Okay, hope to introduce something that is relatively simple..simple task.

Whenever you see yourself as the only member on the Currently active members section, please copy and paste into this thread...

Very interesting to see. And the frequency at which this occurs

Question: How many of those 'guests' are actually 'bots'?

Two reasons I can think of. You are in Guyana, I'm in NY. During the day when we come on BC, most of the members are happily sleeping in BD. Also, BC doesnt automatically log you in when you come to the site, so the "guests" could just be members who didn't log in.

You do have a good reason why the guests are guests. But we do have a good amount of members in Canada and the UK.

commercial and cultural hub of Guyanese community lol ok. Yeah there are lot of guyanese ppl in Richmond and also there is a massive influx of Bangladeshis there as well..... I still don't understand your dumb joke. Why does he have to be in richmond hill??

Where I live currently 5 business within 1 block area previously run by a guayanese has been replaced by Bangldeshis running it over the last 3 years.... Alcohol store, bar, car repair shop, Roti shob..

So u can call it all perception but I am living it...

if you see any "tropical " bar on hill side or jamaica ave with bad lighting .. chances are high it is run by a guaynese person and if you step into one of them .... if not empty.. on a busy day, you will see a lot of Guyanese uncles just getting drunk with 2 or 3 massively overweight 40+ year old lady... who are getting a lot of attention.

Now having experienced this, should I make a crude joke on Guyanese culture? like is that a part of their culture... getting drunk and hitting on old fat ladies?

Wow 5 businesses within 1 block??? Well that just proves me wrong then. Hey New York, stop calling Richmond Hill Little Guyana because some guy saw 5 businesses taken over by Bangladeshis. Forget the US Census and forget how the Guyanese community feel about it, and listen to some know it all wannabe with his subjective viewpoints.

While we are at it, lets stop calling that area sound of Grand St. Chinatown because some of those stores are actually owned by Koreans. What brilliant logic you have.

There’s no neighborhood in NYC where you will find only one ethnicity, so you swearing that 5 businesses were taken by Bangladeshis mean absolutely nothing. And what joke are you talking about? there was never a joke. I was having a convo with Aklemalp which you have hijacked just to spout your nonsense about how Richmond Hill has Bangladeshis, which is supposed to prove what exactly? You remind me of the desi aunties that have to give their 2 cents on everything, while adding absolutely nothing of value. And how do u think census data is collected ... a local resident seeing a change in its demographic is way ahead of official census data that is to be collected ....

I know it's hard for you to accept your joke was dumb... and equally hard for u to accept I am right....

There is no subjective view point ... don't put words that were not said .. it makes u look desperate ....

5 businesses that were previously run by guynese ppl overtaken by Bangladeshi in a single block is significant .... businesses tells u what type of local demand there is ... which is from the make up of local population ....

When Bangladeshi Muslims are infiltrating ... the bar / alcohol store is running out of business and being replaced by halal stores ..... if u don't understand this basic concept .... there is nothing to talk to u about ...

iDumb, does have a point however,

The racial makeup of the neighborhood was 11.2% (7,078) White, 11.1% (6,960) African American, 1.0% (657) Native American, 27.4% (17,252) Asian, 0.2% (116) Pacific Islander, 6.6% (4,139) from other races, and 6.6% (4,136) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 36.0% (22,644) of the population.[Wiki)

Originally, many European families (Italian, Dutch, British, Irish, Scots, Danish, and German) lived in Richmond Hill.[17][30] In the 1970s, the neighborhood was predominantly Hispanic.[10][17] Today, the south side of Richmond Hill consists mostly of South Asian Americans (Indians and Bangladeshis) and Caribbean Americans (Trinidadians, Guyanese, and Jamaicans), who have steadily emigrated to the United States since the 1970s.[17][40] Richmond Hill also has the largest Sikh population in the city

And the guy from all the way Sydney Australia settles it with his 2010 daily news link.

Couple of decades ago Astoria Queens was a big Bangladeshi immigrant settlement location. Every other Bangladeshi was settling there. Fast forward to now.. there is a massive white migration there... these are changing demographics... Ramnants of those previous Bangladeshis are still there but for a new Bangladeshi immigrant to be in astoria right now, they would have to sell all their GUSTIs land to afford to settle there...

It takes less than a decade to change the complexity of a location.

Census data from 2010 is irrelevant.

You calling me a fat aunty is a delicious piece of irony. I don't have to show the US census, you can look it up yourself. Besides, facts seem to go in one ear and out the other with you. I and Dinraat showed you several articles that call Richmond Hill "Little Guyana." But apparently that's not good enough for you.

So instead why don't you provide some facts that "Bangladeshi muslims are infiltrating." Show me that bars/alcohol stores are running out of business and being replaced by halal stores." Go ahead and show me this is happening. I'm supposed to just accept your BS while you demand I provide you with census data? Last I checked, plently of bars in Richmond Hill and clubs blasting soca music. Why havent those closed to cater to local demand? Try and prove that everything you said isn't just complete nonsensical ramblings. Otherwise shut up cause you sound like a twit. Like I said, desi aunty with her 2 cents.

Well, duh. Nobody is denying immigrant communities don't change. Harlem used to be an Italian neighborhood. Now they have yuppies gentryfing the place. But that doesn't change the fact that it is synonymous with African-American culture. But by your logic, Harlem should be known as a yuppie place and nothing more. Census is not the best indicator but if a place is callled "Little (insert country here)" there is a very good reason for that, and to change that takes a big shift. Maybe in the future, the guyanese community in Richmond Hill will be tiny or not exist at all. But as of now, it is still indisputably Little Guyana. And that's a fact. Apparently calling it that gives you something of an identity crisis. Do you not like living in Little Guyana? Does it make you sad which is why you are getting so riled up? Here's some advice, just move rather than trying to pretend an entire community doesn't exist.

and even had you provided that (i know u wouldn't because i know what kind of argumenter u are... not much of a thinker really)...it wouldn't matter because you don't know how census data work...and how 2010 the last us census data would be irrelevant in a changing demographics as it will lag behind.

Now you are arguing my 5 business post is made up (u should have done that in your initial post) instead of now... because now you sound desperate!!

I dont' care what's richmond hill is called... asking a random guyanese guy "have you visited richmond hill LOL" makes a dumb nonsensical joke... because you can also apply the same for a bangladeshi... he can equally ask you " have you visited richmond hill lol" cuz there are a lot of bangladeshis and mosques in richmond hill.. but it sounds dumb doesn't it??

Aunty says what now? This is rich coming from a guy talking about Tropical bars and hitting on fat ladies. And if you are going to quote me, quote all of it. Including the parts that disprove your BS. And certainly don't edit it. Pathetic!

You can't think of anything to justify your nonsense which is why you pretend that I'm being incoherent when anyone worth a salt can see how bafflingly idiotic your comments are. Rubbing your nose into a conversation, and trying to justify it by talking about some joke you seem to think I made, and then going off the rail with your supposed "anecdotal data" (now that's a laugh, I doubt you actually know what that means). and then avoiding having to respond by sinking even lower with your pathetic comments. You are a sad case and I'm done with you. Goodbye.

Just realized I have never visited Richmond Hill. Is that the area by Queens Mall?

on a different note, I am surprised that Guyanese are the fifth largest ethnic group in NYC (at 130,000+ from Yankees' article). I wonder what is the population of Bangladeshis in NYC? We surely have surpassed that.

2010 census said 50k Bangladeshis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangladeshi_Americans)

but we all know that is not true. Jackson Heights alone has that many people on a typical weekend lol.

what's surprising is 32% poverty rate. I don't think I met any "poor" Bangladeshi in NYC. Just hiding income for tax purposes and food stamps.

Yesterday watched a documentary on BBC showing how Bangladeshis are flooding into Italy. Some of the stories were sad, like fake promises made, taking money from people's relatives by faking video that they have been kidnapped and they need to pay ransom money. Apart from UK and US, which other countries have lots of Bangladeshi? Not sure if we have a thread on that.

had a friend visiting Italy and said a lot of the street vendors in venice/naples are Bangladeshi (and most of them are illegals).

Middle East and South Asia (Malaysia/Singapore) has the biggest Bangladeshi diaspora. But as they are "temporary" workers, they don't have much cultural impact. So for western countries, after UK/USA -- Australia/Canada has the most # of Bangladeshis. Recently people are now exploring Germany (relaxed immigration for higher education) and few other Scandinavian countries.

you can't go by outdated census data specially when it comes to Bangladeshis. Numbers Roman bhai guesstimated is surprisingly very accurate it seems.; Look at the number in your link in the upper right corner with citation.... it is listed as half a million Bangladeshis....

even 2010 census data is dead wrong (obviously they are not counting the illegals, also the methodology needs to be reviewed for more accurate critique)

The area near queens mall is not richmond hill... it's more Elmhurst/Rego park, I grew up there... it's mostly overtaken by chinese population now... when I was there it was significantly dominated by hispanics and Bangaldeshis such such myself were coming in... but now it's overwhelmingly getting chinese...

RIchmond hill is more in southern jamaica area and you probably didn't ever go there it's because you didn't need to.... There isn't any "hub" that's going on there... and it hasn't been a safer part of queens but it is changing now.... houses are still somewhat affordable there.. once it goes full scale Bangladeshi - that will no longer be the case :p Give it 1 more decade.

Invasion of Banglaeshis are driving out lot of these previously dominated group...

There seems to be a lot of Bangladeshis living illegally in most countries (those mentioned in the post) I think the crackdown and the rapid focus on immigration around the world will mean a lot of them has to return to BD.

One of my cousin works in middle east, he say's that the people there consider Bangladeshis as Miskin (Poor people) and show immense disrespect. Apart from middle east, where most are "temporary" workers as pointed out, I can't see how those illegal people will survive in the long term in EU countries, sooner they will be haunted down and sent home. The focus on immigration is HUGE! compared to any other times before.

The focus on immigration is HUGE! compared to any other times before.

worker abuses in middle east is nothing new. the racism is well known.

illegal immigration wont impact much Bangladeshis in the west. trust me, no Bdeshi will leave US/Canada. They will find a way to become 'legal'. In fact 80-90s had the most number of illegals and that number has decreased now.

but Bangladeshis will always find another way to go to other countries for work. If middle east doesn't work, they will go to north Africa like Libya/morocco and then to eurpoe (Italy/france). Or go east to countries likes Korea. Some also went to South American countries like Brazil. These tarzan visas will survive for a long time.

you can't go by outdated census data specially when it comes to Bangladeshis.

Invasion of Banglaeshis are driving out lot of these previously dominated group...

yeah had no reason to ever go to Richmond Hill. But heard Woodhaven/Ozone Park is full on Bangladeshis. To be honest, which area isn't. That 50k number in 2010 census seemed way off to me as well.

Not to sure about "They will find a way to become 'legal'. The problem as said by some EU countries "being Muslim" will soon disqualify many of them from entering Europe, secondly the crackdown of Immigrants seems to be at all time high, mainly in EU countries. I agree, most of them will/can end up in Africa, but it will be very difficult in Europe. 80s and 90s were easy times, now things have changed.

I think most will be forced to leave. They won't have any choice. We all know, if they did, most will end up staying.

People moving from one country to another will be made difficult. Who knows what kind of technology is used in the future to stop immigrants from entering a country illegally? its hard to imagine what and how far technology will advance in few years time, and how it will take over many important roles of humans. Maybe a different topic.. but damn even the thought of it is scary.

there are 2 types of immigration -- skilled and not skilled.

the skilled workers and the seekers of higher education will always be able to move. a lot of engineering students from BD are moving to Germany and other Scandinavian countries for grad school or PhD programs. A lot of them are going to Aus/Canada as well. Some to US. I personally have many friends or families who migrated relatively easily even in this hostile climate. This will continue and I don't think being "muslim" will put a stop on that.

the unskilled workers will always struggle in the western and EU countries. USA/UK were good for those workers in the past decades (e.g. DV lottery for USA) but the strict immigration policy will make it very difficult. that's why you see these workers moving to Italy/Korea/Libya. Plus some new exotic places in south America. If all fails, they have the traditional places such as Saudi/Kuwait/Malaysia.

Technology will disrupt the second group of immigrants but will open doors for the first group as western countries will continue to invest heavily on innovation and will need smart and skilled people.

Immigration is not as straightforward. For a huge Bdeshi population, it has varied affects and impacts each groups differently.

Let's give it couple of years to see... this... I wouldn't be too sure and confident about it.

Lets see how more hostile..EU countries become. How religion is used as a tool to achieve many good or evil things.

Time will tell, I'm sure.

well then we "muslims" only have ourselves to blame. we have to respect the local culture and assimilate into the society. that doesn't mean ignore or leave your own religion/values, but adapt to the local customs and live peacefully. if there continues to be attacks then obviously at one point or another, the home country will need to tighten their policy.

in this respect, the US muslims or immigrants in general have done a better job assimilating than their european counterparts.

instead of just blaming others, it is better to look at ourselves and see what is going on.

Spot on. But the problem is bigger than we think it is. I will give you an example, when our parents came to UK there main focus was how to send money back home. They fought against their own family here in UK just to send money back home to their brothers, sisters, relatives etc. In doing so majority of the parents, especially dads forget about their children's education (what are they doing? Where are they going? Who are they hanging around with?), lot of them are now drug addicts. Tell me what will those drug addicts know about Islam? some of them are now turning to Islam after a life of enjoyment, which is a good thing. BUT not all of them are able to hack it..some of them become extreme... (many different factors here also).. the problem is deep.. and I don't see it being sorted very soon.. the media is now representing Islam by focusing on those drug addicts and gangsters, which is really sad. I have to say also, in general our Bangladeshi communities have improved, and a lot more youngster are now doing well in education.. but it's probably about 15-20% maximum.. I hope this number increases a lot more IA.. again bring us back to time and waiting.. let's see.
