Hey Guys

Sorry...this might be a question asked heaps of times but I wasn't around to read it 1 week ago....

Why didn't Manjural Islam Rana play in the first test? Was he injured or did they just decide to replace him with Faisal Hossain/Tareq Aziz?

Thanks.

I just looked at the ODI's and test's videos. Thanks a lot for cricipagol and moderators to post these videos.

Looking at the video, I finally found out that Bd bowling is very weak besides Rafique and Rana's bowling. This might be akta "boro oshubidha" in Jamaica pitch.
"Jamaica pitch hobe ghash bhora" and I guess you guys know what that means..
Musfiq's line and length is nice but he gives a jump and comes down and then release the bowl which pretty much takes fractions of seconds and slows down his pace bowling. I know other pacers might have this action but they are obviously stronger and taller and also generates more pace. Tapash is good bowler but he gives sometimes short delivers. To a six feet guy these deliveries won't cause any problem at all. But his "aste kora" deliveries are just amazing. So, "amader akta hope akon include rana. Faisal is good but now we need another more effective all rounder. Sorry Faisal may be next time you will be a great hope.

I still not sure how Hannan and Javed will do good with the new balls. Javed showed confidence in first innings but second he was struggling so much. Hannan has lost his forms like kapali. So, Rana's inclusions justifies and is highly desirable for the next test. What you guys think?

He was not injured. It was perhaps a strategic decision to exclude him and Kapali in favor of Hanna / Gullu / Faisal / Aziz combo. The decision left so many what-ifs to ponder upon but nonetheless it never backfired and in fact might have helped someway Rafique and Masud to achieve personal milestones.

No doubt Chinaman, couldn't disagree. Whatever has happened...has happened.

But I must say, Faisal should be out and Rana in for 2nd test :-D

Tareq Aziz was very expensive...should he be replaced with Alamgir Kabir or given another chance knowing the fact that a few catches were dropped from his bowling?

Personally I don't support too much suffling for the sake of it which amounts to gamble at times and even more so with a working combination. Having said that, I'd love to see Rana instead of Hannan for the second test only.

You just read my mind chinaman.
I was also thinking Rana in place of Hannan in the 2nd test.
Hannan forgot how to bat - he needs a break like Alok.

How about drop Faisal and put Rana back

IMHO, Rana in for Faisal should be a no-brainer for the 2nd test. We cannot get rid of Aziz or Mushfiq because that would only leave us with 2 pacers/medium pacers on a wicket that is supposed to offer assistance to faster bowlers.

Even if 2 SLA bowlers are not particularly in demand for the Sabina Park wicket, Rana should replace Faisal at least for his batting. I don't think Rana is a natural test opening batsman...and I don't think we should force him into that position just because Hannan is out of form. Hannan has promise as an opener and he showed tentative signs of coming back in the 2nd innings. He should be allowed to persevere.

That would be unfair to Faisal. He just failed once, he should get some more chances.

He's lucky to be there in the first place and his 3 innings so far have not been inpressive...Rana deserves to be there

Important reminder: Rana is still with the team, as you all know, the 12th man. Alok and others have been sent back already. So, if there is ANY change, it would involve Rana automatically. He goes in, if anyone else is dropped.

Did you mean Alok and others are not in WI anymore? I think that 12 was selected for 1st test only. There will be a new selection of 12 for second test and probably the same 12 will be retained!

Most probably the firt test 12... even the playing 11 will be the same in the 2nd test.

as the team is doing nice as a whole... we can afford to giv Faisal another chance. I think he is promising! and he deserves another chance too.
that only means Rana has to stay out for atleast another match. this goes with the pitch condition also. Even though he is capable enough to make his place permanent in the team.

here is a grouping of our batting strength:

#Openers: Javed, Hannan
#Top order specialist batsmen:Ash, Rajin,Bashar, Faisal
#Mid order/Allrounders: Pilot, Rana, Mushfiq
#Late Order: Rafiq, Tareq, Tapash

its clear that Rana is an allrounder and not yet established as opener... and observing his batting technique it can also be said tht he might not suit as opener in long run.

I thik this grouping clarifies Rana's actual position and probably he cant be 'Traded' with someone from the other group!

The selection/preferance, at last, I suppose, comes from pitch/match conditions! and for now.. the existing combination (1st test) as a wohle is working great!
