View Full Version : How to change my pessimistic attitude for the WI tour?

There have been many optimistic fans around here who are busting up with the smell of an upset victory over the West Indies, as well as the hint of a maiden Test victory.

I have been busy over the last few weeks for exams and studies, so I haven't been able to keep in touch with cricket much.

Now that I am finished with studies for this semester, whenever I'm looking at the statistics of the Bangladesh players, their earlier records, the only things that are coming into my mind are pessimistic thoughts.

For example, I don't see the new bloke Monjurul Islam Rana's recent good performance at first glance, rather, I see the poor batting averages in the 20s by our batsman in both Tests and One Day Internationals.

I see the poor strike rate of our top 6 batsman around 50 when their strike rate should have been at least more than 60 (doesn't matter what the batting average is).

I don't see Mohammad Ashraful's coming of age, rather, I see Alok Kapali's continuous failures.

I don't see the new plan of attack by Whatmore with 3 (or more) spinners in the side, rather, I see the expensive bowling figures by our pace bowling trio of Tapash Baisya, Tareq Aziz & Alamgir Kabir.

I don't see Rabeed Imam's (source: Daily Star report of today) confidence among the players, rather, I agree with his opinion on the limitations of the pace-men.

I don't know why this is happening, may be its the crounching heat in Bangladesh that has been affecting me, I'm also not finding any topic to write on the coming West Indies tour.

looks like u've been hanging around with SS too much! lets see if i can offer you something to be optimistic.

% Did Whatmore ever said anything crap? When he says that our team can beat any team in the world on our day, there must have been reasons.

% It is quite sure now that faisal will play few matches. Did u calculated how a inform lefty can change the picture of our whole batting line up?

% I'm hoping that chacha will be left out to give space to faisal. In that case, there is only one big flaw in our team. No strong pace attack. but, considering rana as opener, and going on from there, we have a very good team. In fact only adding masri and a "polished" shahadat can give us the "best team" ever.

% WI team is quite tired of playing such a long series.

% We have nothing to loose, but they do. So, its them who are in pressure.

% We had quite good practice this time including some match practice in CCL.

% I think alok's bad patch is over. and he knows now that if he does not perform in this series, he'll be thrown out of the team. so, he'll try his best.

% When was the last time we had so many informed players? ash, rana, faisal and rajin are a few to name.

cheer up. we are not affraid of loosing. we'll fight "all the way".

fw: I think your concerns are well placed. To be realistic, I don't see much prospect except for we have a higher level of confidence now. The statistical differences between the two teams are enormous. Let's wait & see, I guess.

I don't know about you, but I always used to get pessimistic about everything during exams while I was in school. Always assumed the worst about a given exam. You mentioned you were busy with studies. Maybe thats why??

someoby loged under my name and start putting stuff..:-/
i guess i gota change..but I can't emphasize more that BD is making mistake taking bunch of spinners..we don't need that many spinners when Rafique and Rana is there...so how will faisal play if kapali is there...who will hold our middleorder in ODI or in test...last few matches even in coporate league scores were below 300!!!
for that reason, everybody should have something to worry about :(:-/

Hey guys ..... cheer up ..... I think Bang stands a good chance in this series!!!

I believe that it's the batsmen's performance that will count more than the bowlers ..... if the last series with Eng was anything to go by!!!!

I'm not at all impressed with Eng, but they thrashed us like kids!!!! Bang may very well do the same. Stop being so pessimistic ...... don't let Lara's 400 scare you guys!!!! It was a great innings on a very flat pitch!!!! Bang will not be playing in Antigua so have no fear!!!!!

I hoping for a great series!!!!!

bone, I think the team itself is very optimistic. It's just that we fans don't usually want to hope high lest we get burned again.

It's probably going to be a competitive series. At least one test will go to the final day.

Arnab I know exactly what you mean ..... remember I am a West Indian fan and in the last couple of years my team has been thrashed by all and sundry ....... but I never approach a series pessimistic ..... I'm always saying that we will win!!! I'm saying the same thing in this series as well, but we know that on the day anything can happen!!!

I do believe that it will be a competitive series ..... hopefully (for me) WI will win!!!! I don't know about the Jamaica Test but I'm certainly looing forward to the St. Lucia Test.

Best of luck to Bang!!!!
