Match ups: Round of 16 - Matches 1 to 4 (my reviews)
1. Brazil vs Chile - No need of preview. We know the cup is already ours. Naymer scores again.
2. Colombia vs Uruguay - Colombia back drops Uruguay. Too strong in all phases.
3. France vs Nigeria - I so wish Nigeria to move on. Yet with the money issue going on at the Nigerian camp... I don't think they they would be able to beat France. All of a sudden France looks like a contender.
4. Germany vs Algeria - Do not take Algeria lightly. They have scored 6 goals in the WC matches. Germans 7 (better competition). Should be a interesting match.

Chile are a very strong and spirited side led by the quality of Sanchez but Brazil have simply too much quality everywhere. The fact that they're the host nation and have handled the pressure with remarkable temperament so far, just adds to their invincibility in this year's tournament.

Colombia under the curiously named Peckerman have played wonderfully positive and direct soccer. Riyad no dance no Cumbia or read no Marquez no more. James Rodriguez is a genuine phenom leading the second most attractive attack in the tournament. Uruguay lack the bite to beat them, pun intended.

The French are back with their wonderful flair and I don't think Nigeria have what it takes to contain the likes of Benzema, Giroud and Pogba. The French defense on the other hand is good enough to contain Odemwingie, Emenike and Musa if they play as the cohesive unit they are.

The Algerians are a strong side with no less than 9 Magrebi gangstahz born in France. They all graduated from the school of hard knocks in the tough neighborhoods of inner city Marseille and Lyon. Unlike Zidane in the past and Benzema now, they've chosen to represent the old country at the senior level and are incredibly spirited. If they make some positive tactical adjustments and execute well, the Germans will be forced to remember 1982, and have a hard time. But show Germany too much respect and hold back while allowing their forwards space, you'll be toast from regular as well as set plays. Germany with their non ethnic German players are an incredible side and fun to watch.

My fantasy scenario:-

1. Quarterfinals: Brazil-Colombia; France-Germany.
2. Semifinal: Brazil-France.
3. Final: Brazil.

By David Ornstein
BBC Sport in Belo Horizonte

Shortly after the World Cup draw was made in December, Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari named the opposition he wished to avoid should his men reach the last 16.

"I hope Chile don't qualify," said Scolari. "I'd rather play any of the others. They're a pain to play against. They're well organised and intelligent. It's better to face a European team."

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari chooses Manchester City's Fernandinho instead of Tottenham's Paulinho as the holding midfielder in his starting XI. Chelsea defender David Luiz has overcome a slight back injury to take his place.

Brazil starting XI: Julio Cesar, Alves, Silva, Luiz, Fernandinho, Marcelo, Hulk, Fred, Neymar, Oscar, Gustavo.

Chile's Cardiff defender Gary Medel starts after recovering from a muscle strain, while Juventus attacking midfielder Arturo Vidal returns to the first XI having been rested for the defeat against Netherlands.

Chile starting XI: Bravo, Mena, Isla, Silva, Sanchez, Vidal, Vargas, Medel, Jara, Aranguiz, Dias.

The only positive Brazil can take out of the match is the fact that they dealt with the pressure, and managed to come out on top. Of course that's what matters the most in the end. But I'm sure they're going to have to make some serious tactical adjustments against the overall flair of Colombia and the exquisite finishing of James Rodriguez.

Julio Cesar and Gustavo were Brazil's best players other than the hard working and relentless Hulk. Hulk made some pacy, penetrating runs and took some good shots on goal but all of them were well within an alert Bravo's range. When he did score, the blind referee disallowed it. None of the 50-50 calls went Brazil's way.

Chile's Sanchez, not Neymar or Oscar was the best offensive player on the field. Oscar was totally ineffective as was Fred. The guys who came in for them didn't fare any better, thanks to Chile's close and steady man-to-man marking and double, even triple teaming of top Brazilian threats. Makes you wonder about the wisdom of keeping Robinho and Kaka out of the Selecao, when guys like Jo and Willian were so effectively contained by the Chileno midfield and defense. With Gustavo suspended for the quarterfinal against Colombia, someone like Kaka would've been the solution. Luiz had a particularly horrible game, almost as bad as the European referee's.

They'll lose to Colombia for sure if they repeat yesterday's performance, but they won't. I remain optimistic because if any team can learn from an experience and make the necessary adjustments to get better, it is Brazil.

^i thought marcelo played really well.
Winning confederation cup has ****ed everything. Dumbass Scolari thought he can repeat that with the same bunch of player. Its really hard to support this brasil team. Jo,fred our main strikers! Hulk really must have did something with scolari in private.I dont know when the last time he played well for brasil, but this guy never looses his spot in XI no matter what let alone out of the squad. The only good replacement brasil has on the bench is bernard yet scolari used him only for 10 min. To sum up,Scolari ****ed up this team. Just imagine we are trailing a game by 1 goal. What substitute scolari will bring on to change the game? A Defensive mid ramires, A mediocore cm willian, one pathietic striker for another or if somehow he remembers he will bring bernard for the last 5 or 6 min. That tells everything.

What's wrong with Neymar's left foot? Did he get hurt? He kept trying to cut into his right to get the shot off his right foot even if it meant going into double or tripple coverage. This is a very bad sign for Brazil. Is Jo really the best threat we have coming off the bench. I couldn't believe he missed that one easy chance and he kept falling over. Zero real threat what so ever.

^Imagine these African teams driving-in good last balls to quality finishers like the one's you've mentioned! Other than Cameroon in the first two games, they've done everything else right throughout this tournament. Algeria's Soudani and Ferghouli penetrated the German defense well, only to serve bad last balls easily handled by Boateng and Mertesacker. Luiz Felipe Scolari: Brazil have 'one hand on the World Cup' (http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28154336)

By Phil McNulty
Chief football writer in Fortaleza Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari says his team have one hand on the World Cup as he rounded angrily on his critics ahead of Friday's quarter-final against Colombia in Fortaleza.

Scolari insisted during a tense news conference that the 2002 World Cup winners are on course to reclaim the trophy on home soil.

"Does Brazil continue to have one hand on the trophy? Yes," he said.

"We are going on to the fifth step and there are seven steps."

Scolari has been criticised by former players, including 1970 World Cup winning captain Carlos Alberto, for his use of sports psychologist Regina Brandao.

Germans are more confident as they have better records against France in World cups.
I personally think it will be very equally fought.

Ami shundor phutboler pujari.

Two very, VERY close contests ahead tonight. I'll be rooting for Brazil and France but like the New Colombia and the New Germany also. Not very emotionally invested now that the USA are out.

I'll probably be more emotionally invested rooting for Los Ticos and the Belgians. Both nations fielding their strongest sides in history. I don't think this is the strongest Argentine side despite having the greatest player of our times pulling rabbits out of his hat. Similarly, the Dutch sides with Cruyff and Van Basten were better than this one IMO, as strong as they are.

Looking forward to a Brazil-Costa Rica final. I'll be rooting for our fellow CONCACAF team but won't mind at all seeing Brazil win this one for their wonderful people and country, and for Barbosa.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head
•This is the 26th meeting between the sides. France have won 11 times, Germany eight and there have been six draws.
•They have met three times before at the World Cup. France won the first encounter 6-3 in the third-place play-off in 1958. The two sides drew 3-3 at the semi-final stage in 1982 before West Germany prevailed 5-4 on penalties. Four years later, West Germany won another semi-final 2-0.

France

•On the last five occasions that France have progressed past the first round at the World Cup, they have gone on to reach the semi-final stage (1958, 1982, 1986, 1998 and 2006).
•Les Bleus are now on 10 goals at this World Cup, equalling their tally from the previous three World Cup campaigns combined (2002, 2006 and 2010).
•All 10 of France's goals during this World Cup have come from inside the penalty area.
•They have lost only one of the 10 games they have ever played in Brazil (W6, D3).

•Germany are unbeaten in their last 15 internationals (W10, D5), the best run of any side still involved at the World Cup.
•They had 16 shots on goal against Algeria, as many as they had in their three group matches combined.
•Manuel Neuer celebrates winning a half century of caps in this game and has lost just three times in his previous 49 appearances.
•Toni Kroos (473) has had more touches than any other player at this World Cup so far. Team-mate Philipp Lahm (437) is the only other player to have more than 400.

Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup with a thigh injury.

Coach Joachim Low has said that seven members of his squad are suffering from flu symptoms but they should all be available for selection.

France coach Didier Deschamps may select Antoine Griezmann in place of Olivier Giroud, meaning Karim Benzema would play as a central striker.

Defender Mamadou Sakho has recovered from injury.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

•Colombia have won just two of their 25 previous games against Brazil and have never defeated them on Brazilian soil.
•Their last victory against the Selecao was a 2-0 win in the group stage of the Copa America in 1991 (staged in Chile).
•It is 11 years since Brazil last beat Colombia. The four most recent meetings all ended in draws. Three of those games finished 0-0.
•The most recent encounter was a 1-1 draw in New York in November 2012. Juan Cuadrado put Colombia ahead before Neymar equalised, but the Brazilian star also hit a penalty over the bar.

Brazil

•They have reached the quarter-finals for the sixth consecutive time. They have lost at this stage in the last two tournaments, with defeat by the Dutch in 2010 their last competitive loss.
•Their only defeat in the last 25 games came against Switzerland last August (W18, D6, L1).
•Brazil are unbeaten in 41 successive home matches, with their last defeat coming against Paraguay in August 2002.
•Their last competitive defeat at home was 3-1 to Peru in the 1975 Copa America semi-final.

Colombia

•Los Cafeteros are unbeaten in their last 11 games (W7, D4) since losing 2-0 in Uruguay last September.
•If they avoid defeat in Fortaleza it will be their longest unbeaten run since a 27-game streak between 1992 and 1994.
•They have won more World Cup matches in Brazil (four) than in their previous 13 tournament games combined.
•James Rodriguez has scored in each of his last six appearances for Colombia.
•He has scored five World Cup goals and assisted two more in 310 minutes on the pitch - which equates to scoring or assisting a goal every 44 minutes.
•Ten of Colombia's last 13 World Cup goals have been scored in the second half of matches.
•Coach Jose Pekerman is unbeaten in nine World Cup matches (W7, D2). However, one of Pekerman's two draws was followed by a penalty shootout defeat by Germany in 2006 in his final match in charge of Argentina.

Brazil star Neymar will be fit despite suffering blows to his thigh and knee against Chile.

Paulinho may replace banned midfielder Luis Gustavo, although coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is also considering switching to a 3-5-2 formation.

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman has reported no injury concerns.

Pekerman boldly fielded two strikers in the last 16 against Uruguay and must decide whether to drop Jackson Martinez in order to field an extra midfielder.

Shkodran Mustafi, another ethnic Albanian making his mark in European soccer. Makes you wonder how easy it would be for Albania, like Turkey, to have a competitive team someday soon. Look at Algeria with its 9 French-born players. Look how good Ghana and CIV are after years of supplying players for various European teams, especially France.

Giroud like Higuain hasn't done justice to his talent in the tournament. His finishing, though not quite the level of Mugdapara Bastuhara Krira Shomiti, has been pi$$ poor. Griezmann is a fine player. Though not as pacy or specialized as Giroud, Griezmann is a good finisher with both head and foot. He also has good ball holding ability and sees good options through traffic. Someone who cannot be easily dispossessed with the capacity to deliver a good last pass can be more of an asset that a out-and-out striker like Giroud, a man who has been successfully contained in this tournament by defenders not nearly as good as Boateng, Lahm or Mertesacker. Benzemar dayitto barlo kintu good tactical move from Didier.
