I had some free time on my hands so I decided to make a few pie-graphs out of our players' performance in the recently completed tests. The graphs don't tell us anything new, just reinforce what we have already deduced so far in our discussions:

PS: Many thanks to chinaman bhai who got the graphs into the proper proportions for viewing in this forum :)

* Bashar contributed a whopping 23%! What a way to lead from the front?!

*Openers almost had non-existant contributions in this series. Contrast that with the Lower middle order and the tail's contribution.

PS; Bashar's contribution was deliberately left out to gauge the rest of the middle order's contributions.

gr8 work pompous!

once again, bashar seems to be the highest scorer for bangladesh in the series, and the 54% contribution from the tail is something to worry about.

* Part-time bowlers such as Rajin and Ashraful had zero impact! Full-time bowlers just had one really good outing i.e. the first WI innings of the first test.

Looks to me, from these graphs, that there are at least 2 areas of concern:

1. Our top and middle order's (sans Bashar) failure.

2. Lack of penetration from either our pacers or our spinners. Our bowlers captured a grand total of 12 wickets!

Of course we also have our miserable close catching to take care of as well.

Whatmore and Co. should have their hands full!

Lack of strike bowlers is apparent - however we must also take into account the value of bowlers who restrict runs and constrain the batsmen. Of course, the best value is when we have both in the team. Rafique may not have gotten a lot of wickets but he has been relatively miserly.

yes Dr. Z! but Rafique is our strike bowler. If he doesnot take wickets we are simply in for it. In my opinion he was too negative this series. He should have fighted the ball more to create more chances. Containment job in test cricket is far less valuable than in ODI cricket. A test batsman is not preturbed too much if he can't score for a few overs. If we want to win matches we will need to get 20 wickets. That would take at least 3 strike bowlers besides a brace of containment bowlers. Ceteris Paribas, 400 all out in 65 overs should be a more attractive outcome for the bowling side then, lets say, 350/7d in 130 overs.
