From the first few matches in the African zone, I'd not be too sure about the teams you've listed; I also have doubts about a couple of the European teams - they can be so unpredictable at times.

As for the Oceanian region, I feel that it will once again fail to make a world cup appearance.

In the Asian region, I'm not so sure about Iran.

From North America, Canada will definitely not qualify.

From the South, I wouldn't rule out Bolivia and Peru - you never know.

However, I do agree that yours is the most likely group.

Go Australia they will have a real chance this world Cup. They would have been definites if FIFA hadnt changed their mind about the oceania automatic Quilification.

its really not fair what oceania has to go thru every time... with the playoffs with south america atleast they have slim chances all the time.... if they HAVE to go for a playoff at all (which shudnt be the case) then atleast have a playoff with the Asians...

I donít think so, itís quite fair. No offence, but it would be quite easy meal for Australia to grab that final spot in Germany. I mean what are the chances for the rest of the Oceania countries to overtake Australia. Itís very slim. Now, if you check rest of continental zones and how fieriest the competition is, then you would think otherwise for the Oceania zones. Anyway, best of luck to Australia or whoever go through for that playoff spot.:umm:

Solomon Islands and New Zealand would provide competition for Australia. But I think Australia will be the Oceania team.

I think its just there good luck that they are such a huge portion of that zone... allah deese ora ki korbe... tai bole we have to put them in the gallows everytime they want to qualify? If FIFA is so worried abt giving them a cakewalk why play the South americans... let them atleast play the asians... thats all... but i still believe its a continent (oceania) and it shud be given the same qualifying system as given to every other ones...

and jodi antarcticar kono country khelte chai the same rule shud apply to them as well... ;)

ya they tried that already still they couldnít make to the final. I remember last time when they came very close to qualify, but unfortunately they couldn't get pass Iran.

Once again I am going to say no, there is hardly any competition in that region. Let me give you and example: pretty much every country in South American could whop any team in the world. Even though all those team are worthy enough to compete in world cup, but how many team they usually represent only 4 or so. Same goes for Europe, Africa, even Asia where competitions are much much stronger than Oceania region. Anyway, Australia suffered enough itís about time luck goes in thier way. ;)

Yeah exactly that is the major hurdle that australia has. If Kewell and Viduka play brilliant games along with Emerton and the rest then Australia will be in the world cup for the first time in over 30 years.

we also suck in cricket man...it's just that there aren't too many countries playing cricket to kick our butts harder than the few that do play are doing right now

Do you get to see any other sports in Bangladesh ever being mentioned on FrontPage of BBC Sports or Sky Sports or eve yahoo sports? I donít think so. But, at least we get to see our countryí name mentions when the boys play cricket. So thatís something you should be proud of boy.;)

Problem for Australia is that they always have to play barrage with fifth South American team, so they don't have big chance to qualify.
I suppose it would be more appropriate to let them play in the asian zone, which is the weaker of football confederations.

Also in this qualifications I was surprised to see China going out at the first round. It was nice to see them for the first time at the world cup in 2002, and I thought they were going to be following the path of a team like South Korea through the years.
Now, missing world cup 2006 puts them ten years behind and leaves the world of football without the biggest nation (by population) until 2010.

Why not have an Australasia Zone and have 6 teams Qualify from there? That should give the Aussies a fair chance to qualify, and would warrant an even competetion.

Edit: sorry Xavier I didn't realize you made that post. I didn't mean to simply repeat what you said.

Not a problem at all;), anyway I think 5 teams from "australasia" would be better, if you consider Africa only have five.

Well...Australia did have the opportunity of playing against Iran in the play-offs for 98 World Cup....But they found the Iranians too hot to handle....So I guess they have had a fair chance..They r just not good enough.....

Xavier
March 21, 2005, 01:16 PM
Yes that's true, but they had a little bit of bad luck: they had a good result 1-1 in Teheran, then they got 2-0 in Sydney but Iran scored twice in the last 20 minutes.

I remember watching on tv barrage Australia-Argentina for Usa'94. It was 1-1 in Sydney before losing 1-0 in Buenos Aires, the South Americans were so scared they could miss qualification that they called back Diego Maradona for the second match!

Shehwar
March 22, 2005, 12:12 AM
THE BOTTOM LINE HOWEVER IS: THEY ARE SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH WHETHER ITS ASIA OR SOUTH AMERICA ! ...U know last time they lost 3-0 to Uruguay !!!

Xavier
March 24, 2005, 05:22 PM
I was not intended to start a dispute between the two of us, I just mean that football is a highly unpredictable sport and any kind of result can happen (last summer Italy lost to Island, just like if England would lose to Nepal in a cricket ODI) so you can never say never...
by the way there are news for Australia, they probably move to asian zone for 2010:

http://www.soccerway.com/news/full/?page=details&area=1111576561

>>>>I think I have to make an adding to this post to make my opinion clear:

At last I do agree with you Shehwar: it is the verdict of the field what really counts. So if the Australians did not get to the WC since 1974 they simply deserved that, as we must say that if Greece won Euro 2004 it's because they fully deserved to win, altough nobody could say that on a general level Charisteas is better than Van Nistelrooy or Dellas better than Nesta.
It is the result of the game that counts... and that's what makes english fans so disappointed about team's competitions! lol
