Academy.
Now Paras looks forward to take his team to the World T20 scheduled to take place in Bangladesh next year. “We are preparing hard. We have spinners like Basanta Regmi and the team is working hard to attain a slot in the next year’s T20 World Cup,” said Paras.
The World Twenty20 Qualifiers, from which six of the 16 teams will progress to the main tournament in Bangladesh next year, is scheduled to take place between November 15 and 30 in the UAE.

I am scared of DPL List A stats inflation. At the end of Tournment players like Junaid, Zia, Imrul, Ullah, and others who are not regarded well by some of us Fan might have List A average of 50+

No, thats not exactly my point. Players like Nasir, Mominul and Shabbir if they end up with List A average of 50+ I don't mind at all. However, player like Jahurul, Junaid and other sissy's having an average of 50+ In List A will be huge embrasment as some will back them to be included in the upcoming NZ series. I want all the players to do well but it does not mean they have to average over 50+. You as an expert and fan following those sissy's do you believe they should average 50+ and why? and Lastly say Jahurul or Zunaid has an List A average of 50+ and someone like Mominul he has 35-40, who would you pick or how would you judge as to who is a good player or not?

MohammedC
September 10, 2013, 08:04 AM
If you cant play better than sissies then you don't deserve to be in the national team.

Jadukor
September 10, 2013, 08:08 AM
averaging 50+ is not a lottery. people would have play well consistently to average 50+
under same bowling conditions if sissys can manage to average 50 then the good players will average 70

I can't either. There might not be 24 pure openers. But top orders batsmen can be counted as well. Whereas Zia is lower and Rok is middle order batsmen. And Elias Sunny..he thinks ball going over the infield is a boundary and starts celebrating without completing the run.

Would this innings put Nafees Iqbal back in contention? 150 is a good score at any level. Plus this guy was the best top order batsman in the BCL in run scoring. Guys such as Jahurul, SN, and Shamsur aren't top quality either. Not saying he should automatically jump these guys, but I think he should be given a thought.

If he can score couple of big innings before they announce the squad he has a chance. But I want to know why did he retire today with almost 5 overs to go. Was he injured or was he unfit ?

Actually Rubel has been very decent in ODIs against all opposition for the past 3 years. He sucks with the red ball, but he's been more than decent (esp by our standards) in 50 over games.

So what if Rubel took 18-6? May be he bowled a good spell or maybe he was just lucky.

None of us watched the match so we cannot really talk about the quality. And regardless, the DPL matches have always been competitive and its more important to our players than BPL because there are fewer foreign players which means more responsibility on our players and also, 50 over format gives better preparation for the players. BPL is just for exposure, experience with other players as well getting better in T20s which we are horribly at.

Agreed. Rubel showed promise and under good guidance he can perform. After his injury and surgery, he has not been able to bounce back. I wonder what kind of post-operative rehabilitation program (if any) he had.

coaches come and go for any international team it doesn't mean someone should should turn from Wasim Akram to Prasad just because bowling coach has changed. An international cricketer needs to be able to work on his own skills and game plans and not wait for the coach to tell him every single thing like sheep.
If he has limitations due to injuries then that's really sad but in that case let him take some time off and get things sorted out. We suffered long enough under Sahahadat, Rubel and co... We have two huge tournaments coming up soon and we can't let idiots screw things up during death overs. Its time we find bowlers that can bowl to a field and a plan even if we have to sacrifice some pace for it.

Harsh to say Rubel will always suck in international cricket. We sometimes forget that he's still only 23. So even though he hasn't developed the way we've wanted him to, he's still got lots of time on his side. I agree though, if he doesn't perform in the next few series, then he should take a break from international cricket and go back to domestics. Robiul and Zia have done well in their chances and Al-Amin also outplayed Rubel in the A team series. So he needs to deliver or else he'll behind the pecking order

Just because of his 6 wickets in the recent DPL match, people have started to support him, lets wait until he completes DPL without being Injured and also without being the most expensive player in terms of Highest Economy rate and bowling average, then we will definately have a clear picture of his bowling state. I hope he does well, because he played well v NZ.

Intelligence and ability to learn (acquired through good education) ultimately makes a huge difference. In international cricket, a lot of players with limited abilities have had great careers while talented individuals could not survive. Two great examples are Rahul Dravid and Steve Waugh in order to understand how one could overcome limitations and be successful cricketers within a team comprising of much more talented players.

Off topic - I am not talking about surnames in general - just SInhalese surnames. There are many ethnicities where surnames come first and in many where there are no connections in names to parental lineage. That's been a huge part of my text analytics work and patents over the years - name resolution and disambiguation and profiling. It's fascinating but that's another thread another day.
