BCB appoints Sunil Joshi as National Spin Bowling Coach

Former Indian SLA is now our Spin Bowling coach. He is already working with the boys as we speak.

Welcome to Bangladesh. Coach them up and make them a winner.

Why the * would you hire Sunil Joshi ? He was a rubbish bowler and even our Aminuls used to give him a beating!

In case you haven't noticed, it's always the crap players that make the best coaches. They have to have a complete understanding of the game to make up for the lack of talent at the pro level.

whats his coaching resume?

Head coach of 3 Ranji Trophy sides. Spin coach of Oman, spin consultant NCA. Level 3 qualification.

To me the Ranji trophy aspect is important, means he is head coach material, and such guys often bring in a lot more than technical knowledge.

Not sure-seems to have helped Hyderabad promoted. But apparently Kumble was the one who recommended Joshi to BD operations team, who asked him for a recommendation.

so we picked him based on Kumble's recommendation only? you are always biased when it comes to your country and countryman

Well from the onset BCB were clear they wanted someone from the subcontinent. Options are from India, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka.

I cant think of a suitable candidate from Sri Lanka. Mushtaq is working with Pakistan, Saqlain with England-plus too expensive.

Makes sense targeting someone for India-they are very good in producing quality spinners. And Indian coaches imo are doing very well. Better than rest of subcontinent anyway. Akram Khan apparently asked Kumble-probably about a potential candidate from India itself.

The two other options in India are Sriram, Raju. Not sure why the latter was never taken into consideration despite his coaching clinic. Sriram is working with Australian spinners, no reason for him to come. Paul Adams would have been a joke. I think we ve got the most qualified of all the candidates interested in this job.

I think people havent taken lesson from the 'legendary', 'godly', 'omnipotent', 'genius' and what not Walsh. Like gimme a break please.

Its usually the bad or not-so-famous players that make good coach. Cuz they have to overhaul their full understanding of the game and learn from their mistakes. Only one who has faced failures can tell others exactly where and how not to fail.

So lets be optimistic and hope he does a good job.

Joshi might not have a great international career but he is was a legend in Ranji circuit. Toiled in the field for years and years playing for Karnataka. Being an Indian he will be able to gel with BD players very well too. I think its a great addition and he wont be as demanding as Walsh as a coach. Superstar cricketers turned into coaches (like Walsh/Greg Chapel etc) always comes with a baggage and think coaching as a favour. All the big coaches around the world were mediocre cricketers.

Taijul gets turn.

I hope new coach works with him on his line and length.
Needs to be more effective with the turn and flight he gets.

I don't understand why we keep hiring pile of craps one after another. First, there was Wash and now there's Juicy. BCB has the money but they are just tight.

If we wanted an Indian, i think we could have easily hired Eclipse. He is also very good in the art of spin in my opinion.

No noticeable change. Although it might be too early.

Shakib though is bowling his heart out. He must be reading our posts here, and wants to do better than Jadeja/Stokes.

Totally agree. Mohammad Rafiq could have much more effective as a coach than Joshi or anyone else out there. Rafiq knows our pitch, condition and more importantly our players very well.

We have some good resources, but often we fail to take to take advantage of. Salhuddin could have a been a batting consultant.

So.... no one is talking about this (Sunil Joshi) fella... Am I the only one who noticed how animated he was with the spinner on 4th morning of this great test match that we won against mighty Australia? Spinners won us this match... and I dont think its a coincident. Shakib was kind of out of form before this match. Miraz said he cant be amazing every series. Yet they completely turned the match on its head. #Attention_BCB! #Give_Joshi_Fulltime_Position

Within one week of arrival of Spin Coach Joshi, our team beat Australia and with our fantastic spinners! What a beauty! Charm! Charm!

It's mostly because of the pitch. I don't think the coach had any real impact yet.

It's way too early for him to have an impact, and I don't think he had any in this match. Let's see in 3 months time how much Miraz and Taijul improves.

Tbh Taijul and Miraz pretty much same.

Wonder whether Joshi has had an impact on Shakib. Shakib experienced, smart enough to figure out or adapt to any tips/suggestion. Or was it pure hunger to succeed.

No, absolutely not Maruf bhaiya...I was actually being serious.

In our legendary Branhmanbaria, we have an old saying, when someone new arrive in a family (i.e. a new born or new bride), they can either bring good luck or bad luck to the family. In this case, clearly, coach Joshi brought beautiful good luck to the Bangladesh team within a week of his arrival and joining the team. It's a lucky charm thing!

I sincerely think, Coach Joshi will make our cricket and team only better. My very wishes for him and his team.

Taijul improved flight a bit, Shakib didn't really improve, seems slightly more fitter

Joshi has not had the time to improve the players
