First away series win in 9 years. Long overdue

Could have easily been a series whitewash.

Congrats to the Warrior Mashrafe and his team

Congratulations Bangladesh and especially Ryad for playing a crucial innings to lift us to 301. The whole series our seniors played well and we need that to continue till the WC. Tamim's partner is still a question mark. I dont think we need a big innings scorer but someone who can take on the bowlers in the 1st powerplay would be nice. There has got to be one batsman in the mould of 2015 Soumya in the country? The ODI bowling is alright at the moment, we just need to find an opener and a late order hitter to complete the batting positions.

Honestly our top 5 is so strong that we don't need any contribution from the 2nd opener. Bijoy played a terrible innings and we still managed 300.

Even against a really good bowling attack our top order will do at least decent.

Our problems, however are many.

1) We are designed to score/chase 300 as an upper limit because we lack a) an explosive opener and b) a big hitter down the order.

2) On a bowling wicket, if our top 5 fall cheaply, we're screwed.

3) Any lineup we play will feature at least 3 genuine #11s (Rubel, Fizz, Mash are all rank tail enders - compared to say England's tail enders).

4) The lack of a decent wrist spinner means our bowling attack is very one-dimensional.

5) Our bowling is designed to get wickets only via dot ball pressure ie we can't actually bowl unplayable deliveries the way Starc or Rabada can.

6) lack of hard hitting lower order batsman at #7 or 8.

We cant score big runs as a team due to two basic reasons:

We dont know how to work good balls into gaps instead of dots. Even against a poor fielding side like West Indies we played far too many dot balls.

We have only 4 batsman and they are forced to play cautious knowing that the batsman to follow are crap. England can play the way they do because they bat so deep. Their no 6,7,8 are quality players.

A series win after a long time. The last time Bangladesh won a series was against Afghanistan in 2016.

Most importantly we won our first legit series away from home.

Our top 4 (Tamim, Shakib, Mushy, Riyad) are fine. They can find the gaps just fine in the middle overs. The problem is that Tamim starts a bit too slow but he makes up because he's averaging about 60+ since the last world cup. His 80 strike rate is fine for an anchor.

The lack of a solid opening partner at the other end (Soumya, Anamul, Liton) means we are crawling to an average of 35 runs in the first 10 overs. Most other teams are getting between 45 and 55. As long as one of the big 4 bat till the end, we do well in the death, and as I have already stated, we do just fine in the middle. So total we are 10-20 or maybe 30 runs short of a par total. We score 270-275 where other teams will average 290-295.

On really flat wickets, that difference gets exposed. We can score a maximum of 320-325 on a belter of a wicket. But par score will be 350, 375, or maybe even close to 400.

World Cup wickets will be flat. We will have to score 325-330 just to have a 50% chance of winning against the best sides.

The England wickets are ridiculous. I dont know who likes watching these 380-400 totals instead of an even contest between bat and ball. For a partner to Tamim we need a Kaluwitharana type player who can get us off to a flyer allowing tamim to get set and play anchor role. Mehedi Maruf or any other player with a decent footwork is needed as an opener. Right now the best bet is Liton or Soumya. I would like to see them go on the attack and disrupt the rythm of the key bowlers in the opposition. Even what Anamul did in the 2nd match would be enough for Shakib to settle in and keep things moving. I would like to see Nurul hasan replace Mosaddek at the death. We dont have power hitters but we do have a strong middle order and what others need to do is just smack the leather off the ball playing around these 4 players.

Liton averages 40 in the list A games with a strike rate of 91. Shanto averages 38 with a strike rate of 86. I think both of them deserves a shot in the opening spot in the next few series. It will give the team management an idea of the resources available for the world cup next year.
I know the quality of the domestic leagues is not high. But the options are limited. I also look forward to the A team tour in Ireland. I hope Shanto does well there.

Ashraful should have been in the A team tour. Back in the day He could smack 90 mph bowlers like Brett Lee and Shoaib so certainly he could do the job as a no 6 hitter

these domestic stats don't mean a **** to me.
Bijoy I heard earned his place back because he was scoring tons at 90+ SR, we all saw how he played in internationals.
Mosaddek also is another domestic bully, so is Liton.
But I agree that they deserve a shot.

With all seriousness I would pick Ashraful anyday over Sub-bir/Mosad or Bijoy.
But I think it's time for Lit or Shanto or Ariful(as a lower order hitter)

All my love to fans of BD cricket. The test series reminded me of the dreadful year 2014 (tour of Caribbean); and the Limited Overs leg reminded me of the flawless 2009 series over here (That series made me join BC a while after :) )

Go Bangladesh :fanflag:

Rally round the West Indies!

Thanks Akle.

I expected BD ODI win. WI is clearly struggling in that format. But I expected better performance in T20. Barring Russell, none of the other players seemed capable of playing a mature innings.

I was also surprised by good Windies support in the stadium. There were a lot of Guyanese. I am guessing coz they look very much like me or any average Bangladeshi. There were some good banters and it was fun.

What happened to Samuels? He was the catalyst to win the WC. Was he missing his buddies? Expected him to be the biggest threat at 2nd down. Good for us that he failed.

For the ODIs, WI need to find Yorker bowlers. I think zero ball bowled in that category. With that much height advantage then can make the dead pitch a bouncy pitch (see Walsh - Ambrose).
