View Full Version : 3rd ODI: Last Chance

Rain might not allows any game tomorrow. The chance of raining tomorrow is 60% and todays raining chance is 40%, by yahoo weather. also it rained yesterday that did not let a full practice session. result, we may not have any game, let alone a full 50 over game. But, somehow, if it does, that is our last chance to win. Of couse last chance to win an ODI since this is the last ODI, but last chance to have any kind of win. Yeah, I can't think a test win will be possible. But will an ODI win be possible tomorrow? There is a big chance, I've to say. Reason number one, Alok is not playing. A big flaw of the team is removed. Second, lara is not playing either. So, the WI team is of the same strength. But I believe adding faisal instead of alok will boost our batting lineup substantially. Therefore, I see only one HUGE problem with the team right now. the captain. if we could replace him with another spinner (rajjak) we'd have the best team possible out of the squad in WI. Since thats not possible, I just hope that sumon somehow forget that he is the captain and plays his natural game. That will make our last chance a big one. Since we'd fought last two matches and they were close. We can hope for a better fight tomorrow (rain willing).

No way we're going to get rid of our most prolific batsman. Apparently he's doing well as captain he's just failed in the last 2 ODI's. He did well in the practice match and the Zimbabwe ODI's. If he was doing badly enough to get dropped there's no way he'd be replaced by ANOTHER specialist spinner. He'd either be replaced by another specialist batsman (Bidyut) or a specialist pacer (Tareq)

I second that Habibul_fan. The idea of dropping Shumon is crazy. No way. He failed in two matches. That is it ,and he hasn't really faced too many balls to see whether he is in form or not. That statement might sound a bit weird but I believe you can't properly justify a batsmans lack of form if he gets out without facing many balls. Alok's case is different. He has been struggling for a long long time now. If it rains tomorrow resulting in a short match like Sundays, I don't think we will see three spinners. Raj can only come if you drop shujon since the former captain is nothing but a bowler now. Straight swap of bowlers.

c'mon. everyone knows he'll not be dropped. it was just a way to express my frustration about him. and i don't understand why u say 2 odis? how did u forget zim tour? 4 runs in 2 tests, and after getting some runs in 1st odi, 2 more flop on the last two. moreover, the namibia tour, he flopped there as well. no, its not only two odi. no way. it started since he got the captency starting namibia. and will continue..... god knows how long.

but thats ok. we're always use to see 10 players in the team. it used to sujon before. now that he's back in form and proved that he deserved to be in the team, we must have another who is completely useless. i'll take sumon for that.

All I want now is for us to bat first, post 250+. I don't really care wheather we win or lose at this point. I just want the top 5 to make some runs. This is getting ridiculous!

wow! billah, u are asking for something more than winning! we had 4 wins in odi's so far. but we don't have 1 odi where all top five batsmen performed in one game.

win is something easier to ask for.

As a captain, he should show more maturity; thatís why he was given the captaincy job at the first place. It is one the most important part of being captain to show the way for the fellow teammate how to go about the game. In the case of our captain, he is going in the opposite direction. He is like a new kid on the block; doesnít know where to start from. He needs to get his act together or his future doesnít look that bright. Next thing you know he will be public enemy # 1 like chacha was in when he was captain.:(

I think its a debateable statement and shouldn't be termed 'funny' without trying to understand or analyze it.

I think you guys are too hard on our team. WI is very strong in ODI. They almost won the ODI series with England.

What is so crazy about it? Look at his stat. since he handed the captaincy job.

Test + ODI combined: 0,0,4,61,0,2,2,0: this is sad .

0,0,4,__,0,2,2,0: we lost all. and if he would add just around 20s in each of htem, we'd win 4 of them. sorry can't leave him alone.

and we are not harsh on the team. the team is doing great, in fact in some cases beyond our expectation. but sumon did not keep any option open for us but to be harsh on him.

Nobody should get a free ride! As for our captain, he has the most responsibilities than rest of the player, but he is not showing anything.

You guys love to complain all the time, don't you? I thought I was bad, but I have met my match here at Banglacricket.com. Hats off to you lot, you put the big W in "whine".

There was some talk about front page articles and quality vs quantity. Moderators, how about some of that secret code you have been developing, the one that controls whining quantity vs. quality of posts?:)

Good one!
Well, our codes are not long enough to reach these selectors, you know. They are 1CC approved and not made by mikrosoft!

it started since he got the captency starting namibia. and will continue..... god knows how long

It didn't start since Sumon got the captaincy, it started LONG BEFORE he got the captaincy. His average in ODI used to suck anyways, which was 18 point something as a player.

We only need to see if he sucks in Test series or not, because his batting average in Test Cricket as a player is above 30, which no other player of ours can reach. And since his captaincy tenure started, he had played in only 1 test series, in which only 1 full test match was played in Harare, and the other test match in Bulawayo was a washout due to rain, although 1 test innings of play was possible.

Even if Sumon scores 4 ducks in a row in the coming up test series in the West Indies, it wouldn't matter, because after that, he would only play 4 test innings, which do not justify to say whether a player is in form or not.

It is after the 2 home test series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at the end of thsi year that we will know for sure whether he is really out of form or not - AS THE CAPTAIN.

jaihok,
amar kintu mone hoi jeta jouktik sheta niyai kotha bola uchit. i dont think that bashar will be dropped. and so i dont think there is any reason why we should spend time on discussing on weather he should be dropped or not. and it is true that bashar is not good in one day than he is in test matches. but he did good in the practice match. well today he has another chance to get out of that. hopefully he will score some runs today. dannabad.

In reply to rassel

I still can't figure out if you guys are upset with his captaincy or his batting!!!!!

Tell me ...... what's so wrong with the Tigers performance in the field?????? In both ODI's everything ..... bowling, fielding, general team spirit was of quite a high standard!!!! In my opinion at least. I was totally impressed with his use of bowlers, notice many time when he effected a bowling change BD got a wicket!!!! Now in my opinion he has done a great job so far with the team in the field and for me this is where the strengths/weaknesses of a captain are most evident!!!

His batting on the other hand leaves much to be desired!!! His poor choice of shots so far has been his downfall!!

U ppl marked one thing?... tht all the 'sudden-appearing' WI fans in this site disappeared after their humiliation in the first ODI??? :D

yes u r right.. its pretty impressive and no doubt us fans r proude for it too..

its just that the team has been on our nerves for so long with their batting disarrey! we desperately want an end to it..
like all other sides of the match... we now want the Batting to start growing gradually stronger with time... to end all our frustrations!
but i udnerstand that needs much time... and us fans r sometimes bit too hursh on the team!!
but hei.. thats wht 'fans' are, by definition.... rite?? ;)

But that's precisely the confusion when it comes to the captain, you're proud of what he does on the field when his abilities as captain are most required, but his batting is sadly lacking and somehow this is seen as him not leading from the front where the batting is concerned.

My response to this in addition to the previous post would be that each batsman knows the job when he gets out in the middle ..... the captain is not there holding his hand .... it's up to each batsman tp show his maturity and play the game as is required!!! It would be nice if the captain also followed this plan!!!

Now I submit for WI we have the reverse of this problem in Lara brilliant batsman, sh*t captain. He makes decisions on the field that have even the most experienced cricketer guessing, but I am careful to separate Lara the captain from Lara the batsman!!!!!!
