Still can't believe HaBa ignored likes of Anam and Junaid from the A-team!

Anam yes, as he's young, but Junaid has missed the boat.

We need stability in the Test team. Recalling a 30 yo to play for just 3-4 years (if that) is just going to leave a void when that player retires or loses form.

Its also highly unlikely that guys like Nafees, Anam, Junaid have improved their significant technical flaws while out of the national team given we've had no A team tours in the past couple of years, and even when we have, half of them have been against Zimbabwe.

Those players all have limited ceilings, and more to the point are OLD. Anam gets a pass due to his age, but Naeem Islam, Ashraful, Jaharul, Marshall Ayub, Shamsur Rahman, etc have missed the boat, IMO.

We need young players 25 and under who already have the technique and tools to survive as it is. We have a big enough player base to do that.

Guys who are scoring a 1000 runs per year...well the Mosaddeks are already doing that at a far earlier age.

Just my opinion.

Shouldn't this 'age' assessment be done on a case by case basis? Why shouldn't they at least have the chance to prove themselves if they have the requisite fitness, drive and improvement in skills? Many teams strive for a balance of youth and experience.

No wonder we are the worst test side in the world. Our selectors like some of our fans dont get jack **** about this format. The format requires experience! This aint BCS test! People think bringing a 30 year old into the side would derail the stability of the side. 3-4 years? Are you effing kidding me? if a player is performing TODAY, he should be playing TODAY. If a player can serve for 1 year, thats still worth giving him a shot because last time I checked Bangladesh is NOT on a rebuilding phase. They are STILL trying to win odd games. You give 3-4 years to vets, you improve your side in terms of experience and at the same time you give you prospects enough time to prepare. Not doing so, you are wasting experience and you are throwing your new guys under the nuclear strike. Sounds familiar? yea thats Bangladesh cricket for you!

This age mentality is so rubbish,Chris Rogers played for a till he was 38. Are the selectors smoking weed, you can't have 20 year olds, playing test. This format is more real men who have experience, unless you have serious talent you should not be near the test side until you are at least 25-27 and scored heavily in domestics and FC.

Players like SN, Junaid,Tushar are in their prime, and they are being ignored for stupid fan favorites such as Soumya who is a hack in all wickets. Players like Soumya wouldn't even make the A teams in national sides.

If being a 30 year old is considered OLD for you. Then I don't know what to say.

Gowza
October 14, 2017, 06:17 PM
I think once players get to about 32 you do have to be more careful with selections. Part of it depends on domestic quality, back when Australia debuted players in their 30s the domestic quality was such that test cricket wasn't mush more difficult than domestic level in fact some would've said test level was easier. We also had youngsters performing at domestic level ready to take over when someone retired.

Most of the time in most countries that sort of domestic quality does not exist. As you can see these days most teams are constantly replacing players at ODI and test level because the ones coming through don't seem to cut it. Some make it through and have a long career but a lot don't.

Remember most players aren't good enough for international level so it's quite possible to have more failures than successes.

Nasir should be given a long go in the Test or ODI side. Hathu clearly had him blacklisted but Nasir is no worse than Riyad and has more upside.

Gowza
December 22, 2017, 04:38 PM
I’d give liton, shanto, anamul a long go before nasir. Think this is nasirs 6th FC century, granted it’s a big one but the guys I mentioned (maybe a couple more like naeem etc) have played bigger innings much more frequently and the guys I mentioned aside from naeem are all younger and like nasir have multiple bonus skills like keeping or bowling or captaincy ability.

What was disappointing about nasir was in his most recent matches he looked out of depth with the bat at international level.

Eshen
December 22, 2017, 05:57 PM
I think Hathu had good reasons to backlist Nasir. He is more of a home track bully, that too only against sides with low quality pacers. He is definitely no match for Riyad, who has way better techniques. Even Mosaddek does not look as hapless against pacers.

Gowza
December 22, 2017, 06:25 PM
The thing with riyad is that for a long time he’s had the physical skills to be a good international quality batsmen, for riyad it’s the mental side of things.

Nasir is probably stronger mentally but he lacks the physical skills to hang with the big guns at international level.

But then again look at Steve Smith so who knows. But I was a big backer of nasir returning then when I got a look at him against international quality bowling I just thought nup there are other batsmen in the pipeline worth giving opportunities to first. I still think his bowling is useful in shorter formats.

Enam Jr bowled 19 no balls in the Chittagong-Sylhet match, which is prolly a record for a spinner!

Remember what Richard McInnis told us about him. He really experiments a lot with his delivery stride and angle. Probably one of the main reasons he didn't pan out at the international level where even as Ashwin discovered, too much "variation" is no good.

Eshen
December 23, 2017, 01:23 PM
To be honest, happy to see Nasir missing out on the triple. Instead of helping his team by scoring faster and declaring earlier, he focused more on his individual feat, and ruined any chance for Rangpur to win the match.

On the other hand, "selfish" Anamul scored a rapid fire double century and helped his team to win the championship in style!

Eshen

Dhaka Division have been relegated to Tier 2. Next year, both Dhaka teams (Division and Metro), as well as two East Zone teams (Sylhet and Chittagong) will play in Tier 2, while all the four teams from South Zone (Khulna, Barisal) and North Zone (Rangpur, Rajshahi) will play in Tier 1. This is a remarkable shift from past when Dhaka and Chittagong used to dominated national championship!

IMO, automatic relegation/promotion is not totally fair. The bottom team from Tier 1 and the top team from Tier 2 should have a play off to prove who actually is the better team.

^^ Don't think his work ethics should be questioned. He almost batted three days for his triple. He has done well to lead Gazi Group to DPL title this year. But his techniques just won't measure up against quality pacers.

He may get away against Lanka at home. But why to waste a spot knowing we will be touring WI and Aus next? This series should be used to blood-in someone who may do better there.
