Caribbean Premier League

Yah, just as the title suggests, came to know this new tournament will host 6 franchises and will start on July 29th.

Till now, Micheal Clarke and Adam Gilchrist have joined in as international player.

So the obvious question :- Are any of our tigers getting in? Shall be a great exposure nonetheless.

Players in the Caribbean Twenty20 Premier League draft have been divided into three groups, with a few players from each slated to form a squad of 15 for every participating franchise. There are six teams in all - Antigua, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Pool A features international cricketers- 14 from West Indies and 12 from overseas. Pool B includes six international and over 100 local players, a few of whom have represented West Indies. Under-23 players from across the country will make up Pool C. The draft will take place on June 5 in Jamaica.

A head coach, assistant coach, one West Indian and one international player, designated as 'franchise players' (who will be among the 15), will make up each team's selection committee, which will be in charge of all strategies for the draft. These franchise players are not classified under the pools and will be appointed to each team by the league.

Ross Taylor, Muttiah Muralitharan, Herschelle Gibbs, Adam Gilchrist, Mohammad Hafeez and Ricky Ponting make up the international franchise players, while Marlon Samuels, Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle form their West Indies counterparts.

Apart from the two franchise players, each team can pick four players from Pool A, seven players from Pool B and two from Pool C. Players selected from Pool C have to be under 23 years of age before September 1, 2013. All teams are expected to work under a salary cap, which is yet to be specified. A total of 24 matches will be played in the competition that starts on 30 July and ends on August 24.

Pool A

West Indies: Andre Russell, Darren Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Dwayne Smith, Fidel Edwards, Johnson Charles, Kemar Roach, Kieran Powell, Lendl Simmons, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Ravi Rampaul, Samuel Badree, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tino Best.

Pool B

Nasir's time will come. Even though in our eyes he's a star player and with the likes of Tamim and Shakib, he's not there yet in the world's eyes. If he sustains the good performances, which he should, he'll have premier leagues calling for him.

Hope Tamim and Shakib do well so other BD players get chances in this league. It should be a great tournament. Looking forward to it

FYI guy, lets stop jumping to conclusions. BD people have a real bad habit.

These list was made some time ago, probably before Nasir met the doctor. In-order to be in the list, he needs to make himself available at first. I think he will get a chance soon enough. Someone like Nasir will definitely attract the teams

The Caribbean Premier League draft takes place on Wednesday, 5 June in Jamaica, and fans and players alike.ill be able to keep track of which players are going to which franchise team via social media and the CPL website, www.cplt20.com.

As of 12pm Jamaica time (1pm Eastern Caribbean Time) on Wednesday, fans will be able to log on to the CPL website or the CPL Facebook page, found at www.facebook.com/carnivalt20 or follow the CPL Twitter feed, @cpl_t20 to see the six franchise teams being filled with players as the draft goes on and the players are bought.

“There has been much anticipation about the draft; fans are eager to know which teams their favourite players are going to be drafted to play on, and the players themselves want to know which country they will be suiting up for so we will be using the power of social media to get the word out as quickly as we can,” said Damien O’Donohoe, CPL CEO.

The Selection Committee for each team – which consists of the Head Coach, Assistant Coach and the International and West Indian franchise players for that particular team – will pick the teams, and the process will be supervised by the Most Honourable PJ Patterson, Walter Scott, QC and Lance Gibbs of the CPL Cricket Committee.  Also two outside officiators have been appointed by the Tournament Committee and will be present as well; they are former Jamaican Chief Justice Lensley Wolfe and former PWC Senior Partner Tony Lewars.

“Although most of the West Indian and International franchise players are unable to physically attend the draft due to playing commitments they will be with their coaches utilising technology and of course they have been in touch with their coaches to talk strategy and possible draft picks already, the selection teams will all be connected via Skype during the entire draft,” explained O’Donohoe. “Obviously the franchise players have a vested interest in seeing the best possible team compiled and so they have been very involved in the process.”

The player draft is exactly that, a draft.  Unlike the IPL which does an auction, CPL has chosen a more fair and controlled system for their first year. “A draft ensures that salaries are kept within the established range,” explained O’Donohoe. “We wanted to provide solid income for the players, but move away from the auction/sale format and ensure consistency within the draft round picks.  This format encourages picking of players who have been top performers and gives them higher salaries for being picked in the earlier rounds.”

The Team Composition

Each team will be made up from 15 squad players with the first two players of each team being the pre-selected West Indian and international franchise players.  The remaining 13 players will be four (4) Elite players (West Indian and International), seven (7) Eligible players and two (2) Under 23 players who will be selected from three (3) pools:

POOL A - ELITE

·         A total of 26 players available for selection

·         Fourteen (14) of these players are Elite West Indian players and eleven (11) are Elite International players

·         Each team will have four (4) selections from this pool

·         A maximum of two (2) Elite International players may be selected per squad from this Pool

POOL B – ELIGIBLE

·         A total of six (6) International players, over 100 Domestic players and the balance of players from Pool A who were not selected

·         Each team will have five (5) selections from this pool

·         A maximum of one (1) International player may be selected from this pool

POOL B – ELIGIBLE/UNDER 23

·         Developing, talented Under-23 players from across the region and the balance of Pool B players who have not been selected

·         Each team will have four (4) selections from this pool

·         The first two (2) selections will be done on the same basis as in Pool A and B, with each team getting a pick

·         The last two (2) selections will be non-competitive and teams must select Under 23 players from their country only (in the case of Antigua and St. Lucia this will mean players from the Leeward and Windward Islands respectively)

·         No International players are in this pool

Player Salaries

O’Donohoe also outlined the salaries for the players in the draft.

·         Franchise Players – US$150,000

·         Pool A - Elite

o   1st Round – US$100,000

o   2nd Round – US$90,000

o   3rd Round – US$70,000

o   4th Round – US$50,000

·         Pool B – Eligible

o   1st Round – US$40,000

o   2nd Round – US$25,000

o   3rd Round – US$25, 000

o   4th Round – US$10,000

o   5th Round – US$10,000

·         Pool C – Under 23/Eligible – all four (4) rounds are US$5,000 each

Post Draft Trades

Immediately following the draft, the team selection committees have a maximum of 24 hours to discuss internally and with other selection committees whether they want to do a trade for players amongst themselves, confirmed O’Donohoe.

“Only one trade will be allowed per team; players can only be traded from within the same pools; and no further trades may be done between teams after the 24 hour period following all draft selections,” he noted.  “We believe we have made the draft process as fair as possible, and that all teams will be given the opportunity to pick the best players possible.  We are excited to see the outcome of this very first draft for the inaugural Caribbean Premier League, and we encourage our fans to follow the process online.”

O’Donohoe said on the tail of the draft, team names and captains will be announced soon.

Depends on which island. Barbados has fast pitches. Guyana good spin condition (Im afraid of what Narine will do there) St Lucia good for Batting. Trinidad tends to have slower pitches. Not too sure on the others. Depends on what the ground staff do. Gayle plays in Jamaica so you know how that's going to be.

Unfortunately the tournament starts July 30th. So it'll be a long wait. Still it'll get our minds off of this mess. Also the A team tour will be taking place in August.

In a way I'm kind of happy that we're not in the Champions trophy. We should be 100% focused on this mess and see who else is involved so we can weed out the bad apples.

Going back to the CPL, both Shakib and Tamim's teams have only 3 foreigners each. I think they'll be able to get in to all the matches. It should be a good test for them playing against the Windies pacers as they have many of them

“WE ARE THRILLED WITH THE FINAL TEAM NAMES AND THE LOGOS; WE BELIEVE THEY ARE REFLECTIVE OF THE CHARACTER AND CULTURE OF EACH COUNTRY AND I’M SURE EACH TEAM WILL LIVE UP TO THEIR NAME,” SAID DAMIEN O’DONOHOE, CPL CEO. “OUR FANS HAD SOME VERY INSPIRED SUGGESTIONS WHICH WERE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION, AND DEFINITELY CONTRIBUTED TO THE CREATIVE PROCESS WHICH RESULTED IN THESE NAMES.”

After weeks of speculations and hundreds of suggestions via social media, the much-anticipated Caribbean Premier League franchise team names have been announced and their logos revealed.

Antigua will go by the name Antigua Hawksbills™, which speaks to the hawksbill turtle, the most common sea turtle in Antigua, and an endangered species. Animal heads are familiar and popular sports teams branding icons, and Antigua’s logo of the hawksbill’s head is colourful, dynamic and strong. (Twitter: @ANUHawksbills; Facebook: www.facebook.com/AntiguaHawksbills)

Barbados fans will be cheering for the Barbados Tridents™ whose gold and blue colours are front and centre on the logo which depicts a trident formed as a crown representing the notion of kings, and a desire to win and be dominant. It is also a reference to carnival costumes and Barbados’ independent spirit. (Twitter: @BIMTridents; Facebook: www.facebook.com/BarbadosTridents)

Guyana is probably best known for its pristine amazon rainforest, and so it is no surprise that team Guyana will go by the moniker Guyana Amazon Warriors™. The team logo was created using the shapes within the national flag to create arrows and represent the dynamism of the team and its warrior spirit. (Twitter: @GYAmazonWarrior; Facebook: www.facebook.com/GuyanaAmazonWarriors)

The strength, fearlessness and physical prowess of the Jamaica team is captured in its name, Jamaica Tallawahs™. Tallawah is a Jamaican term for something or someone who is sturdy, strong and not to be underestimated. A crocodile is used in the logo because it is native to Jamaica, and plays an important part in the country’s history and folklore. It is also featured in the Jamaica coat of arms and many of the government’s official seals. (Twitter: @JAMTallawahs; Facebook: www.facebook.com/JamaicaTallawahs)

St Lucia is one of four islands in the Caribbean known for its zouk music, and so a fitting name for the Lucian team is the St Lucia Zouks™. The logo is a colourful mixture of blues and yellows with a flame symbol that is derived from the national coat of arms, representing a desire to win. The two characters in the logo are based on a combination of a classic zouk dance pose, a cricketer hitting a six and a backwards dive catch, all depicting the team spirit that franchise players Darren Sammy and Herschelle Gibbs will surely bring to the CPL. (Twitter: @SLUZouks; Facebook: www.facebook.com/StLuciaZouks)

The sixth and final franchise team is the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel™, the name itself suggesting a force to be reckoned with if franchise player Dwayne Bravo has anything to do with it. The national flag and its dominant diagonal strip are key recognisable symbols so it made sense to combine them in a classic sporting icon, and link it to the idea of battle strength on the field of play. (Twitter: @TTRedSteel; Facebook: www.facebook.com/TnTRedSteel)

The inaugural Caribbean Premier League gets underway on 30 July in Barbados when the Barbados Tridents™ take on the St Lucia Zouks™.

Note: CPL Ltd is the owner of these marks in all the countries holding all exclusive rights and has granted licenses to the teams to use the marks. Merchandise and licensing will be available with these markets throughout the Caribbean and Worldwide.

Caribbean Premier League: Season preview

The CPL has announced its teams & players ahead of the inaugural season - we decide who looks strongest

The Caribbean Premier League will be launched this year, in another copy-cat take of the successful Indian Twenty20 franchise - the IPL.

Scheduled as an annual event, the CPL will replace the Caribbean Twenty20 as the premier competition for the game's shortest format in the region.

Last week the six team's entered a draft, picking a total of 15 players to see them through a tournament that will comprise a minimum of seven group matches for each side. At the end of the group stage, the four best ranking team's will play-off in semi-finals and a final to decide the overall winner.

Each side is also required to name two "franchise players" - one home grown and one overseas. The tournament gets under way on the 29th July and runs until 26th August.

Here's a quick look at the team's involved and the star-names who will be making an appearance:

Antigua

Head coach - Sir Viv Richards - one of the most iconic name's in both West Indian and world cricket, the legendary batsmen averaged 50.23 across 121 test matches including a top score of 291. The 61 year-old will ensure he gets the best out of his players.

Local franchise player - Marlon Samuels - On his day an excellent batsmen, he was man of the match in the final of the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, in which West Indies beat Sri Lanka by 36 runs to claim the title. He scored 78 from 56 balls in an innings which included nine boundaries, six of them maximums.

International franchise player - Ricky Ponting - The ex-Australian captain struggled badly in the 2013 IPL as he was dropped from the Mumbai Indians side and had to watch as his teammates went onto clinch the title. However, he looks to have rediscovered some form with Surrey this summer, and will always have it within him to produce.

Watch out for - Kemar Roach - Perhaps the best pace bowler the Windies have produced in the last ten years, he has a consistent bowling average of 27.71 in test cricket, 27.13 in ODI's and 28.82 in first class matches. After starting the ICC Champions Trophy in fine form this month, hopes will be high.

Overall thoughts - Lack strength in depth, particularly in the bowling department where Roach will be expected to shoulder much of the wicket-taking responsibilities. Hopes will hinge on an experienced batting line-up that includes South African Justin Kemp and Australian Steve Smith on top of franchise stars Samuels and Ponting.

Barbados

Head coach - Desmond Haynes - Another legendary veteran of the West Indies' past glories, his 116 test appearances produced 7,487 runs at an average of 42.29. The 57 year-old is currently a director of the West Indies Cricket Board.

Local franchise player - Kieron Pollard - The giant all-rounder has it within him to win a game on his own. However, he very rarely does, and currently has just two half-century's and 16 wickets in 35 T20 international appearances. Barbados will be hoping he can reproduce some of his Mumbai Indians form in the Caribbean this summer.

International franchise player - Shoaib Malik - Another all-rounder who produces on an inconsistent basis, the 31 year-old Pakistani can prove a menacing striker of the ball when on form and can also provide some useful right-arm off-break's.

Watch out for - Dwayne Smith - A ferocious attacking batsmen at the top of the order, he can produce fireworks when on form, as he as in the past for the Mumbai Indians during the IPL.

Overall thoughts - Will be reliant on their big-name's turning up. There's a lot of inconsistency in their team and not a lot of experience, especially in the bowling department - where young Jason Holder will be looked to as the main threat. Shakib Al Hasan could also prove vital in providing some solidity to their batting.

Guyana

Head coach - Roger Harper - Statistically West Indies greatest ever spin bowler, his bowling average of 28.06 is the best among all West Indian spinners with at least 25 test wickets. It will certainly be interesting to see how he teams up with Sunil Narine.

Local franchise player - Sunil Narine - Regarded as one of the best spinners in the shortest format of the game, he has an uncanny ability for keeping things tight, forcing mistakes and picking up wickets - as he did for the Kolkata Knight Riders in their successful 2012 IPL campaign.

International franchise player - Mohammad Hafeez - Something of an underrated player, the 32 year-old Pakistani is always capable of a contribution with bat or ball. His batting average of 24.70 from 43 T20I's is not as good as it might be, but for a part-time spinner his bowling average of 22.14 is impressive.

Watch out for - Martin Guptill - The New Zealander took apart England in the three-match ODI series earlier this month, and the 26 year-old looks ideally suited to the shorter formats of the game. Already has a T20I century and could be very dangerous.

Overall thoughts - With Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons and James Franklin also in their squad they have a strong batting line-up. Plenty of spin options, and a recognised wicket keeper in Danesh Ramdin. Perhaps short a genuine strike bowler.

Jamaica

Head coach - Paul Nixon - The only non-West Indian coach and well-liked veteran of the English county scene, what he lacks in International experience he makes up for in heart and passion for the game.

Local franchise player - Chris Gayle - The man who will bring in the crowds: having hit a record 30-ball century during his unbeaten knock of 175 in this year's IPL, everyone will be hoping to see the big man reproduce on his home ground.

International franchise player - Muttiah Muralitharan - One of the greatest bowler's of all time, the 41 year-old still manages to drag himself out for the big-money tournaments and, more importantly, still manages to produce. He doesn't have 800 test wickets for nothing.

Watch out for - Shaun Marsh - Has often produced in an inexperienced Kings XI line-up during the IPL, another big hitter, the potential for his partnerships with Gayle is frightening.

Overall thoughts - With Jaques Rudolph, Andre Russell and Ravi Rampaul all in the squad they will head into the tournament as early favourites. They have arguably the most balanced side and will have plenty of options in all departments.

Saint Lucia

Head coach - Andy Roberts - An explosive fast bowler at his prime, he twice took seven wickets in an innings of a Test match. Was part of the famous quartet of pace bowlers in the late 1970's - early 1980's that also included Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Colin Croft.

Local franchise player - Darren Sammy - West Indies current Test captain and T20 World Cup winning skipper, he is one of the most underrated players in world cricket - handy with both bat and ball and a good organiser of his fellow players.

International franchise player - Herschelle Gibbs - The scorer of 14 test and 21 ODI centuries, he is still a fantastic player. At the age of 39 he is nearing the end of his career, but could still have a couple of big innings within him.

Watch out for - Tamim Iqbal - An explosive batsmen, he is unlikely to hang around and if he gets going will rival the best strike-rate's in the league. Averages a respectable 37.22 in 28 tests for Bangladesh including a high score of 151.

Overall thoughts - Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Devon Smith will add security to a batting line-up that will also have all-rounders Sammy and Albie Morkel to full back on should Gibbs and Iqbal fail. Unfortunately, Tino Best and Shane Shillingford make up the best of what looks a fairly ordinary bowling line-up.

Trinidad and Tobago

Head coach - Gordon Greenidge - This tournament is not short on legendary West Indian batsmen, and Greenidge certainly qualifies as one of those with a batting average of 44.72 from 108 test matches and 45.03 from 128 ODI's.

Local franchise player - Dwayne Bravo - West Indies current ODI captain, Bravo is an excellent all-rounder who has often performed well for his IPL franchise - the Chennai Super Kings - taking the 2013 Purple Cap for the most wickets of any bowler in the tournament.

International franchise player - Ross Taylor - New Zealand's most consistent player in all format's of the game over the last five years, Taylor's test average of 42.21 is commendable for someone who has been playing in a losing side for much of his career. Has struggled to turn his talents to the shortest format of the game in the past.

Watch out for - Kevin O'Brien - The only British player taking part in the tournament, the Irishman shot to prominence in 2011 when he scored the fastest World Cup century of all time - just 50 deliveries - to help his side from 111/5 to their 328 run target against England.

Overall thoughts - Aaron Finch, Darren Bravo and Fidel Edwards ensure a well balanced side, but perhaps short an extra touch of quality needed to go all the way.

CPL T20
BREAKING NEWS:

The CPL has confirmed that Shaun Marsh will not be available to participate in the 2013 tournament, slated to kick off on 30 July. The reason for his unavailability is due to a recently confirmed Australia A Team tour to South Africa that will clash with the CPL. This news also brings to light the likelihood that two other Australian players, Steve Smith and Aaron Finch, will not be available either.

“It is very unfortunate this has happened, but this is international cricket, we appreciate that schedules are extremely tight and we need to respect the national cricket commitments these players have,” expressed CPL CEO Damien O’Donohoe, “We are working with the franchise teams that will be affected and are seeking appropriate replacements to ensure they will be prepared for a competitive tournament come 30 July.”

BEN ROHRER, AHMED SHEHZAD AND DAVY JACOBS DRAFTED IN FOR LIMACOL CPL

AUSTRALIA TRIO UNABLE TO OBTAIN NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATES

The Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPL) today confirmed Ben Rohrer, Ahmed Shehzad and Davy Jacobs have been drafted in as replacement players for the forthcoming inaugural tournament.

This announcement comes after three Australia players – Steve Smith, Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch – were unable to obtain No Objection Certificates from Cricket Australia. Smith has been drafted in to Australia’s squad for the Ashes series with England, and Finch and Marsh have been selected for the Australia A tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Australian Rohrer will replace Smith for the Antigua Hawksbills, Pakistani Shehzad steps in for Marsh with the Jamaica Tallawahs, and Jacobs from South Africa comes in for Finch with the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel.

Rohrer is a hard-hitting left-hander who made his Twenty20 International debut for Australia against the West Indies in March and he played for the Delhi Daredevils in the latest edition of the Indian Premier League.

The 32 year-old featured for the Melbourne Renegades in the last Australia’s Big Bash League, and the Renegades were the franchise that had the consultancy services of Antigua Hawksbills coach Sir Vivian Richards, as well as the talent of West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels, the Antigua Hawksbills’ franchise player and captain in this year’s Limacol CPL.

The 32 year-old, originally from Sydney, said he was relishing the chance to be part of the Limacol CPL which gets underway on 30 July.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to play with Antigua in the CPL,” said Rohrer. “It will be great to get the chance to work with Sir Viv again, as well as (with former Australia captain) Ricky Ponting and my Renegades teammate Marlon Samuels.”

Antigua Hawksbills assistant coach Phil DeFreitas said: “Ben has shown himself to be a real talent in the shortest form of the game, and that ability earned him international recognition earlier this year.

“He is well known to both Sir Vivian Richards and Marlon Samuels and impressed them both during the Big Bash League.

“He has the ability to control the innings and also to find the boundary regularly and he offers us a really excellent option with the bat.”

Rohrer made 295 runs in the Big Bash League, the fifth-highest aggregate among the six sides, and his strike-rate was a remarkable 152.09 runs per hundred balls. He has also represented the Sydney Sixers both domestically and in the Champions League T20.

The Limacol CPL will be a perfect opportunity for Ahmed Shehzad to put himself firmly back in the minds of the Pakistan selectors after he missed out on selection for the ICC Champions Trophy squad.

Still only 21, the right-handed batsman played for his country as recently as March in a T20I against South Africa. He has played 19 ODIs and 11 T20Is and was part of the Pakistan squads for both the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011 and the ICC World Twenty20 in 2009, with Pakistan winning the latter event.

He has two ODI hundreds, one of which was against the West Indies in St Lucia in 2011, and he also has two T20 hundreds and a superb strike-rate of 134.23 runs per hundred balls.

Reflecting on the change to the Jamaica Tallawahs squad, coach Paul Nixon said: “Losing Shaun is a shame but we have got a like-for-like replacement with Ahmed Shehzad who is perfect for the team’s balance.

“He has special ability as a top order batsman, Chris (Gayle) knows him well and we believe he will be a match-winner who can really make his mark on the world stage. He is a very gifted and classy player and we feel he is the last piece in our jigsaw.”

Jacobs is another vastly experienced Twenty20 player who was unlucky to miss out on a spot with one of the six franchises in the draft that took place earlier this month.

The 30 year-old, who captains the Warriors in South African domestic cricket, is capable of batting anywhere in the order and is an extremely capable wicketkeeper too.

He led the Warriors to their first-ever trophies in 2010-11 with a limited-overs double, including the domestic Twenty20 title, and has played for both the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and Northamptonshire in English county cricket.

Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel coach Gordon Greenidge said of the change to his squad: “Davy Jacobs is a proven performer in Twenty20 cricket. He will add steel to the Red Steel dressing room and bring a winning mentality to the squad as well as vast experience. The fact he can bat anywhere in the top-order is great as it provides us with real flexibility and I like the balance of our squad.

“We have top-quality internationals like Dwayne Bravo and Ross Taylor, the pace of Fidel Edwards, the exciting hitting power of Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien and two of the best Twenty20 bowlers going around in Kevon Cooper and Samuel Badree. It is a great blend and we cannot wait to get started,” he declared.

The inaugural Limacol Caribbean Premier League starts on 30 July in Barbados and concludes on 24 August in Trinidad.

MISBAH-UL-HAQ COMES IN AS REPLACEMENT FOR LUKE POMERSBACH IN LIMACOL CPL

http://cplt20.com/sites/default/files/styles/news_landing_main_666px/public/field/image/Misbah%20ul-Haq%20%28source%20WestIndiesCricket%29.jpg?itok=eM mNDJGu

“WE ARE EXCITED MISBAH IS JOINING US AND LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH HIM AS WE STRIVE FOR SUCCESS IN THIS INAUGURAL LIMACOL CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE,” SAYS MAYNARD.

Pakistan’s Test and One-Day International (ODI) captain Misbah-ul-Haq will replace Luke Pomersbach of Australia in the St. Lucia Zouks team for the inaugural Limacol Caribbean Premier League (LCPL) T20 Tournament which begins in a matter of days. Pomersbach has been forced to pull out of the tournament on compassionate leave.

Misbah, who has been captaining Pakistan’s ODI side against the West Indies in the Caribbean, will immediately link up with the Zouks squad ahead of the side’s first match – the tournament opener - against the Barbados Tridents at Kensington Oval on Tuesday.

Misbah’s latest Twenty20 action saw him lead the Faisalabad Wolves to victory in Pakistan’s Super Eight T-20 Cup in March and he scored 189 runs at an average of 37.20 during the tournament.

“Although it is unfortunate that Luke Pomersbach will not be joining us, we have a high-quality replacement in Misbah ul-Haq,” said St Lucia Zouks assistant coach Matthew Maynard about the change to the squad. “He brings with him a vast amount of experience of international cricket, something that will only be of benefit to our younger players, and his latest Twenty20 performance speaks for itself. On top of that he has been in excellent form during the recent ODI series against the West Indies so he is completely acclimatised and match-ready and that is an added plus for us and for him.”

Misbah joins a well-balanced squad with experienced West Indies international players like Darren Sammy and Tino Best, as well as exciting young talents like Andre Fletcher, Nelon Pascal and Dalton Polius and high-quality overseas players Herschelle Gibbs, Albie Morkel and Tamim Iqbal.

“We are excited Misbah is joining us and look forward to working with him as we strive for success in this inaugural Limacol Caribbean Premier League,” added Maynard.

Misbah made his international debut in 2001 and since then has played 39 Tests, 125 ODIs and 39 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

In those 39 Tests Misbah has scored 2419 runs at 43.19, including three hundreds and 18 fifties. In ODIs he has a total of 3819 runs at 44.40 with 29 fifties, four of those half-centuries coming in the recently-concluded series against the West Indies, and in T20Is he has 788 runs at 37.52 with a strike-rate of 110.20 runs per hundred balls faced.

In each format of the game his statistics improved after taking over the Pakistan captaincy and he has led his country in 20 Tests, 51 ODIs and eight T20Is.

The inaugural Limacol Caribbean Premier League starts on 30 July in Barbados and concludes on 24 August in Trinidad.

Taking singles is a bit too mainstream for our Tamim.

So we have to telegraph our shots by running half way down the pitch, hoping the bowler has this much "wits" like an elephant hiding behind a lamp post NOT to see my tactics while Mesbah goes on his merry ways scoring 70s and stuff.

Yeah u can play at home and have healthy average's ofcourse you are bound to be NO.1 ODI all-rounder. remove his home and zimbabwe average guy is more than ordinary yet i see him play in hope of a miralce:( just hope he does not have a shocker with the ball, everyone pray to allah

Batting is turning out to be a major worry. If he didnt have so much fame backing him up, he wouldnt be picked in the kiwi series with this kind of form.

why do you think people don't rate him? people do rate him, everywhere he goes people say he's a quality cricketer, they even said it in the match he played a couple of days ago!

although he is doing poorly here t20 has never been a good game for BD players, hopefully he doesn't transfer this form over to international cricket in the ODI and test forms.

How can you drop the No.1 all-rounder in ODI and 5th best T20 bowler and 3rd best T20 all-rounder? Time for ICC to wake-up.

if we play most of our games at home he will remain no.1 all-rounder for years! but if we play most overseas u will know the actual quality of shakib:) his decent but not what the ranking says. and no league will say here walks in a rubbish player even in BPL obrien was made into a superstar by some commentators. its a normal trend to hype players in such leagues.

ok, fair enough you have your opinion, but it's quite obvious that commentators, players, ex-players etc consider shakib to be a very good cricketer and a great talent. so you might not think he's that great but when you say no one rates him, well that's a bit wrong considering people talk about how good they think he is.
