View Full Version : Road to World Cup 2019

June 15, 2017, 01:14 PM
Ok so let this loss sink in for a moment. Whats gone is gone. Let us look forward to the future. I am making this thread so that we can keep track what has happened since the CT 2017 and how much we improved going towards WC 2019 which is our goal now. I don't mind sacrificing few bilateral series in hope of building a solid team for the WC and experimenting with few keeping the core same.

So who are our core players? Lets be realistic please.

1. Tamim
2. Shakib
3. Mushfiq
4. Mahmudullah
5. Mashrafe

I am keeping Mashrafe in the mix because bar injury its pretty much certain that he will play the WC. You may have different opinion on Mahmudullah but lets face it. He is still one of the best bats we got. So we have 5 players as of now to build around.

Who are the fringe ones who may or may not make it?

1. Soumya
2. Shabbir
3. Mosaddek
4. Taskin
5. Fizz
6. Rubel
7. Mehedi

I am keeping Fizz in the fringe because his performance is below par as of now. He has to work his way up to be certain in next two years. Others have to improve massively.

Who are the others in contention?

1. Nasir
2. Imrul
3. Nazmul
4. Mominul
5. Saifuddin
6. Shafiul
7. Al Amin
8. Nurul
9. Liton
10. Anamul

I am just randomly throwing out names now who can work up their way and have a genuine case. Out of them I believe Saifuddin and Nazmul will go up to 2nd tier soon. Keep throwing out names with good reasons.

So what are your thoughts?

I think nasir will be back in the ODI team. I dont think miraz bowls well in ODI

Mortaza will be retired by then, needs to be replaced by a pacer who can bat.

I want to see ziaur rahman back, if he performs in domestic

June 15, 2017, 01:44 PM
First we need to solve the number 3 problem. Look at all the teams. Kohli, Root, Williamson, Smith, Babar, Mendis. These guys play at number 3. Who we have got? Its clear that Shabbir is not number 3 material. Its the most important position in the batting line up. I believe we should really groom someone for the spot and give him a long run.

June 15, 2017, 02:13 PM
Play anamul liton or shanto at 3. Its time you put proper top order batsman at no. 3

Imrul Sabbir won't cut it

Roman bhai the 2019 WC will be 10 team in the same group with each playing 9 games. the top 4 will play the semi.

we'll probably be out in the group stages. the format demands 4-5 wins against top teams. one or two wins here and there wont take us to the semi

June 15, 2017, 04:43 PM
We will be lucky to get to semis. We need a few reliable world class batsman and a good bowling attack. Our bowling has gone down the drain lately with Walsh

I know about the world cup structure bro. And I believe in 2 years we will become a formidable side In sha Allah. With Tamim, Riyad Mushy having enough experience under their belts, we can become a tough opponent to beat.

We just need to find a pace bowling alrounder and a genuine fast bowler. Future looks bright

June 15, 2017, 05:03 PM
Need changes. Get Kumar Sangakarra or Mahela Jayawardena in the team, as batting coach. Get rid of Samawerra and Walsh thanks. Need Heath back.

Sarkar, Sabbir, Kayes, Mossa. Not good enough. Players: Nasir, Liton, Anamul, Ziaur Rahman, Abul Hasan, Mehedi Maruf (for t20s if does well then ODI), Abu Hider, Al Amin, Nafeez. These lot need another set chances.

I get the feeling if Abul Hasan, Subasish Roy or Ziaur Rahman all three whom have big heavy shoulders, if they bowled on these bouncy wicket, would've done well.
If you look at their seam positioning it suits these conditions. Akib Javed himself was impressed by Abuls bowling, shows something our geniuses not figured out yet about Abul. Ziaur, also bowls a heavy ball, banging it into the deck, wicket to wicket could've been much more effective than fizz and Rubel. Subasish has nice seam, is a swing with the new ball type of bowler.

BD has to many old ball bowlers atm (Fizz, Rubel, even Taskin not used or groomed well enough for the new ball), need to get Abul Hasan, Shuvasish Roy into the side for the new ball, both will do a better job with the new ball than the 3 older ball bowlers we have atm.

We can't just forget some players based on one or two bad performances on dead, slow low mirpur tracks!! Some players are much better suited to some conditions and some of the names I've mentioned there are the right tools to be used abroad in Eng,Aus,NZ,SA conditions!

June 15, 2017, 05:11 PM
^ Mahela is all set to join our HP squad. Things looking promising already. And if we somehow can manage Sanga and Streak/Vaas, we will be in good hands

June 15, 2017, 05:44 PM
CT was a big tournament for Bangladesh cricket, the semi-final loss was heartbreaking but let's not forget it was a new step for BD cricket, this team, the team so many of us tearing apart are what got the team to the semi-final. With that said what should be the team moving forward?

As far as batting tamim, mushy, riyad and shakib are safe so there are 3 questionable spots of which are soumya, sabbir and mosaddek.

As far as bowling I think aside from giving some more experience to saifuddin, hider rony and maybe even Jubair there isn't much we should change I think taskin, fizz, Rubel and mehedi are the best we have to offer.

Question is do we stick with the CT team that made it to the semis or should changes be made? And if changes are to be made what changes should they be?

June 15, 2017, 05:47 PM
^^ and that is a good sign.

Developing the players on the fringe. Build their technique, critical thinking when they have bat in hand. Play ball on merit, rather than gut.

More A-team tours...look at the way Mosaddek lost his wicket against Bumrah, the short ball cramped him. And Mossaddek is a top class first class batsman.

The system needs an overhaul. I do hope Jayawardene adds his vast experience to good avail.

June 15, 2017, 06:29 PM
What's our tours looking like? We need to play more away games because WC19 is taking place in England again.

June 15, 2017, 06:41 PM
I believe we have a tour in South Africa in September. Don't know what else we have this year.

June 15, 2017, 06:56 PM
I largely agree with you. I feel that number three needs to be settled, whether that is mushy, or a new batsmen such as Liton, it cant be sabbir, who I feel is best suited at six. The batting order needs change, riyad needs to come up at four.

I feel we need to prepare a replacement for mortaza eventually, a pace all rounder who can bat a bit.

The bowlers I feel are as good as we have, they just need a bit of coaching and improve fitness regime.

Wouldn't hurt to groom another lower or bat for the last 10 overs not sure other than sabbir and nasir who there currently is, maybe groom saifuddin or I'm still keeping an eye on afif as he may be ready in a couple of years.

Not sure who else there is for lower order.

Definitely think shanto and liton need to be tested as well as hider and saifuddin.

Either way soumya and sabbir are too talented to be forgotten, coaches need to work hard on them.

Core players are not the problem and have performed well in this tournament. I am worried about our young players and their ever diminishing returns. I know away tours can be tough and i hope that is what it is but still Soumya disappointed me extremely. What was that shot he played so full of nerves? What is he so worried about? it is not like we reached the semis on the back of his performances!

At least Shabbir tried to fight back and had the courage even though it looked amateurish against a Test bowler. What Shabbir needs is a really good batting coach like Siddons. Mosaddek did not impress either but he is still young. I will give him some time. I really liked Shanto's approach last tour. He looks like an innings builder but needs more technical improvements

June 15, 2017, 10:07 PM
we need to start going with this lineup from now on and be patient:

June 15, 2017, 10:25 PM
Come up with a good number 3 batsman technically correct. This is a MUST if we want to success. Plus groom a fast bowling all rounder this can be saifuddin.

Rana Melb
June 15, 2017, 10:26 PM
Plus find an effective wrist spinner.

June 15, 2017, 10:40 PM
I really think the team management needs to consider Anamul, Mominul, Liton, Shahriar Nafees.

Not saying any of the current lot need to be ditched. But we need to keep options.

June 16, 2017, 12:13 AM
There is an Asia Cup before the World cup, we should prepare for that. Oh ya and it going to be in India.

June 16, 2017, 02:12 AM
Planning is to avoid sudden changes in line up in the tournament. If you look at successful teams in past WCs, they had set line up with maybe one or two changes adjusting to conditions or injuries. Not like changing the no 3 spot and all of a sudden and all these. Imrul was told to bat at 3 and its unfair to him as well as sabbir and the whole BD. You cant groom someone for the whole season then change his place. It upsets everything.

Why didnt we stick with 2015 batting order?? This could be perfect in English conditions.

June 16, 2017, 03:41 AM
Mosa/Sabbir need proper batting coach and A team tours. Nasir must replace Mosa.

Shanto should be tried at 3 for a longer time.

Soumya needs batting coach as well desperately.

Gazi needs to be back in the fringes to challenge Miraz.

Tail needs to wag. Need batting coach.

Basically we DEFINITELY need a batting coach!

June 16, 2017, 03:50 AM
Liton out of anyone deserves another chance, shanto of the untested deserves opportunities the most.

June 16, 2017, 04:38 AM
Mashrafe needs to retire with some pride.

June 16, 2017, 07:10 AM
How about Soumya down the order? Sabbir and Soumya down the order for the last 10 overs...

June 20, 2017, 03:47 AM
Management and coaches need to figure out what team they want for the next WC then they need to give that team experience, now is the stage to test out players so in a years time they can for the most part pick the WC team so they have a year together and are settled and a good cohesive unit.

Imo that means giving guys like liton, shanto, saifuddin, mehedi and hider exposure as well as giving Sabbir, Soumya, mosaddek more experience. And if nasir is in the plans then they need to give him matches.

It won't happen but if we could play one of the weaker teams I'd love to see a line up like this:

Could even give nasir a few matches either at 3 or down the order.

Testing out players might mean resting some of the experienced ones like tamim/mushy/riyad/mash/shakib, obviously not all at once.

June 20, 2017, 08:35 AM
Where is abu haider lost? He is no where to be found now. What a farce.

June 20, 2017, 05:48 PM
Where is abu haider lost? He is no where to be found now. What a farce.

Had a really good DPL, needs to get some match experience over the next couple of years.

June 21, 2017, 05:23 AM
One more thing. We can't go into the tournament with Mosaddek. Mosaddek is woeful against pace. He cant play pace for life and his technique is really poor.

He shuffles back quite a lot. And his leg side play is really poor. If liton is poor on off then Mosaddek is poor towards the leg

Has Mehedi Maruf and Shariar Nafees been mentioned yet?

Also, the 4 pacers thing may not work out for us. Life would be much easier if we could find a massive turner of the ball.

June 21, 2017, 09:55 AM
Gola shukay felsi bolte bolte.

Anyway, I've seen saying it for a long time, especially during T20 matches with SL that Mehedi Maruf should be introduced at once into T20i. If he does well in T20, he can also be tried for ODI's.

Shariar Nafees can also be called back for ODI/Tests.

October 22, 2017, 08:35 AM
Where do we stand now? Either we need to stick with current crop or introduce new. We can not introduce new guys just before world cup and expect them to do well out of blue moon. My opinion is stick with the guys those are playing till wc 2019 and then take it from there. But Imrul Kayes needs to be dropped.

Looking at the average of 63, I think Mash will be the wrong person to lead the team here, as he himself admitted he does not enjoy playing outside Bangladesh. We can't relay much on Fizz in England either. Coaches should focus on developing few pacers who can produce conventional seam/swing movements (Rony, Roy, Ebadat).

October 22, 2017, 01:03 PM
Mashrafe alarmed by Bangladesh's one-day woes (http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/21113576/mashrafe-mortaza-alarmed-bangladesh-one-day-woes)"This tour has been alarming for Bangladesh cricket and with more bilateral tours and the World Cup coming up we, as a playing unit, have to look after these things quickly," Mashrafe said. "I think we are not having enough confidence to bat and bowl. We haven't adjusted to the conditions. But it has been happening since the Champions Trophy. We have to improve quickly or the overseas bilateral series in the future will become very difficult.

"Neither the batsmen nor the bowlers took responsibilities. I think we have to find out from the particular players why we are unable to play better. I don't think this can be solved by training a lot in South Africa in the coming days. This is a long-term issue, a long process. We have to be prepared to play on these types of wickets the next time we go on a tour.

October 22, 2017, 01:05 PM
Where do we stand now? Either we need to stick with current crop or introduce new. We can not introduce new guys just before world cup and expect them to do well out of blue moon. My opinion is stick with the guys those are playing till wc 2019 and then take it from there. But Imrul Kayes needs to be dropped.

Opposite is true for in case of Bangladesh.

In 2007 WC we had sudden new faces in previous 1 to 1.5 years to the likes of Tamim, Shakib, Mushfiq etc. Among which Mushfiq's was to the axe of fan popular Masud. And Tamim's inclusion was criticized by many because he was too young.

You saw the results :D

In 2011 WC, Siddons and Co decided to stick with ROCKibul(2007/8 debut) and Xunaid(2008/9 debut) who were out of form. Also Ashraful was yet again picked despite of poor form and not so 'only superstar' in the team flavors which got him saved previously with the arrival of Shakib and Tamim. We didn't had that much new faces.

Almost like your plan, isn't it.

Again you saw the results.

In 2015 WC we again had sudden new faces 'out of the blue' like Soumya, Taskin, Shabbir and all of them debuting less than a year before it.

Agaain..you have seen the outcome.

Now do you want to check out the recent domestic or under age levels talent to again to help us move away our misery by their short time initial outbursts yet again  or not

October 23, 2017, 12:34 AM
Can someone do a quick check of the ICC Laws and tell if its possible to opt out of this world cup?

Forget the rankings, but there are come countries like Windies and Afghanistan that deserve it more than us.

October 23, 2017, 04:02 AM
Here's my opinion.

Get the basics straight. First and foremost, select the right players for the right format. Keeping WC'19 in mind, we need to do the following -

* Find (or re-find) a opening partner for Tamim. Only options for now are Imrul and Shoumya. Among the 2, Imrul at least gets some runs. SS has been barren since 2015. Hence stick with Imrul or find a guy who has capability to replace him.

* No. 3. Big headache. I say we need to make a bold move. We have 2 years to WC'19. Bring in Shanto and groom him in this position by giving him a run till WC. Stick with him and improve him. Shanto is a proven performer, he will not do worse then the legends we have in this position atm.

* Groom Saifuddin as pinch-hitting allrounder. He did fine in the game he debuted. Why wasnt he given the whole series? Keep him in the side and improve his hitting skills. As long as he can bowl in the middle overs and preserve runs, he should be in the starting 11. He should replace Shabbir permanently, who adds absolutely nothing.

* Where the eff is Al Amin Hossain? Replace Taskin with him permanently. He's got the line and length, height and variations. Why isn't he being persisted with? With Rubel being our best death-over bowler, Al Amin can hold the other end well enough.

These should be the compulsory changes. Too early now, but my probable starting 11 in WC'19 would be -

Imrul (or someone proven enough to replace him)
Al Amin

I think this squad has it in it.

Keep in mind the aussies and sri lanka lost 5-0 to this SA team in the recent past. SA play at a whole new level when its not an icc trophy. As i have been saying we do have problems but it is not as bad as it seems like on this tour.
