So my mortgage has approved by Barclays. I am a first time buyer and buying a new build 3 bed house in Essex.
Will pay 20% deposit and rest help to buy and mortgage.
Buying a house is one of the most important step in life.
I am so excited and can’t wait to move my new house.

End of 2009. Bought it as a shell. Used to bribe the workers with food treats and they took special care of our flat while building it. The head foreman was an Arsenal fan and we would talk about football.

Ours was the most sought after development as it was not the typical hotel style and situated in an amazing place. Every owner that resold their flat did it in a week.

New builds can be amazing as they are extremely energy efficient and it doesn't get too hot either. But it all depends on how good the builders built it.

Rinan it's funny you made this thread now. I am also in contract currently but until I actually move in - nothing really changed. and i feel nothing. My feelings maybe this way probably because the property that i am in contract is built in 1960s. Also for me this purchase is financially a bad movebut my reasoning to go into it is not financial

I am gonna try to pay it off in 5 years. Thats a challenge I can look forward to perhaps.

Owning a house brings a qualitative change in your life. Once you own it you cherish it, you create memories in it.
You cannot do or feel the same in a rental. My granddad's house in Azimpur bears that same feeling, everytime I enter or go nearer to it, I start to feel that special emotion rising in my blood, dipping me into a tranquil unearthly realization not enough to explain in words. Same did not happen when I bought my apartment in Dhaka. It did not bring the similar charm.

When I bought my current house it was not much a feeling in the beginning. Perhaps I was already too old. But slowly as I started to know it, beyond the wood panels, baseboard vents, green backyard with occasional deer stroll or the attic, I started to feel the pulse of it and slowly the rhythm adhered to the rhythm of my heart.

I'm going to give a different perspective. I became a first time home owner last December, but I don't live in it. Instead, I continue to rent my studio apt in Queens and plan to rent ou tthe house.

For context, I bought a 2 family brick home, built in 1899, in Brooklyn, NY. The house itself didnt look very exciting, property came vacant in what realtors describe as TLC (tender, love, & care). Theres quite a bit of renovation work to be done, which I'm still finishing up.

You know before this I was looking for something on and off for about a year!! So to finally close was an incredible feeling. But I wasn't looking for a home, I was looking for an investment. So for me the important factor was strictly financial, not things like "oh is there a nearby daycare?", etc. And as things stand, even with the complete remodel work and lost rental income amortized, I am looking at a positive cash flow based on projected rent in the area. Infact, things are looking good, I already have 1 tenant approved - an optometrist with his own practice nearby.

Where I do feel an emotional attachment is knowing that I now own a piece of Brooklyn, one of the hottest markets on the planet, even if I don't actually live there :D

I met Rinan. This is not his first property. His first house to live in. In fact I think his job is buying and selling properties. From his excitement I am sure he got a great purchase.

My yearly property tax alone will be equal to my current yearly 2 bedroom apt rent. And None of the property tax will be tax deductible with current tax law. So this is financially the most dumbest thing i am ever doing in my life. But not everything can be measured in money.

I guess ppl have their thing.. i get more excited when s&p gain 10% in a year :p
