View Full Version : Best Playing XI, as we speak...

Ok. I always enjoy announcing my 'sure success' eleven :) . So here I go again.....

1. Javed Omar
2. Nafis Iqbal
3. Majarul Islam/ Md. Ashraful*
4. Rajin Saleh
5. Md. Ashraful/ Manjarul Islam*
6. Aftab Ahmed
7. Khaled Masud
8. Mushfiqur Rahman
9. Khaled Mahmood/ Md.Rafique**
10.Tapash Baishya
11.Tareq Aziz ***

* Both Ash and Rana would surely be playing in my final eleven at no.3 or no.5 spot. Both JO and NI are genuine openers , so we should rather try Ash at 3 or 5. Ash recently played well against new ball and batting at no.3 would give him the added value of his innings if he can play a long one leaving Rana at 5 with dashing batsman Aftab to follow who can change tempo of the game. On the other hand, last time Rana played at opening he did well. There is no question about his sheer will to stay at the crease and help others building innings around him which would make him a good make-shift no.3 and Ash back to no.5 which is, i still believe, his best position if not no.4. He won us our last ODI victory batting at no.5 position.

** Summer is almost over in England. In September, beginning of English winter season , I would like to see atleast 3 quicks in my team leaving Rafique and Mahmood to fight out for a spot. Like Chinaman I would prefer Mushfiq ahead of Mahmood as I do believe he is the best first change bowler at present situation. Tapash is an automatic choice. I'd rotate Rafique and Mahmood against the likes of Ireland and perhaps Scotland. If Rafique can't cut it, which is a hugh possibility seeing him in the Asia Cup, then Mahmood would get the nod for England.

*** Right now, Tareq seems to be a better choice than Nazmul. There is a possibility that Tareq would go for few runs if he opens with Tapash in first couple of overs. In that situation Mushfique can come in to check the scoring rate. Tareq proved to be a cool customer in the last 15 overs slot.

Pilot should bat at no.7. He can always take quick singles and doubles with occasional flurry of runs. Mushfiq should come after him.

7 batsmen + 5 bowlers ---> 4 quicks/swingers (possibly**) and a SLA

ODI cricket is designed for batsmen. Like Chinaman I hope this team should score 250+ consistantly.

I await wins. :)

i dont want mushfique in the team - i'd rather have rafique and chacha together.

i also want ash at 5, rajin at 3, aftab at 4 and rana at 6

But Rajin wants to play at no.4. That pushes Aftab at 5 which, we both agree, is the best spot for Ash. Hence Aftab at no.6. The reason I don't want Rana at 6 is he's mainly a grafter and only scores/stays at the crease with his sheer will force. At times he struggled to pace up his innings in the last 10 overs (WI tour). But he had success in the upper order. We could do with Aftab at no.6 and Pilot to follow who is the master of taking 1s and 2s in the team.

Hope this explains my selection policy ;)

Good to see people warming to the idea of Ash at 5 and Rana relieved of opening. That's good. Although Pilot needs to move up so that he gets enough overs in case of a collapse so that we cann recover, as he did in Asia cup. Also, if Pilot gets the singles, we have Aftab to take care of the boundaries and hopefully a partnership in the middle orders.

i'd take nazmul or anyone instead of tareq. sorry, i could never have faith in him. other than that it does not really matter.

My opinion

The first practice match team should be as close to the first ODI as possible. I also think all players should be given a chance in at least one practice match. My team in batting order (for the first IDO) unless someone is terribly out of form or someone shows great performance in the practice matches would be as below:

1. Javed Omar
2. Nafees Iqbal
3. Ashraful (back up leggie)
4. Rajin (back up off spinner)
5. Aftab
6. Pilot
7. Rana (SLA)
8. Mushfiq (opening bowler)
9. Mahmud (first change pace bowler)
10. Rafiq (SLA)
11. Taposh (opening bowler)

The bowling looks thin. So the option might be to bring in Tareq in place of Mahmud or Mushfiq.

Surely Al-Sahariar deserves a recall but in the middle order?

u do konw about our cricket gary :)

al sharier is a maze. his performance is domestic cricket and practice matches are always good but never shiny in real matches.

also, i think he did not join the "high performance unit" (not sure). this unit is a development program where players has to join to get the fitness and all. most player who loses a position joins there to get a chance to come back. he didn't. so, i don't see much chance of him coming back soon.

N.B. Al-sahariar should never play for Bd again, he is the worst 'batsmen' i have ever seen.

Team for CT

Javed
Nafis
Rajin
Ash
Manju
Aftab
Mashud
Mushfiqur
Rafique
Tapash
Tareq

In england seamers generally do well so maybe Nazmul could play instead of Rafique, but the Bd u-19's seemed to use a lot of spin with success. Also we have no idea how well Nazmul will play.

I think the side is a batsmen short, however their is no point selecting Faisal, a bowler will score as many runs as him. Mahmud may have claims for a place but i refuse to select him because it is a backwards move and younger more talented players deserve their chance now.

- Also we have no idea how well Nazmul will play.

For the first match, I would put Tareq in and Nazmul can sit in the bench. Yes, Tareq is way too expensive against India/Pakistan/Sri Lanka/West Indies. But he is competitive against Zimbabwe, so may be he'll do a better job in Ireland against Ireland.

1. Opening pair formed as 'JO-Nafis' by many here..
any declarations/facts yet to support that?

2. No.3 position becomes a question.. cos the most stable batsman is supposed to be there... who is that in current team?! (to me.. everybody seems to be unstable.. except Pilot/JO mayb.. but they cant be at no.3 ofcourse!)

3. Shud there be more than 2 debutants in any match?? (not talking about practice matches).. in my opinion.. NO!

There is no way you can select more than 2 debutants from this team.

Guys as long as these batsmen can produce results I personally dont care what the line up is ....because we need to be in form..which is quite difficult for us..:umm:

How come Nazmul is in this squad, i mean really, he's like 16, u cannot possibly be good enough for international cricket at that age unless ure some sort of prodigy (which i dont think Nazmul is). Surely we have another fast bowler better than a 16 year old.

Lets see how they do with Ireland and Scotland, then think about the best formation.
Since Nafis, Aftab and others are not consistent, the formation could do a little.

Watching Nazmul in England i would agree he has potential put other bowlers like Tariq, Mushfiq, Mahmud are ahead of him in the pecking order. Just to have him around the senior team will be a good experience for him.

Playing XI for USA match

1. Javed Omar
2. Md. Ashraful
3. Nafis Iqbal
4. Rajin Saleh
5. Aftab Ahmed
6. Faisal Hussain/ Mushfiqur Rahman *
7. Khaled Masud
8. Nazmul Hussain
9. Khaled Mahmood
10.Md.Rafique
11.Tapash Baishya

*Mushfique hasn't recovered from injury yet, i take.

It's difficult to leave out Rana, but we certainly need 6 genuine batsmen. Why don't Rajin, Ash and Faisal together bowl 10 over? It would give bit more variety i.e. off-spin (Rajin), leg break (Ash) and slow medium pace (Faisal). Bowling rotation wise it would be interesting.

Faisal scored runs in the last practice match, but i dont think its a sign of things to come. And i still think Ash at 3,4 rather than opening, but hey hes been doing well lately so maybe theres no point fixing something that aint broke.

Mahmud seems to have secured his place in the side ahead of Mushi, so i guess the only to selection debates are tareq or nazmul and faisal or manju.

take my words for it, this is what u will see in CT:

01. JO
02. Ash
03. Nafis
04. Rajin
05. Aftab
06. Pilot
07. Rana
08. Mushfique
09. Rafique
10. Sujon
11. Tapash

sujon and mushfique are same type of bowlers and thats the type that had been proven to be the most useful so far in english condition. Tareq and nazmul's performance based on practice matches are horrible. that brings in both mushfique and sujon. probably mushfiq and tapash will open and sujon will be the first change.
even though faisal got some runs in last match, so did aftab. aftab's recent experience with u19 will count most and faisal will be outbidded. rest are simple.
