Never thought I might see a post like ^^^ from ATMR!!!

It would be a tough one but possible, given the openers play sensibly along with the middle orders batters. And Razzak has to play his career best...

Gazi is a born performer, RBX will do better at SBNS, Robiul will be ok too as he is in much better shape (recovering from injury), so Razzak is the last one to perform if he wants to be a test bowler!

My eyes are on only ONE tiger though!!

Al-Amin for Rubel is the only change I want.

Naeem should have been in the starting XI in the last Test but now that Marshall has been given a chance he deserves a fair run at #3. Same goes for Anamul.

We'll most likely see the same XI for the 2nd Test, although Al Amin should get a shot. If Rubel does end up playing then this is a do or die Test for him. If he ends up failing then he's going to have to take a seat on the bench for Tests and have Al-Amin get a run. Rubel's had enough chances and it's time he performs. His place in ODIs is more secure though.

Should Al Amin get a shot because he deserve it or should he get a shot because "I/we want to see him bowl".

I specially don't want him for the sake of watching him bowl. Test is not place for experimenting.

Not going to happen, but I think Al-Amin (http://www.espncricinfo.com/bangladesh-v-new-zealand-2013-14/content/player/511532.html) should play in the 2nd test because he deserves a shot, Rubel got his chances and did not do much, it's fair if he gets dropped in next test. Al-Amin seems ready for the big league. His recent form is pretty good - 18 wkts from 6 games @ DPL playing for the most terrible team in the league. I read few of Al-Amin's recent interview, really impressed about his attitude.

Definitely because he deserves it. His FC average is in the 20s which is great. And most importantly, our pace attack is still very weak. We should see if Al-Amin could be the answer in Tests. If he could then Robiul and Al-Amin could form a good attack.

I think riyad will find it hard to make the test XI from here on out, he doesn't want to bat higher up and #3 is the only position still open where he might play, gazi can bat #8 so riyad isn't needed down the order any longer.

Team management dropped him because of his form and took Marshall / Mominul / Razzak over him because of team combination!

Every time Riyad offered to bat up re has refused. Ultimately he is in the Bink of extinction.

From cricinfo: " According to sources, Mahmudullah, currently out
of favour in Test cricket, was asked whether he
would take over the No.3 role. He wasn't too keen,
it was learned. There were also thoughts of
promoting Mominul or sticking in Jahurul Islam, as
Anamul Haque would be opening the innings with
Tamim Iqbal."

yeah it will be tough for him to break into the test team now. they offered him the #3 spot despite his poor test record up the order, so they already gave him an opportunity they didn't need to give him and he turned it down, as long as sohag can make enough runs then i don't see how riyad will get into the test side, shakib, mushy, nasir and mominul are performing to well for him to break into the middle order.

i agree with u, but hey in cricket nothing is granted. couple of bad performance, some good performance by Mahmudullah on one days might turn things around. the best thing about Mahmudullah is that he is a cool headed player, and our team need it. its also good to have a nice back up in-case someones get injured or something...

Shakib and mushy have performed for long enough to be backed through a slump, mushy especially since he's also captain. Nasir maybe, and also mominul but I don't think riyad likes the #4 spot so that pretty much relegates him to nasir's spot. Also naeem has been performing much better than riyad domestically and in his recent test opportunities so I reckon he could if he hasn't already jump riyad in the back-up queue.

If he roars, we will witness Bangla wash 2.0. Nasir needs to be his cool best as well. I am worried about their new bowler Mitchell McClenaghan (http://www.espncricinfo.com/bangladesh-v-new-zealand-2013-14/content/player/319439.html). Left arm speedster with an unbelievable SR rate and average. He hasn't played a single game at subcontinent though. If we can neutralize him....I think we have a great chance.

It is simply asking too much for our good and reliable fast-medium bowlers to roll Bangladesh twice in their conditions; the spinners have to play their part, ideally a leading part.

Interesting that Mark Richardson seems to think their pace bowlers won't take 20 wickets.

According to PA:
Bangladesh is a bit confused about which type wicket they should offer to NZ. Some part of management want turning wicket. But some says turning wicket may backfire us,so they want medium turn sporty wicket. Just now there is grass on the wicket, it will turn and bounce. If management want a medium spinning sporty wicket then they will cut the grass.

This is really bad,we don't have the guts to play NZ spinners. In that case they have a plan to play with 8 batsman. I like the idea, spinning track, drop one pacer and take a batting all rounder.

i really hope we won't be a sissy and prepare a dead track to ensure another dull draw. Our FTP is fairly empty and unless we start causing upsets and beating top sides, it won't change. I want to see a wicket where 20 wickets will be possible to be taken by spinners and life will be hard for pacers. We need a wicket that will play to our bowling strength and not to cover up our batting weaknesses.

Alas!! After all these years of Test cricket if our selectors and management are scared of Sodhi type spinner, then we should stop playing test cricket altogether. BCB must realize this is the best chance we have got to win a Test against a Top 8 Team. And without this win we will firmly place ourselves behind ZIM.

reyme
October 20, 2013, 02:57 AM
I think we are losing unbeliable opportunity by preparing dead track! We need sharp turning spin track and play 3 full time spinners. There is no use for any pacer really. One spin track and 3 spinners excluding Shakib, we can bundle out NZ under 250 each inning, get 20 wickets and win the Test. This reduces the pressure on the batsmen too, also helps batsmen who lack temperament. This type of pitch will be ideal to beat at least WI, ZIM, NZ and even ENG, SA and maybe AUS. At least with later 3 we can draw.

We really need to get rid of Haba type selectors who spreads his defensive mindeded attitudes on and off the field. Maybe that's why we have such a defensive field placement and defensive attitude. Mushy must stay away from Haba...

It is all but confirmed that there will be no respite from the heat when the spirited Tigers lock horns with the Kiwis in the second and final Test, starting from tomorrow, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. But the main interest leading up to the Mirpur Test has surrounded the nature of the wicket. Would it be the same placid surface of the drawn first Test in Chittagong?

Considering the visitors’ documented weakness against the slower bowlers in sub-continent conditions, the home team think-tank would love to see the spinners — their main weapons — get some advantage in order to tame the visitors in the hot and humid conditions. The nature of the wicket in Mirpur will probably not be the same as Chittagong but it was hard to guess whether the spinners will get that advantage, especially as there is always uncertainty over the nature of the black soil. Bangladesh, confident after an impressive show in the port city, expressed the desire for a ‘sporting wicket’ as they want a result from the Mirpur Test.

“We want a result and for that we hope that it will be a sporting wicket unlike the first Test where there was nothing for the bowlers. You know the pace bowlers have a good record in Mirpur and I believe this team is ready to face any challenge because they have got the start in the series. What I can say is the Mirpur pitch will offer some bounce,” said selector and former national skipper Habibul Bashar, who spoke with Sri Lankan curator Gamini Di Silva out in the middle during the Tigers’ practice session yesterday.

The players were not eager to think too much on the pitch and instead wanted to continue their good performance. First-match hero Shohag Gazi, who achieved a unique Test record by hitting a hundred and picking six wickets in an innings along with a hattrick, echoed the sentiment.

“Till now the coach or captain does not know much about the wicket. We haven’t done much work. But no matter what the wicket is, we need to play. Actually this is a new wicket, because there haven’t been any games played here for a long time. I don’t know what will happen,” said Gazi.

There have always been doubts over whether the Bangladesh team get the type of wickets they want at home, so the nature of the Mirpur pitch will remain a mystery until the end of the second Test. Winning a Test match however will depend on Mushfiqur Rahim’s men’s tenacity. Bangladesh have shown a great deal of maturity to draw the first match, regardless of how flat the wicket was till the last day, and they have to show a lot more if they want to win a Test against a top-ranked side.

with mirpur drainage system it can pour down cats and dogs all day long, still the game will start on time tommorow..

It's ain't the same anymore, after relaying the whole ground with new grass mirpur drainage is a lot worse now. In one of the current DPL matches last month an hour rain postponed the whole match and had to be played on the reserve day whereas other matches were completed on the given day. Mirpur's drainage was simply outstanding and was one of the best in the world but our morons in the BCB completely ruined it. They tried to fix something which is not broken only for their personal benefit.

I hope it's some kind of master plan to confuse the NZ team because how can we not know the pitch in Mirpur? NZ team is the touring side so its okay for them to not know or be unsure about how the wicket will behave but for us that is where we play the whole year!

I wish it was a master plan, but the pitches in Mirpur have always been a mystery for everyone and exactly the opposite happens of what is being predicted most of the time. There are 8 pitches in Mirpur and all of them looks pretty much the same but behaves differently and it's hard to identify which one's turning or flat due to the black soil used in these pitches. If anything this is what was needed to be changed by using typical brown soil instead of black soil for making pitches but the geniuses in BCB rather relayed the whole ground with new grass which were absolutely fine and damaged the drainage system.

Pitch and conditions
The Mirpur wicket will be slow, but will offer much to batsmen and spinners. The fast bowlers will struggle, although reverse swing is a possibility given the outfield conditions. There was heavy rain on Sunday morning and forecasts suggest more showers over the next week.
I like this type wicket than hugely turning wickets. But weather forecast is scary.

Mushfiq: Pressure on New Zealand

Why would you say that? Such a pathetic mentality to lower expectation before a match begins by handing down the pressure to the opponent. Why is the pressure on New Zealand who won 1 out of their last 17 tests and that 1 win was against Zimbabwe, the same for Bangladesh. Even then, our win was an away win where for New Zealand, it was a home victory.

You are the damm captain of the home side and after managing a draw, the pressure does not get transferred to the away time who are not much higher in ranking. Pressure is on YOU! Its YOUR side that has been under the microscope!

He means that based on rankings it will be another BanglaWash type humiliation for NZ to go home with a 1-0 loss in the series. Similar to how we've come home from ZIM the past 2 trips. Its a good aggressive verbal salvo from little Mushy. Even McCullum agrees that the pressure is on his side to win this series as they've stated so before the tour began. That is all.

not sure whether taskin is fit or unfit but yeah his body probably can't take the stress that comes with test cricket yet. i wasn't really being serious, my point was that they probably shouldn't have made this a pacers wickets, BD just don't have the pacers atm to match NZ pacers and on the batting front, well NZ batsmen are probably better playing pace than BD batsmen are.

Have a lot of respect for this guy - he was one of the pioneers of Indian fast bowling, which in itself isn't saying much, but he was a quality bowler with good pace (remember watching him go up to 148 kph, some say he'd hit 150). If They can claim credit for Gazi's success :floor:, then why not give them credit for precious drainage system of Mirpur? :D

its a two way street my brother..

Roam is intelligent, not me.
KP bhai you are a very intelligent member in here but this was uncalled for, is it the new cool to bash annanta jolil and blame everything on hasina?, hasina is no saint as is khaleda but she had nothing to do with the drainage system of mirpur

Who appointed Papon? Without PM's approval, no one could be appointed as BCB boss and you know that my friend!

You have to look for the root cause ... :)

Looks like Isam thinks this will be another draw. Ugh.

There were some rain very early in the morning but sun is shinning now.

Have a lot of respect for this guy - he was one of the pioneers of Indian fast bowling, which in itself isn't saying much, but he was a quality bowler with good pace (remember watching him go up to 148 kph, some say he'd hit 150). Not like some of those sissy pie chuckers that India has been producing lately (Ishant, Shami, Stree, Goshami, Ashami, etc).

So why BCB has brought Srinath here? As a per time bowling consultant or anything else? Our pace department is doing rubbish so net a bad idea to brought him.

That's my fear too.

Both Anderson nd Boult had econ rate of <2.2 when rest of the bowlers were going for nearly 4. Not to forget they beat the bat numerous times too.

Addition of Wagner will definitely slow our RR down nd will force our batsman to risk to score
