Prothom-Alo Report (http://www.prothom-alo.net/newhtmlnews1/category.php?CategoryID=9&Date=2004-06-23)
so, what gonna be cricket vanues? will the new mirpur (?) stedium be done before that?
is this decision justified? its been one of the issue that has been discussed most, and has lots of opinion. i guess this is the final time we need to do that.
what u think?

The Mirpur stadium is ready and playable, from what I saw in January. If you want to hold a tournament, you could do with with a few weeks preperation. However, BCB is going to turn it to a modern facility with all amenities, including gym, better lights, better seating, new pressboxes, state of the art media center etc. BCB will have an office there also. The planning is done already. I don't know if they have projected a timeframe for the project. Regardless, it is a developed ground, much bigger than BNS.

Can't give you picture of the stadium but you can see a game that was going on in that stadium:

Huda: I hope you know about the Mirpur Stadium. It starts right at the bus stop of Section 2, next to the telephone exchange building. The stadium runs the entire length of section 2 all the way to section 6. . The width is from section 2 to section 10. It is the largest stadium Bangladesh has. Now, the Australians gifted us the improvement plans for free. The improvement work should be under way now. I think it is indeed projected to be finished before BCC moves in. BCC is going to use the BNS 'til March, '05.

FRB: I remember this piece of information from when it was being constructed. If fully built, it will be able to hold 60,000 people, is what I remember. It's a huge ground.

Honestly, I don’t care about the BNS. Our cricket has reached to a level, where we do not need BNS anymore. Let those gunda’s of BFF to take over BNS. I want to see what these stupid can do with BNS. As BFF have BNS now, we should qualify for WC Football. Right?

Kana-Baba said the right thing. Its all dirty big club politics. They've been playing shoddy business with gate-money for a long time. They even tried to blackmail cricket. Thanks to Corporate League, that scheme failed. Football is in the gutter. BFF should not even have the Fatullah stadium. Going by our FIFA ratings, Soccer should be played exclusively in high school grounds outside Dhaka. :)

Spot on BCB. My understanding about Mirpur stadium is it's bigger, better and going to have state-of-the-art facilities thanks to Cricket Australia's advice on master planning and BCB's forward thinking. There is no question about it's grandiosity as it was mainly built for the SAFF game first staged in BD. As BCB is thinking of setting up a national cricket academy like all other test playing nations they could come up with no other idea than transforming Mirpur stadium into one. Even though BNS was built as a focal point of East pakistani cricket it's no longer contextually correct nor strategically placed to be nucleus of test playing Bangladesh. Structure wise it's on the verge of falling apart. It has no space around it to carry out even minor development works. And everytime BD played an international match there foreign media were keen to assert what a mammoth task it was to transport teams from Hotel Sheraton/Sonargaon to BNS due to traffic jams in Motijheel Business District area which sould be a merely 15 minutes bus ride at best. As planned if Mirpur stadium has all indoor facilities then national team practice would be held there without relying heavily on BKSP. I think it'll make a good international venue too. Can we just have a fast-bouncy practice pitch or two there please?
