should start in several hours now if there is no rain...this is gonna be a good match.

after thoroughly crushing Hong Kong even after batting poorly, we made a start to show that we do not belong in any "2nd tier." but it was just a start...we have to beat 2nd class teams by a fair margin all the time. we cannot afford to lose to 2nd rate teams...for every associate team we lose to, we have to beat 1 test nation to make up for it.

however, Ireland and Scotland are more important teams than HK. we need to win all 4 matches against them by at least 30 runs or 4-5 wickets.

There is no doubt in my mind that BD is not 2nd tier quality...but we arent at the test ranks yet....we're closer to test than 2nd tho...and inshallah in a few years we will be at the test rank.

Reason: Might as well make this the official thread

is there anywhere we can watch it online?

btw there's a huge gap between hong kong facing big guns for the first time in history and ireland in their own homeground with the fresh memories of beating zimbabwe, a couple of the english county teams and the WI chasing 290 odd.

Better go to sleep! Seems we cant even expect a win over Ireland, as others says.:(
Since there is a huge difference between Ireland & HK, we could be knocked out by them.
I wonder what would happened, if we lose to Ireland & Scotland...., I don't want to think about it.

46 runs in 11 overs - too many runs are given away by our bowlers.

To be honest, if we were playing against any stronger teams like Sri Lanka/India/England, then they could have scored 66 runs instead of Ireland's 46 runs after 11 overs.

Rubu
August 29, 2004, 05:44 AM
yes, fw. they are doing good. there is nothing (other than the sole wicket) bd bowlers done thats goes in their pocket.

cap'n is on. u think too early? it would be interesting to see how he does as captian. as we all know, its the pressure that give the measurement of a true captain.

bd needs to take 1-2 quick wickets. if this pship goes on, ireland will get over 250 making it tough for bd.

however, ireland has got a good batting line-up and ireland r even aiming for odi status and test status. molins, bray and botha r their main batsman and 1-2 others can bat also.

but the question is, can bd chase 250 ???

rain will go against bd in a rain curatiled match. bd could take just 1 wk and if ire scre at a rr of 5, then bd could be chasing at a rrr of 6.

this match is looking tough for bd. ire look to be stronger team than nam, who have a 7-1 record to bd in their last 8 matches (4-1 in 2003, 3-0 in 2004). i cant understand y didnt ire play in the 6-nation challenge:-/

The extras bowled are due to lack of match-practice - after all, these are the practice matches.

I'm thinking, the BD team went to Ireland to have some match-practice, and if they don't get enough practice due to the rain, then what was the use of staging so many practice matches? The players could do the practice in Bangladesh. There is just one little thing - there have been too many hartals in Dhaka, and I don't know whether players get to practice much during the hartal-times.

Now that Mushfique is injured, if he does not get fit by the start of the Champions Trophy, then who will replace Mushfique? Will Monjurul Islam get a chance? Or, will the selectors look on other U-19 bowlers like Nazmul citing the fact that all other players are now out of match-practice?

I hope Whatmore is now going at the players - at this moment since the players are now in the dressing room for the rain.

I'm thinking, the whole Bangladesh team is now demoralized anyway after playing and losing all the matches at the International level. Didn't BCB think before organizing the tours that losses to Scotland and Ireland will demoralize the team even more? I hope that Bangladesh team does not go that low.

Musfique's injury shouldn't be a major one. I hope not. In worst case scenario we can call up Talha as Mushfique's replacement. Talha bowled well in U-19 ODI matches. He was economical too, unlike others. U-19 coach praised him duely.

The BCB can arrange games agaist only Hong Kong, Nepal, Malaysia to increase moral of our cricketers.

Rain should not help us any more. We need some loses from teams without oneday status which might help because losing to test teams does not bother our robot players.

Talha bowled well in U-19 ODI matches.

But Talha came in as first change, that's why (my opinion) Talha's economy rate was less than usual at one stage. Later, when Talha came into bowl at the depth, he was punished duely as his economy rate climbed from 3 to 5.

The Namibian sites also mentioned Namibia versus Bangladesh matches as ODI matches, remember?

In fact, I would say that even we used to call matches such as these as ODI matches without properly knowing the definition of ODI matches, that is, when we were a non-test nation.

There is no need. As these are not ODI matches, so there won't be any super supper (check spelling) machines on the ground, and even if the grounds are tremendously well-prepared by Ireland, (and even if the rain stops) they won't be trying hard to make the ground condition suitable for play because these matches do not have ODI status, because there simply aren't experienced ground staff around to make those grounds suitable when the rain does stop.

RAIN RAIN RAIN.
Always there is rain.
Rain in Zimbabwe.
Rain in West Indies.
Rain in England (U19).
Now rain in Ireland.
VERY FRUSTRATING after waiting long hours for a match.
Cricket authorities should find an alternative.........

Cricket authorities should find an alternative.........

The hard reality is that the only other alternative is not to participate in any tour/tournament at all and then pay the compensation like for the New Zealand ODI series in New Zealand.

As there are 10 countries now playing against each other, however small the time-span of staying in one country is, there is rain everywhere all year round all over the world. So you can't avoid rain/snow/storm.

I believe Rafique will play in tomorrow's match replacing injured Mushfique and Tareq will play in place of Nazmul, unless we decide to play Foisal (batsman, also a part time spinner) in place of Nazmul.

Because Mushfique is injured/will be given time to recover from injury and I believe that Whatmore has seen enough of Nazmul.

Honestly speaking, if Nazmul can give away over 5 runs an over to Ireland, then he'll definitely give away 6 runs an over against South Africa/West Indies. If we get enough matches to practice for our regular players, then Nazmul will come in, to rest the regulars.
