View Full Version : Our domestic cricket

Bangladesh has arguably the worst domestic structure in major cricket nations. There has been a lot of talk about improving the league(s), but nothing has happened. I think BCB needs to have a two-pronged plan. First, implement some small changes that are feasible and can offer immediate improvement. Second, look at some substantial, long-term changes.

Ideas?

Prothom Alo has an article about some of the issues.

Our Domestic Cricket will never improve because we rely too much on 16 cricketers from national squad. Its like they are the only Cricketers in the whole country. There is about 120+ cricketer who will be deprived of earning any money from cricket. This is the reason we loose our Rana's because they have no choice but to take chances in "khep" cricket to earn some money.

CCDM should be dissolved. They are just time wasting directors of BCB.

You are right. I don't see what CCDM brings to the table. We need a visionary at the helms of BCB, not these politician types. Saber Bhai is a politician, but he understands cricket. If he remained, I think we would be much better off.

NCL was just a one round competition. Thats not sufficient by any means. Why not home and away-that will mean each team plays 12 matches and in 7 different venues, in 7 different type of conditions. Add a parallel limited over tournament like English country so that the teams play an limited over match right after a first class match. Saves up on traveling and logistics. 12 matches mean our cricketers will be occupied for almost 4-5 months. The balance time we can schedule A Team tours. Basically all the cricketers need to play a lot. Unless we play we wont learn.

Notice how India is always organizing India Vs India A Vs India B. India Vs Rest Of India. Domestic Champion Vs Rest of India. They are always organizing such matches to test their emerging players.

And no need to have so many competitions. Why a franchise first class cricket and then NCL. Just have one and put full focus on organizing it successfully.

Try explaining your jargon to poor cricketers of Bangladesh.

I was going to raise this issue, but glad to see they already covered it in the article in post # 2.

To me, this is the mother of all problems.

All these meeting seatings are just eye wash. BCB is basically a collective form of the club officials.
FC standard or decentralization of cricket isnt in their interest.

Decentralization just doesnt mean spreading the game all across the country, it also means you are having representatives from these various districts and divisionals cricket councils who would be an integral part of planning and development and overall governance of BCB. That means these Dhaka-based millionaire club owners are having to share their power, authority and influence with the no-name chira-genji cricket councellor from a Mofosshol shohor.

BCB is a multi million dollar business. The less people you have, the bigger your share of the pie becomes. Check this various committees of BCB, you'd find a number of individuals with more than 2 or even 3 positions, with almost 95% are Dhaka based.
http://tigercricket.com/committee.html

Nothing wrong in those men in all those places, its just that their primary and original role of serving the best interest of the country gets buried under their their dual-triple-quadruple roles.

BCB basically allows these club officials to make money for their clubs. Unless this changes, our cricket will continue to limp.

The 4-day cricket league involving zones was a good idea, but that competition has to be longer. The aspiring cricketers need to play more. There should be at least a couple of national leagues. Dhaka-based competition needs to be de-emphasized.

Import some decent overseas players. Even better get pace bowlers from other countries so that the pacers in the respective clubs can learn more and also the batsmen will be more vigilant. Thats only if BCB/clubs are willing to give large pay cheques.

The more i think about it the more i think NCL is a huge joke. Players start training about 3 weeks before the start of the season. That is just blasphemy. No one seens to be taking the comp seriously. Compared to the Sheffield Shield, players are training throughout the whole off season either training hard in the gym or in the nets fine tuning techniques and working with batting coaches. Work ethics in Bangladesh need to change.

There is no pride, no sense of competition in NCL. Its like a bunch of guys get together and just play for 4 days. This is why BCB wanted to turn it into a franchise format, inject more money, develop team spirit, make the tournament more competitive like BPL.

We are not playing Damal Summer cricket anymore. DPL can be converted to a summer cricket. It will be a 2 day 100 over match. I am sure this type of tourney will help us to grow cricketer a lot.

Fully agree. Importing some overseas players (2-3 max per team) is a great idea!
