Waiting for the USA match vs Ghana. It will be followup to the 2010 match (which was a followup to 2006 match)! That was a classic, loved every moment. Looks like we keep playing them every WC, and losing 2-1.

Hope we can win this time around, go USA. Will definitely miss Donovan :(

Tough group for the Stars & Stripes but I believe they'll do better than most think they will. They may not make it to the next round, but they'll compete hard for 90 minutes and bury whatever chances they'll get. I'm eager to see how well Julian Green fills Donovan's shoes.

Ghana are a much stronger side than they were four years ago and won't be easy to beat. But they still have that niggling issue with finishing which may again prevent them from being a true contender in this year's tournament.

GO USA!

That was a heartbreaking loss to Ghana and it would be nice if the USA can avenge that loss. I don't think that'll happen but would be rooting for the Stars & Stripes nonetheless. Ghana are just a couple of accurate finishers away from being genuine Cup contenders and the USA aren't. That said, the USA would again field the fittest, most relentless team in the tournament under a tactically smart Klinsmann who has the players to execute his plan. I see Ghana winning this 2-1.

The Germans will kick off their Cup Runners-Up campaign with an emphatic 2-0 win against the hugely overrated bunch of sulkers and whiners led by the greatest one-dimensional player of our era since David Beckham. The Germans know how lethal a finisher he is and will make him whine, sulk, and dive like there's no tomorrow. Multiethnic and driven by a fine coach, the Germans would again be a treat to watch.

AMERICAN OUTLAWS CHANTS (http://old.theamericanoutlaws.com/events/chants)

http://mickeyspillanes.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/perilous-fight-fans-716x260.jpg

(Written in 1814 or 38 years after the Declaration of Independence)

O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

(Fifth stanza was added after the Civil War or 88 years after the Declaration)

When our land is illumined with liberty's smile,
If a foe from within strikes a blow at her glory,
Down, down with the traitor that tries to defile
The flag of the stars, and the page of her story!
By the millions unchained,
Who their birthright have gained
We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained;
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave,
While the land of the free is the home of the brave.

As a shadhinotar shontan and muktijoddhader chhele raised on ekattorer gono shongeet, this beautiful cinema of words and music won me over at 13.

Atsu is an amazing player. I see a contract with Barcelona soon. Their kind of technically gifted, shifty 2-with player with vision. Very fine young footballer. Possibly Ghana's best since Appiah and Essien. The new generation has arrived and Atsu is the best of the lot.

This is the coming out party for Ghana's next generation. Best in the world at the all of the youth levels, they want to win the World Cup at the highest level too. Extraordinary young players. Technically gifted and confident like Essien, they're also quick, strong and have lungs like horses.

All usa needs to do is draw against Portugal and we will be through. Germany will thrash everyone in this group. Portugal's got themselves in a big hole with goal difference. I can't see them making up that goal difference against U.S. or Ghana. Our big concern going forward will be Jozy's injury. We really don't have anyone like him to play up front.

Germany-Ghana. The match of the day for me. Ghana's young champions versus the New Germany of Low! Sadly old geezers like Gyan and Muntari will trash their chances as usual whilst far more talented finishers warm the bench. Gyan and Muntari: has-beens who are hurting Ghana. The younger guys warming the bench so that these two losers can play are significantly better players. Imagine Shakib on the bench because Sanwar Hossain insists on playing, and Mashrafe hauling drinks because Mohammad Sharif's still breathing. This generation rightly believe they can beat anyone because they have at the youth level. Gyan's loser generation on the other hand don't have that kind of confidence. Pity.

Look how wonderfully poised the Ghanaian defense is even after it has been compromised!

Sohel

Firing within the goalie's range is almost never useful, no matter how heavy your shot is.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 02:40 PM
Ghana usually attacks during the second half after defending through most of the first half. They want to finish as the fresher side.

J. Ayew comes in for KP Boateng. Now please take Gyan or Muntari out before they miss more chances.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:12 PM
A. Ayew scores! This is Ghana gentlemen. They'll win the World Cup in 2018. 1-1!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:13 PM
Germans are shocked. They usually fall apart when surprised like that.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:15 PM
Muntari fires hard right at an opposition player as usual. Then misses the target by a mile ... as usual.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:16 PM
Go Ghana Go!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:18 PM
Some serious ball skills there from Lahm.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:19 PM
Gyan: too slow, both physically and in terms of his presence of mind. RETIRE!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:21 PM
Gyan: gets to a ball finally, but loses the ball as soon as challenged ... as usual.

Now puts one away, thank GOD! 2-1 Ghana! Leave no doubt Black Stars!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:25 PM
Jordan can't finish but what a chance of his own making. That's the quality of Ghana's young champions.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:26 PM
Andre Ayew: a natural leader like his dad Abedi.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:27 PM
Klose and PigFarmer come in to add some experience to the German effort. What a game!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:29 PM
Klose scores the equalizer with that head of his. What an impact player he is!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:32 PM
Come on Black Stars! 15+ minutes!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:33 PM
Lahm draws a great free kick. PigFarmer fires it high.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:35 PM
Badu comes in.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:36 PM
Driven hard but wide ... Muntari-style.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:38 PM
Now the Germans are just clearing balls and turning over possession. But do Ghana have enough time for their third?

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:39 PM
Too clever last touch from the Germans.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:41 PM
Andre goes for goal. Not a problem for Neuer.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:42 PM
Muntari to Gyan. Gyan's ball in too high for Jordan. What defending from 20 on Muller!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:44 PM
Lovely 1-2 between Ozil and Klose.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:45 PM
Jordan: another Gyan in the making! I hope not.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:46 PM
Appiah was a great player. Still remember his technical excellence from 2006 when he captained Ghana.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:48 PM
This great match hangs in the balance as Klose fires wide. Had more time than he thought. Neuer just got away with one. 3 minutes added.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:49 PM
What a wasted 5 on 2 break! Offside!!!

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:51 PM
Muntari's trying to lose this game now. Thank GOD he'll miss the next game.

Sohel
June 21, 2014, 03:52 PM

anyways ghana played superb as well but they getting on my nerves.......gave me the most stress and anxiety this wc this ghana team especially gyan

I am not supporting any team yet as long as US is in the WC (other than occassional underdog support to enjoy a match).

Win tomorrow and inshallah we are through! :)

actually a german win would have been better for usa..then a draw would have had us go through too...given portugal do not destroy ghana and catch up on goal differential.. (unlikely)... so u should have supported germany today for sake of USA.

i need a hugging buddy at tomorrow 6 anyone interested ..come over to my crib...i am not going out, cant enjoy game when there is too much crowd...

Klinsmann is a world champion player and coach, and he has brought visible changes to the USA's approach against stronger opposition. Our guys are more poised in defense but have tactically moved beyond just defending against technically more proficient players. They play to win now. It's no longer about playing "not to lose". I fancy the USA's chances against both Portugal and to a lesser extent, Germany as well. This is a new USA who need not depend on the performance of others to move forward, because they have what it takes to control their own destiny.

Ghana play beautiful soccer and it's too bad only two teams get to qualify from each group. They'd have added a lot of artful excitement during the next round.
