Bangladesh clinch historic win
It has been a wonderful Test match and both teams have fought really well. Bangladesh have managed a historic feat. Australia are the best Test team in the world and the Tigers overcame many uncertainities on this fourth day to pick up seven Australian wickets.

Shakib Al Hasan was once again instrumental to Bangladesh's victory. He grabs a fifer in the second innings as well. He has been chosen as the player of the match for his all round performances. What a player!

all our Social media goru gadhas are going after Sachin because he said this was an upset

bhaire Aus team is much stronger than BD in "tests", this will be treated as upset whether you like it or not. If you dont think this was an upset than lets win the 2nd test and prove everyone that this wasn't an upset and we are stronger than the Aussies in favorable conditions. 2 straight test wins will not be treated as upsets anymore. soja hisab

My personal opinion I dont agree with Sachin, I dont think upset in test cricket is possible. its always the better team in that match wins, in odi or test one or two overs or one innings or one spell can win the match. Test cricket neutralize this

Shakib, Tamim create history for Bangladesh in maiden Test triumph over Australia

Bangladesh spun their way to the historic win in the opening Test inside four days, securing the 20-run win midway through the second session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Only one of the Australian wicket fell to a run out in first innings. Bangladesh spinners claimed the rest of all the 19 wickets to help the Tigers go 1-0 up in the two-match series....

The English media went crazy when BD beat Australia in the ODI....Ashraful was idolised by almost all of them.

Aussies have been the worst when ridiculing our cricket. I remeber them showing the BD player wearing a tank suit while facing an Aussie bowler.

Another stunning show of left-arm spin bowling from Shakib Al Hasan, complemented by resolute knocks from Tamim Iqbal, has propelled Bangladesh to a memorable Test triumph over Australia.

Bangladesh secured a 20-run victory midway through the second session of the penultimate day of the opening Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday as the hosts took 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Chasing 265 to win the spin-dominated contest, Australia were all out for 244 in their second innings with Shakib taking 5-85 to follow up his 5-68 from the first innings.

Earlier, Bangladesh flexed their spin muscles to claim five wickets in an eventful morning session.

The tourists were reeling at 199 for 7 at the stroke of lunch, with their rapidly-diminishing hopes resting on Glenn Maxwell, who was batting on 14 with Pat Cummins on two, and Australia still needing 66 runs for an improbable victory.

Overnight batsmen David Warner and skipper Steve Smith were key to their chances of snatching a memorable win in the spin-dominated contest, and the duo raised 130 runs for the third wicket before fortunes fluctuated once more.

Resuming day four on 109-2, Warner batted with calculated aggression, while Smith was content to play second fiddle as they continued the good work they had started on Tuesday evening with some generous assistance from lady luck.

Warner survived a review before the southpaw brought up his 19th Test century, a second in Asia. Then when the opener was on 106, he pulled a Shakib Al Hasan delivery and the ball flew past leg-slip before he could put his hands together.

Smith was on 28 when Tamim Iqbal spilled him at mid-on but Shakib (4-68) was lurking round the corner with his left-arm spin to change the complexion of the match.

Shakib first trapped Warner leg-before for 112 and, four overs later, had Smith caught behind for 37 to pile the pressure back on Australia.

On a turning track where their frontline batsmen have struggled against Bangladesh's three-pronged spin attack, Peter Handscomb, Matthew Wade and Ashton Agar all fell in quick succession prior to lunch.

Bangladesh created history on Wednesday when they registered their first ever Test win over Australia. The hosts won by a narrow margin of 20 runs and now lead the two match series 1-0. Following this incredible victory, Bangladesh left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman expressed his joy on social media as he tweeted, “What a win! Shakib & Tamim bhai were phenomenal! Special thanks to the crowds. BTW, Celebration is going on!” He also posted a video, where all the Bangladesh players are celebrating their win in the dressing room.

Bangladesh displayed a remarkable performance on day four of the first Test, restricting Australia to 244 in the second innings, despite David Warner (http://indianexpress.com/about/david-warner/) and captain Steve Smith (http://indianexpress.com/about/steve-smith/)’s solid 130-run partnership for the fourth wicket. The visitors looked solid till the time Warner and Smith held the innings with maturity, taking Australia’s total to 158 runs before the collapse begun.
Bangladesh’s main man Shakib-Al-Hasan once again showed his importance in the side as he dismantled the Aussies in quick time to ensure Bangla Tigers’ historic win. Shakib also scalped five wickets in the first innings which included crucial dismissals of Matt Renshaw and Glenn Maxwell.

In the second innings, a much required breakthrough was provided by Shakib when he dismissed in-form David Warner for 112, followed by Australia’s captain Steve Smith for 37, creating instant pressure on the visitors.

Bangladesh’s slow left-arm bowler, Taijul Islam also played a crucial role along with Shakib, as he picked up three wickets for 60 runs in his 19.5 overs.

THE definition of schadenfreude is “pleasure derived by someone from another person’s misfortune”. Whether it’s joy at Australia’s demise or elation at Bangladesh’s success — or a combination of the two — much of the cricket world is smiling right now.
Bangladesh made history by defeating the Aussies for the first time in a Test match on Wednesday. In scenes rivalling their famous ODI victory over Ricky Ponting’s troops in England in 2005, the Tigers rolled the visitors in the second innings to secure a 20-run win on Wednesday.
Starting the day at 2/109 chasing 265 for victory, David Warner (112) and Steve Smith (37) looked like they might pilot Australia to an unlikely win, but the home side’s spinners took control to take 8/86 and end the day on a high.
The result once again highlights Australia’s struggles on the subcontinent. Improvements were made during a series loss to India earlier this year but another inept batting display from the middle order against quality spin brought back nightmares of last year’s 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Sri Lanka.
Here’s how everyone reacted to yesterday’s historic occasion.
CRICKET WORLD PRAISES TIGERS
Cricket stars past and present were quick to congratulate Bangladesh on its showing, delighting in one of cricket’s lesser names toppling a powerhouse.

AUSTRALIA HAS A ‘FATAL DUST ALLERGY’

Happy days.
Happy days.Source:Getty Images
The media wasn’t too forgiving on the national team after the shock loss. The Australian’s Chip Le Grand called Steve Smith’s men the “hapless 11” who were “humiliated” in an “inglorious outing” by players earning far inferior salaries.
“Although Warner earned his keep with a brilliant second-innings century, others played like millionaires. Glen Maxwell’s reckless shot to the first ball after lunch, when he exposed all three stumps and lost his off, will haunt him for the rest of the tour,” Le Grand wrote.
His colleague Peter Lalor also laid out the brutal truth.
“Australia can’t win in Asia anymore. We play suboptimal cricket on the subcontinent. Our batsmen have developed an almost fatal dust allergy,” he wrote.
Former Australian quick Brett Geeves said a lack of preparation meant the Aussies were always one step behind in their quest for a series-opening win. After the ugly pay dispute was sorted out Steve Smith and Co. played only a three-day intra-squad match in Darwin before the first Test and their practice match was abandoned because of bad weather.
“What I saw was the lack of preparation for the tour of Bangladesh, and potentially the time constraints of the pay dispute coming through late may have impacted that,” Geeves said on SEN Breakfast.
“I think they had seven or eight days in Darwin, why not go to Dubai again? Why not go and prepare in some way the same as they did for the recent Indian tour, where they played very well.
“While the players certainly deserve to be well paid because there’s more money in the game than ever before, you can’t rest on your laurels and get your cash, and then prepare really, really poorly.
“To spend seven days in Darwin seemed tokenism to me.”
AUSSIES FAIL TO LEARN FROM MISTAKES
No excuses.
No excuses.Source:Getty Images
The blame for the loss has to fall at the feet of Australia’s batsmen. Literally.
The biggest obstacle to any Australian side succeeding on the subcontinent has long been the willow wielders’ inability to play spin, and it was made glaringly obvious once again in Dhaka.
“The Test win to Bangladesh has once again confirmed how much Australia’s batting is dependent on Steve Smith or David Warner,” former Australian captain Ian Chappell told ESPN Cricinfo .
“As soon as they were out the usual collapse (happened) and it was a terrific win for Bangladesh.
“The footwork is a problem, confidence is a problem and ... I don’t think younger problems are taught the correct footwork.”
Steve Smith refused to give any excuses for the result but rued his players’ inability to learn from previous mistakes, saying too many batsmen got out in ways they’ve succumbed before.
“I think we made a few errors, a few guys getting out in ways they’ve got out before and not learning from the mistakes, which was a bit disappointing,” Smith said.
“You’ve got to keep trying to learn and keep trying to get better in these conditions. It’s a difficult place to play when the ball is spinning from ball one of the game but both teams were on the same wicket.
“We just weren’t good enough on this occasion.
“Guys just needed to be able to adapt a little bit better, particularly in the first innings. Second innings runs are so difficult to get in the subcontinent and you’ve really got to make the most of the first innings and we weren’t able to do so.”

BANGLADESH: ‘THEY WILL SHOW US MORE RESPECT’
Shakib Al Hasan celebrates the dismissal of Glenn Maxwell.
Shakib Al Hasan celebrates the dismissal of Glenn Maxwell.Source:AP
Shakib Al Hasan — who confirmed his status as the world’s best all-rounder by scoring 84 in the first innings and taking 10 wickets for the match — admitted after he didn’t believe his side could win entering day four.
His wife eased his concerns, saying he would lead Bangladesh to victory, and she was proved right. Now Shakib hopes this drought-breaking win will ensure the Aussies show the Tigers more respect.
“Australians are very good at it, we are learning from them,” Shakib said when asked about Australia’s sledging. “After this Test match they will show a lot more respect.”
Captain Mushfiqur Rahim was proud of his team’s ability to stand up to an Australian team that has for so long intimidated sides across the globe.
“They had aggression but we also showed that Bangladesh can be an aggressive side. They saw it in our body language, apart from how we did with the bat and ball,” he said.
“If you noticed towards the end of the first session, (Glenn) Maxwell tried to ensure that there were no more overs by taking up five of the six minutes. The Australian team were on the back foot, trying not to play an over.
“I thought it was a huge message. Even they talked to our tailenders, to our junior players. They know that an extra run here is crucial. But we also returned them the favour. They found out that we are no longer the Bangladesh of old, that we now have the players who can now change the course of a match from any position.”

Calling Bangladesh "paupers" is very insensitive in my opinion. And coming from The Australian is very surprising, as its usually a high brow newspaper. I will be complaining for sure.

But Aussie fans are getting their shoes ready.

Oliver
if this Australian team has any sense of dignity, they will forfeit their match payments for this tour. Clearly their only motivation in recent times has been topping up their pay packets. Now that they have achieved this, they have clocked off. Pride in the Baggy Green? Not from this insipid bunch of pretenders.

This was probably the only sensible comment. The article is pretty offensive to begin with, and the commenters even worse.

I dare say we will all become overwhelmed by a sense of schadenfreude as the Aussie fans (and the players when they get on the field) show their ugly side. The irony is, it's us Aussie's disdain for losing that makes us such competitve sportmen - whether it be elite cricket, or parents fighting at a children's football game (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/brawl-erupts-at-junior-football-grand-final-in-hoppers-crossing/news-story/9424aecb635242a7b82bd687ad3e3eb9), Aussies hate to lose!

That's also what has made them so successful in sports. their "Never Give Up" bravado will take them far, their rich sporting history is a pristine example of that. The new Australian team is getting really overpaid, a bunch of no-hopers bar Smith and Warner. This team is going to get drubbed in the upcoming Ashes.

WHY WEREN’T BANGLADESH FAVOURITES?

Going back to Smith’s quote — he’s right, Bangladesh had only ever won nine Tests before this match. The other way of looking at it was that since Australia last played Bangladesh, it had only won two Tests in Asia from 22, losing 15. The only side with a worst win-loss ratio (0.133) in Asia in this time is Zimbabwe. Bangladesh by comparison has won five and lost 24. That’s not a great record, but it’s nearly twice as good as Australia’s in terms of win-loss ratio (0.208).

Jadeja is extremity underrated by non-indians, this guy has turned it around with bowling and I value his bowling more than Ashwin. its a shame that because of Indian batting he cant show his batting as much as shakib can show his. this guy has 3 triple hundreds in domestic and I am sure if he batted in the same position as shakib things might have been different for him in batting wise

Actually he (David Hookes) thought Australia could win the test within a *single* day.

It was David Hookes. I think you are right about one day game. That was my first introduction to the disgusting side of Aussie mentality when it comes to cricket.

Hookes made a prediciton the Test will end on Day One:

Aussies win the toss bat until lunch, then declare and get all 20 Bangladeshi wickets on the first day and end the match

Actually we were all out for 295 in the first innings but it was a pretty good performance against an Australian team of then. Many people genuinely congratulated me as Bangladesh took the game to day 3.

The thing about Aussie cricket fans is they are in denial. They forgot they are fourth ranked test team. They still think they are the best team in the world. Also, Aussies only follow who they play regularly which are Eng, Ind and SA. They are not aware of Bangladesh's recent progress. That's why losing against BD has stung them so much.

Why are they so stuck up with BD players salaries vs AUS salaries? Just cause our players does not earn the same amount does not make them any lesser players.

I read in other articles Australian journalists did same comparison which isn't a problem as they do this in the Premier League when a lower team beats a bigger team.

Also their players made a big deal about salary which everyone was angry about locally as they were going to forfeit the series and not think about national pride.

However calling our players paupers is just disgusting and pathetic. Poor journalism.

It's more a diss on the Aus players than our guys. They just had a pay dispute, they got what they wanted financially and even with the money they make, they just lost to a no. 9 ranked team. I wouldnt take it personally.

We are doing the same now with Fizz. Some are saying he got his fame through endorsements, IPL, etc. so doesnt want to work hard anymore.

Exactly, I read somewhere that their salaries are even more than Indian players, our players get so rich mostly through endorsements, advertisements, IPL and other ventures while Eng and Aus players having contracts worth millions with their boards.
