His last 4 was uppish. It could have easily gone to the square leg fielder.

yep that is how i see the game and i see success in the cautious approach by watching people like Dravid, Chanderpaul play the game or even Anderson in the last innings. Anderson was like 5 runs out of 39 balls at the start of his innings and he is supposed to be a stroke maker. I believe the longer you bat you will see the ball better and will have a higher chance of executing your shots and so if you eliminate risks early in your innings you can give yourself a better chance of building a score. Good batsman can play a range of shots but they decide to play straight and in the V early in their innings.

Must be GREAT to be you, then. I wonder what kind of psyche results in such cognitive dissonance! This was my original response to your asinine post. The response clarified what "playing a ball according to its merit" means, not according to me, but what it actually means for a game with normative concepts. Here it is again, but I'm sure you're itching to have the last, pointless word in a sad and juvenile attempt to redefine those norms.

I'm outta here. Whining, clueless posters like you make BC deeply annoying cricket forum nowadays.

Good batsmen do not take it "slow" or "fast" during tests. They try to play each ball according to its merit without premeditation, and execute high percentage shots while rotating the strike. The high percentage shots range from a good leave to a solid block to a nudge to a drive. That way they don't get bogged down.

The RR is less in tests because unlike the shorter formats, there are no restrictions tilting the game in the batsmen's favor, and that -- not some poorly formulated, archaic, ignorant and sissy idea -- is the reason why very few batters score quickly in tests.

What is with you getting angry and upset and whining about leaving the forum everytime? At the end of the day i have an opinion and you have yours. You don't need to subscribe to my theory of Test cricket... i watch and love the game the way i see it and i express it here in the forum. We have a different view point. I don't need your approval stamp on my theories and I am certainly not gonna bow down and beg for your forgiveness because you don't agree. Jeez... just ignore my comments and follow the game

Yes, 150 odd lead going into the 5th day with five or four wickets in hand would be interesting....some fireworks in the morning and then ....

if you have a 150 lead today with 5 wickets in hand then out of those wickets will remain the likes of Gazi!!..so i'd imagine BD would have a good chance of reaching lunch around 220 ahead!!..and on a last day pitch you couldn't wish for better conditions for your spinners. NZ would be in two minds!!..they know they can't afford to lose this and that fear may force them to go into defence mode from the outset.

So, what should be winnable lead?

400 - 155 = 245 in 2 sessions to bowl

Rabz on fb:
"Everything remaining on our favour Inshallah (wicket and weather), if we can bat the rest 47 overs at around 3.5 rpo, we would make another 165 (+) 130 atm = 295 (-) 155 = 140 runs lead by the end of the day. Tomorrow first session, add another 100 runs in 30 overs. Thats 240 lead and then give ourselves 2 sessions to bowl them out :)

Perfect plan !!"

I am happy with the current effort but I don't know if it's actually the right one. We need to be scoring a bit more faster because we have a tendency to collapse. And if that happens, NZ can win it, if the target is low. Anyhow, let's see how these guys bat for the next few overs..

Good to see a West Indian cricket supporter. I used to be a big fan of the team in the 90s.. I sincerely hope cricket is revived at that part of the world. The current team lacks the skill and talent of the Caribbean team of the 80s.. Joel Garner, Malcom Marshall, Michael Holding to Sobers and Lara.

The current WI team does not hold the same kind of challenge for Bangladesh let alone South Africa or England.WindiesFan, is there any effort there to bring young people to cricket? Heard that nowadays most teenagers are just interested in playing basketball in America..

Satisfying moments of cricket on BC? There have been quite a few recently. Shakib taking a 5-fer in this Test, Mominul scoring 181 and Gazi's performance in the last Test, Robiul tearing into the Zimbabweans before that, Mushy and Ash's mammoth batting performances in SL, etc. etc.

Tamim ideally should have scored a little faster if we want to force a result. But then again, I'd rather take a 0-0 draw and then go for a win and end up losing 0-1. Ranking points on the table matter at the end of the day, and difference between a loss and a draw is a whopping 6 points.
