WI are batting first. Joseph on 6. That was 10 minutes ago. Curt wilkinson got out for 1. This from the officials at the ground, so it's good.

Anyway I am up to neck with work so if anyone interested can make calls. I spoke to someone called Alfred (who is part of the WICB 11 management). Anyone interested call the Arnos Vale ground no, which is published. Just nominate one person so that we don't bug them. Remember we need favors from them

Finals week is killing me off but hopefully some good news from St Vincent will sustain me for this last push to graduate from college!

Well done to Sujon, although I really hope that he doesn't do so well that they decide to keep him on with the test squad. However well he does in the ODIs, he should go back home at the end of the ODI series.

It is funny to think of it now - the main reason I became a Sujon fan and a visitor of this board was because of a lovely article on him written by Rafiqbhai last July :)

Having played cricket against Guyanese and Trini clubs in Mass, and "limed" with Trinis a lot in college, I know that those two Caribbean nations boast a significant "desi" population (around 50%). Hence the Ramnarines and Dinnaths et al in the Windies sides.

So some of these windies possies might be our distant distant cousins :) I say welcome bruthas. No need for MB battles :)

you became a sujon fan after that article calling for his end? what's wrong with you? anyway I'm glad you came on to the board nevertheless... and as you can see I have been reduced to hoping sujon gets hit by planes, trains and automobiles. But he is a good line and lenght bowler, and this is a slower pitch from what I read so I am a fan of sujon today i guess!

While it 134 a.o. looks great, and Rafiq & Rana's figures (5 wkts, few runs) indicate that the emphasis on spin is working out, I wonder what the pitch is like? Is this like the Sabena park incident where the pitch was a minefield, or a true one?

Guess we'll find out when Bangladesh bats huh?

Navarene
May 12, 2004, 12:33 PM
I can imagine what SS might predict: BD 98/all out ;)

Sham
May 12, 2004, 12:36 PM
the pitch is probably very slow, which will explain Sujon, Rana and Rafiq's bowling performances. If it was a minefield, it would help the quicker bowlers more than the slower ones.

A slow track is very difficult to score runs on. So our batsmen will have to be patient. IF they go out there with a lets-win-this-in-20-overs attitude, we are doomed, of course assuming that I am right about the pitch being slow.

At the end of the day, I don't think we ought to be too worried about how many wickets fall. The important thing is to get a win under their belt. Thats all I care about.

Zobair

Great going by the Tigers :) Amazing bowling effort. But the real test for us would the pace of Lawson and steep bounce of Washington. Let us see. Hopefully Wayne Mataya's coaching will pay dividends :)

# I had heard this WI XI team consisted of 7 national team players...! and this is their performance??

# BD should win with 6-7 wickets in hand.

Gloster wasn't there. I asked the kid who got out and how. He kept saying Hassim just got out. After several vain attempts to pronounce Hossain correctly, I told him to spell it out. Then I asked him if it was Shahriar Hossain. He said yes. I asked who was the bowler, he said I don't know. Guess we'll have to wait till Gloster gets back.

Why 30? Why not 6 or 69? I would like him to score a big one , else i'm happy with a single digit score. This is about time for our batsmen to stop throwing their wickets.

CricHorizon, Be patient please. I can't bug them every other minute asking for scores. John Gloster is with the team in the dressing room now, so I've to ask around the WICB officials, or the ground management. They've been nice so far.

Guys, please do not ask for updates. CB and oracle has been doing a tremendous job bringing in the scores periodically. Yes, we love to get up-to-the-minute updates. But we got to understand the reality.

I'd request you to discuss the progress & various aspect of the game and may be possible outcome instead. You do your part and they will their's.

From WICB

A TALL, gangling fast bowler, standing at six feet, six inches, Washington captured 20 wickets at a decent average of 22 runs apiece in seven first-class matches for the West Indies Development 'B' team in the 2004 Carib Beer Series.

Only 20 years old, the former Jamaica youth team pacer, has been fast-tracked into the West Indies squad by the regional selectors, who named him among the 16 players for the preparatory training camp in Jamaica ahead of the England tour.

His immaculate and probing line and length, complemented by his ability to generate bounce from a high action and straight approach to the wickets, are his greatest assets.

He did not reap big rewards in the Carib Cup with his best performance being three for 23 but in almost every innings he bowled, he got at least two batsmen out but the selectors believe he has the attributes that can be harnessed.

Washington is a graduate of the Shell Cricket Academy.

Think about it...

Our positive stereotypes - warm, whole hearted people, quick to a smile, always ready to extend the welcome mat, die-hard fans for a cause

Our negative steretypes - emotional to a fault, prefer to "addafy" or "lime" over hard word, prone to disorganization.

At this point, the cricket teams are alike as well:
Batting - talent is there but indisciplined and prone to shots w/o footwork.

Bowling - whole hearted and honest, but lacking just that class. Also penetrativeness of attack is somewhat one-dimensional - spin for Bdesh, pace- for Windies.

Even ethnically, brown and black are just a few shades of melanin apart.

My conclusion? Pass the lemonade maan... We mates ... Ahen bhai ek kaap cha khaan, shuk-dukher kotha koi.
