I haven't found an official Table Tennis (Ping Pong) thread here yet. So, here I go starting the official thread of টেবিল টেনিস on বাংলা নববর্ষ ১৪২৪.

Many of us who had schooling in Bangladesh tried TT in college life or at friend's place. The more you grow up, the less time you can manage to play cricket or soccer and the more you get interested in indoor sports, like TT. Same happened with me. I first played when I was just over 16 and soon got into it. In 2 years, my best friend and I began to beat the hell out of all the college "boro bhai's". :D

Then it got interesting. Other than 2 of us, no one else of our friend circle took it that seriously. It was a new sensation for us and we were crazy about TT gears. Convinced everyone that go abroad to get a good paddle+rubbers and so on. I had to leave BD for Canada soon and that really didn't end my enthusiasm in TT. However, since then I've been on and off. I had the potential to become a competitive player, but ended up being a recreational player although I won few small tournaments both in BAN and CAN. I'm a 1500 rated (USATT or TTCAN) player.

Here you can share your love for TT. If you still play, you can share your equipment and game style. I will share mine:

I'm a mid-distance attacking player who likes to spin/loop/push block. I've played with all kinds of rubbers (Sriver, MarkV, Catapult, Bryce, Magna, Rakza, H2, H3, T05, T64, T80, Target etc.). I proudly own the following blades apart from 8-10 other regular ones:

1) Sardius Carbon Off++
2) Schlager Carbon Off++
3) Timo Boll ALC Off+
4) Sanwei Pro V5 Off-

All-time fav player: Wang Liqin (CHN)

I loved tt when I was in high school. Played doubles competitively...absolute creamed the teachers' team in the semifinal, but lost to a previous champion team In the final....

Every fortnight Friday, we would assembled in the gymnasium. ..last hour of the school day....

Those were the days....sweet

Was school's doubles champion.

Used to play in uni as well, but no competitions there.

Anyone used Chinese grip?

One of my favourite sports. Did a two years sports studies course during secondary school.
Table tennis was one of four sports to be assessed and graded, did pretty well on it.

The other sports were Volleyball, Athletics & Football.

Unfortunately the last time I played TT was 3-4 years ago, love playing it though.
I love smashing a smash, that's one of the complements I received from the TT teacher.
I was the best in class at smashing a smash, doesn't matter how fast or what kind of spins on it.

By any chance, did you study at NSU in Dhaka as your name suggests so? Although I never studied there, I took a non-tech course @NSU during one summer break mainly to play TT there. Eventually, I participated at National on behalf of NSU team.

My current doubles partner is Chinese with a pen-hold grip.

played all through the school life. I am quite good :D

I also recently bought a tournament size table for my house for $400. And a trainer machine. Also play at work every day during lunch and slow hours.

my backhand is kinda weak. trying to work on the backhand smash.

All the posters so far seem pretty good at TT. Kinda surprising.
Yes, I also play. Started in Class 7 and played hours of TT next 3 years.
Then did not play the game for many many years. Just one game here & there.
Started again last year with one of my school friend. He is good.
When he left the town started playing at work with co-workers. They all just learning the game so not much contest so far. Still happy that I can atleast play once in a while.

You'all chest thumping self proclaimed champions of Table tennis: first win against Nasif, they come to me. Warning: If you don't have any hardware to show for it, then don't even try. We are all battle tested. Both Home and abroad.

Indeed. However, it requires the quickest reaction time of all sports human play. :D

We had a table in our building's basement where we stayed. It was awesome practicing, and of course I became good at it.

Sadly these days, I don't get the time to play it anymore. But I can probably beat everyone in this thread with 5 or 10 warm up matches. :) :) :) Just to get the old muscle memory going again, you know? I can cover a lot of ground, and I manufacture angles to hit unplayable shots.

One thing I never acquired though was a strong back hand. I can defend fine with the back hand, but I cannot smash with the back hand.

If it takes you 5 or 10 warm up matches then :floor: ...come at me bro.

^ Hahaha. Well, it's sad man. Because I completely went cold turkey on ping pong. I might actually need more than 10 warm up matches to get match fit.

But you said you're a basement player. :D:D:D

You can choose which hand (left or right) I will use to beat you.
