Lets all take this time to get to know each other a little better

I'm a 13 year old student for Brisbane, Australia. I love cricket and play rep. I'm a fast bowling opener and would like to know more about you all

I am Fahmida Waliullah - live in Dhaka - Bangladesh.

I have been watching cricket on TV since 1996 World Cup. Have been reading Bangladesh cricket news since around about that time (since Bangladesh's tour of USA / Canada just before the ACC 95-96 / ICC 97 tournament).

I now write articles on cricket mainly on this site (with gratitude and encouragement from Tehsin and other members of this and the last messege board at rivals.net - test status.com).

Arnab

I am in my early twenties, doing my undergrad here in the land of the free.

I haven't seen a cricket match on tv in the last 13 months. Hence I stay away from commenting ANYTHING about Bangladesh cricket most of the time.

Arnab, do you attend RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology)??

I have a friend there... he is kinda like you or you are kind of like him, however you take it.

By the way, Homeview BTV is not TV. That Sucks. It's radio. Unless you really saw it on tv.

Orpheus

I am also doing my ungrad and it sucks cause I gotta pay - "not land of free" for me but certainly "brave".

I really don't give the damn about world cricket. I follow or try to follow all the Bangladesh games. Beside some household names, I am not really familiar with many cricket players nor I care to know them. I get to know about other players only when Bangladesh plays that team. Beside everyone knows about everything in the internet era - so there is no point of "learning" and ppl actually think they are smart on messageboard. HAHA

Watching the game on TV is just matter of time as I am in Newyork.

I and handle go hand in hand - no, not literally !

For those who are curious - I'm an EE manager located in Northern Virginia with one of the leading comm companies here in the US (ahem..ok I had to get that out).

Between my 11 hr work days and tending to my wife's needs (whatever they maybe), I have found in this web-board a perfect opportunity to vent all my cricket related emotions.

Oh, one other thing..

GO Tehsin - You have really matured over the past 9 months towards being a more tolerant and congenial creator ! Bow down to him !!

By the way Brother Pundit (<-- you chose the name, I am sorry if it sounds bad) - what's an EE manager? if you don't mind me asking and are not insecured about you identity like some other member. I could search in google but what the hell....

Whew, with all the oldies around, I feel much much younger now. I am about 18, errrrrr, I mean 28. Doing my Masters while looking for that big accounting job. Unfortunately, the folks from Arther Anderson have flooded the market and the Sheikh, the Mohammad, and the Ali in my name hasn't really helped much at all. *wink*

I started off the cricket site over five years ago (yep) with the first site hosted by a little ISP in Arkansas (iocc.com/~salient/). Moved it to rivals (teststatus.com - I wanted bengaltigers.com cause of all the hype about us being the brave tigers and what not but it was taken by some RBT folks) after a year cause they gave me free pix, unlimited space, a message board and a chat room.

My first member in the message board was none other then Fahmida Waliullah. Every time I see her post, it reminds me of the good old days. Met Rajputro through the message board ofcourse. There were others, don't want to name names because if I forget to mention them - I'm dead. That site also hosted all the teams (still probably has one of the best Indian cricket sites out there) but unfortunately the network had to drop most of us.

We moved over here early this year. Had to set up thewhole thing all over again, tried to save most of the old members but lost half of them (our performance on field caused most of the ....). The other site had a whole of of info, news, tours and articles (I used to write a whole lot which I haven't in months) that are still locked in a back up cd somewhere in my desk.

What else, I am in Texas, DFW to be exact. Only 10 minutes away from Six Flags (haven't been there once since I moved to Texas two an a half years ago). If you're driving through Texas, give me a hollar and will try to give you a Texas size welcome (Yeah right).

Faka mathe goal marlaam. Muahahahah.
(scored on an open goal)

Even though technically Pilot was born on February 02 of 1976 (one of the FEW Bangladeshi cricketers not born on the month of December - you didn't notice that slip by BCB, did you ?) almost all Bangladeshi players are a couple of years off from their real age.

Therefore, here it is:
Tehsin = Pilot

(Look at all our player profiles and note the date of birth on each. Is it coincidental or did BCB do a pretty bad job while faking those birth certificates)

James90
September 30, 2002, 06:59 PM
lets start which Bangladeshi we're most like. If you play cricket and age. I'd be the youngerst fast bowlers so.....Sharif or Talha.

Tehsin

Zakir, welcome to the board. I like football too, like you. And also, a big mohammedan fan.

AS for cricket, I am a lousy bowler but somewhat a opener, like Golla. I can hold on, oh ya.

about 4 years ago, I gathered 5/6 guys on a parking lot, started playing cricket, soon I created a team. named it the Houston Bengals. As it grew, politics came it. Which is typical for BD. I quit and gave it to the others. The team is still there, split into 2. Both plays in the Houston Cricket League 2nd division as the only 2 BD teams.

Last year, The Houston Bengals won the 2nd Division League and move to the first division.

James90
October 1, 2002, 04:45 PM
I can see off the fast bowlers and push the ball around a little but I don't usually end up with big scores. Sooner or later I might loose the opener spot but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen this year. However I fansy myself as a bit of a bowler. I'll have to clock myself for Pundit I think around 120-125km/h maybe that's a little high. And that's all about me

I was out for 4 days and now finding everybody is introducing themselves. Actually i was always wondering about all of you, about your age, where are you from etc etc.... I don't write in this forum too much - but I definitely read the postings made to this forum and enjoy the discussion - because I consider myself as a big time Bangladesh Cricket fan - even though they suck - but always awaiting for there improvement. Anyway, I am working in a semiconductor company in US and by the way, after reading all the postings in this thread - I feel that may be I am the oldest one so far. I live in Phoenix, Arizona.

When Bangladesh is playing - I don't miss those matches following or watching (not always possible in US). Sometime I have big fight with my wife for that waste of time (to her).

Anyway, tehsin really have done a very good job..... tanks for that.

Hii,
Have to reopen this thread and thanks Habibul fan for opening such a wonderful topic. It's amazing.

About Me:

I am 21. Doing my B.Sc. In Computer Science and Engineering in BUET(Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.)
Govt. Laboratory High School is my school and Notredame College is my college.

I think I am one of the few BD loving and also BD living members of this amazing site.
I am a good batsman. :P Usually played at 1/2 down. Was in the first 15 of my school but my mom didn't allow me to play in School cricket :(
I am not that good bowler having a medium pace..But I give rare wide/no's and When I bowl batsmen like me very much because they can easily hit sixes over my head.;)

That's it. I love this site. :D

I accidently joined the chat room recently while following the BD aus tour. I left BD at an early age and spent most of my time abroad. Cricket passion for me began at university level in England. As it was the early eighties and late nineties, I was not familiar with BD cricket.
Most of the time following county cricket; supporter of Sussex while Imran was bowling. Used to wicket keep for a small college team in Surrey and always admire a good wicketkeeper.
Right now I live in New York and occassionally participate in the NJ cricket scene, wicketkeeping again. I am 37 so I guess one of the burra bhais here. Although I live abroad I travel to BD nearly every year and sometimes more frequently so I would consider myself well informed. As I am a regular follower of Eng cricket I am planning to visit Dhaka to coincide with the Eng/BD series.

I might as well put my 2 takas worth in.

I am 27 years old living in London, UK. Born and bred here, but been to Bd about 6 times including getting married there. Working as a computer analyst.

I still play sometimes cricket, but not that often, thats why I have moved from number 4 batman to 6/7. I am mainly used as a wicketkeeper now. My teams website is www.oldcentralians.play-cricket.com

I went to a couple of Bd games here during the 1999 World Cup including the famous win over Pakistan. Will go again during next years ICC Champions Trophy.

Well I think I'm the oldest. I'm 38, llive in El Paso, Texas. Lived in Dhaka 72-85, followed national selection everywhere within BD during the Kabir, Raquibul, Heera days. Now, alas apart for annual visits to England, don't get to watch cricket live. A few of you will already know me, the newer ones won't, as I have been away from banglacricket for a while.

I'm 24 years old, born and brought up in Austria (NOT Australia) by Bangladeshi parents. Spent five years in London, UK first studying, then working as a boring, boring auditor. Now work for the UN, but not for long, as I'm moving to Canada to study again.

My connection to cricket? Believe it or not, when they kicked off youth cricket in Austria, I represented my school at the few tournaments that were organized. Indoor, six a side stuff with tennis balls. Things have improved a bit; they even have a national team now, but I'm not in it, so who gives a rat's a**.

Good to see banglacricket continues to grow.

By the way, WisdenVoice, is your esteemed magazine finally toning down the anti-Bangladesh rhetoric? I hope the days of destructive criticism (bashing Bangla for the heck of it) are over.

rafiq
August 13, 2003, 03:56 AM
who was your uncle who kept for azad boys - what year? you mentioned being a fan of nazim shirazi - his brother Kazim was a keeper for Azad Boys in the mid eighties if memory serves me right.

no one mentions old greats such as badshah and yusuf babu - think those players could have done very well in the test scene.

although I must have posted something on an intro before, the update is I live and work in Chicago as a business startup specialist. Have been in the US since mid eighties, am in my mid-30s but act like life is just starting (my growing waistline suggests otherwise). Grew up watching cricket but reallywas only serious about playing soccer.

During my free time I run and coach a youth soccer club - my son plays on it and is maybe a bit younger than james.:o

Spend an inordinate time on this board because there is little other than cricket that cheers me up about Bangladesh. Despite all the losses, I am glad there is finally something we are doing on the world stage as a nation.

My uncle is Shabu Pathan. Played with Azad Boys in early 70's, then migrated to Toronto. I did watch some of the early BD greats like Yusuf Babu (Heck of a hard-hitting opening bat), Jehangir Shah Badshah (pretty good medium pacer/decent middle order bat). I was also impressed by the play of the Wicket-keeper Shafiqul Hoq Heera, and fast medium Dipu Roy Chowdry. Dipu Chowdry tossed in a rare bouncer at a visiting Deccan (HYdrabad Blues) team caesing them to dust off their helmets. They had not anticipated a BD bowlers capable of generatin g a viscous beaner. It was the small victories we lived for in the early days. They played against the MCC touring teams containing Conrad Hunte/John Hampshire, early SL teams containing Warnapura, Tennekoon, Roy Dias and one or more of the perennial De Silva brothers, and acquitted themselves well enough.

To be fair though, there was no one of Mushrafee or Bashar's class in those days.

So finally I get a chance to say something abt myself... (was secretly hopin someone would get this thread back up :saint: )

Ok lets see, I am Sami... born and brought up in Dhaka but right now in germany (Note: a country I despise). I am 18 and doing my second year in Uni majoring in Elec Eng and Comp Science...

Well abt cricket... I was more into football till the 1992 cricket WC. My dad wanted me to be more interested in cricket (dunno why though... for some unknown reason, he hates it when I play any sports) so he got me this big poster with all the captains from that tourney... and been hooked to cricket ever since. I was in my school team (dhanmondi tutorial) for the Nirman School tournament in Dhaka and right now play as the opening bowler of my Uni (believe it or not, there is a Cricket League called the North German Cricket League and surprisingly there is an all german cricket team there). Played in a few frindlies and some lame indoor tournaments (6 a side) for my Uni...

I guess thats quite a big intro... but i love to talk abt myself :P ;)

I'm 22 and currently in my fourth year at university in upstate NY. Born and brought up in Dhaka, I played Nirman for my school side as an opening bowler and number 3 batsman (averaged 87 with the bat :) ). Attended boarding school in England from 98-00, again representing my school at the Middlesex league. Moved to the states in August of 2000 and haven't played a competetive match since. However, I try to catch as much cricket as possible on tv during my summer and winter breaks in Dhaka. Desperately hoping to find a team to do nets with this winter.

Radical,

I was merely asking if the gents were affecting a west indian style of conversing with us (ie "rastafari", a religious faith that migrated from ethiopia to Jamaica and the WI and popularized in reggae music) - or if they genuinely speak this way. Apparently I offended them deeply and they feel strongly that I am a prick from London's East End.

And I was merely being politically correct in my ambiguous salutation of boys vs. girls since there are many women members on the board and I didn't know what gender this species belonged to. But that was an affront to the lads' manhood, to which they asked me to stop being a sissy woman with my spin bowling and become a real man, a pacer.

Perhaps this is why the WI has produced some terrifying pacers over the years. There must have be a lot of peer pressure to suppress the natural urge to spin!

But we might just be inside the Matrix, and this is only my version. ;)

Hey there Cricket Lovers:cool:

I'm 26 from Melbourne and play second grade state cricket for Essendon.

I would love to see the game become bigger than some other sports and would like to see the ICC develop the game further in Canada and the U.S! Perhaps a world cup in either country would do wonders for the game! Look what has happened with soccer in the U.S!

Anyhow glad to be here better get to bed - going to see Aus vs India at the G today! (A bit nervous too)

okay.... jeez.... i'm almost blushing as i have to introduce myself to such members with so much knowledge (i.e. definition of "rastafari") and .... errrr.... what's the word i'm looking for here....

anyways, i am shovon. a dumbass kiddo who will be nineteen this march (better send my birthday gifts, or else... ). i am pretty much a sports maniac. i used to play cricket in patuakhali for my school. but that was back in the old days. since i moved to usa, i have found new love in basketball, and i play pretty good.

currently i'm in LA, finishing up high school. i'll be in college (don't know which one, but i wanna go to johns hopkins) by this september. no idea how i'll pay $30,000 per year, so it's either ALLAH (hopefully FBI isn't checking this messageboard too) or loan (or maybe scholarships)

well.... my dear respected crackheaded (hehehe) murubbis and peers, this is me.

errrr..... what?
not really. there is no interest on student loan, not till i have a job. the interests start piling on six months after i get a job.

to the best of my knowledge, interests aren't illegal in USA. or any nation for that matter. right guys?

Sami

That way every muslim has to stop putting money in the bank... cause all money in the bank will get interest...

anyways not eveyone is rich enuf to make it to college witout student loan... I dont think the ppl who provide the loans will be thrilled to hear u dont wanna pay the interest cause u are a muslim...

it's true in muslim religion we aren't supposed to take or give interests.

I guess I am the newest member of Banglacricket now. So, hello everybody!

I have just passed 25, and doing my Masters in the land of the rising sun (in case that doesn't ring a bell- it's Japan). I have been here for the last six years and don't have any chance to watch cricket. I have been following the Banglacricket site for the last six months or so. Our fellow member "Bangla_Amar" bhai introduced it to me during the Pak-BD series. Finally I decided to take the plunge and be a member myself! Now I am one of you and happy to be so!

I really enjoy the columns of F Waliullah and the commects of Nascer bhai and Tehsin bhai. You people are just great! Thanks for creating and maintaining this site.

I am a systems consultant, in my mid 30's. Working for an American company, and this job takes me to various parts of the world. Currently in Saudi Arabia.

Never played cricket, but love it passionately. Before bangladesh came into the test arena, I used to support WI and AUS, but not anymore, Now only BD.

Waiting for a miracle to happen, and then on we will cruise.

About test status, rest assured, it will never taken away from us. We are here for a long haul. Simply put the business reasons, and anybody could get the idea. Afterall, ICC is in the business of cricket, not just for the fun of it. And we in bangladesh, generating lots of dough for them, just look at the capacity crowd at even U/19 matches.

You guys are good!

Interesting that you liked the BD flag as a child. Did you know the first Bangladesh flag had a picture of the country right smack in the middle of the red circle? They gave up after it became too hard to draw each time!

took a long time to reply - it IS good wine and lots of sun (even on cold days) but the catalans work like beasts - theyre called the europeans of spain - which s a shame.

as for the flag - sounds really nice, but in reality it does sound a bit impractical

Without any iota of doubt, the idea is great!
It is very good that we want to know each other. In the forum, we are not only Bangladeshi, but lovers of Bangladesh Cricket.

However, I feel that a thread like this may not be a solution of the problem. It would soon turn to a thread of simple Chat and it would be impracticable to find the detail of somebody, we might like to know from the postings.

The best possible solution may be that we would spend little more time for editing our profiles or be kind to be informative for making the profiles while registering. I am sorry I, myself also did not do that.

Anyway, good to know about many people who loves Bangladesh Cricket.

I decided to take the plunge after being on the fence since the Aus. tour, when I discovered this site accidentally.

I'm a born-again cricket fan. Used to play cricket (wk) growing up in Chittagong. Have not played cricket since I left BD (88).

In my early 30s. Work as Design Engineer(EE) at JPL's (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) Deep Space Network (DSN) project. JPL is NASA's unmanned wing - deals exclusively spacecraft which are geared for interplanetary missions (i.e. Viking, Gemini, MarsExplorer etc.).

Used to work at telecom and loved it. Was one of the lucky few who got a job after the big collapse when JPL saw my resume on monster.

An avid hockey (L.A. Kings) and basketball fan. However, hockey has been the only game which I've paid money to get my heart broken every yr.

I've been a Martial Artist for the last nine yrs (Kenpo Karate-Shaolin style) and teach it at least once a week at a local dojo.

Banglacricket.com had been both a blessing and a curse (glued to it when team is playing).

Married with a one yr. old.
Still trying to find a proper way to explain to the wife why cricket is so much better than baseball and have no clue how to answer her question as to why/how a game has to last 3/5 days.
Maybe other people who are in my sit. can help me out:)

Oh by the way, I'm Iqbal.

But, I still follow bangladesh cricket and really want bangladesh to become a major cricket nation

Never been there, but I had a colleague who claimed that he was a schoolmate of Abbas Ali and his father worked (in SBI, I think) with Sanjay Jadgale.

When you are from Indore and interested in cricket, the obvious question to ask is : Have you ever met Mushtaq Ali ?

When I was in school in the 70s, one boy joined my class. When asked by the avid cricketer of the class where he had come from, he replied " Rajasthan".

Then he was asked " Have you met Salim Durrani", he replied in the negative.

"What? You have come from Rajasthan and you have not met him?" exclaimed the incredulous avid cricketer.

well Tom may I say that it is a real pleasure knowing an Australian who is supporting Bangladesh and witnessing the development of the cricket in Bangladesh.

However one question...what would you do if you saw..(hypothetically) Bangladesh over-taking Australia as the dominant force in cricket? Would you change sides?

If you do, it really would not matter as you have already shown that you are a true Deshi fan for beleiveing that we will become a good team by 2010, so thanks for the support man!!

They are BanglaCricket members, and just like any other members.. nothing more or less. I have been enjoying Habibul_Fan's posting since I started visiting this forum - not because he is an Australian - but because of his witty comments. Same goes to other Australians such as fab, doorbin et al..

I believe it's not too late to introduce myself, as i got registered as a member very recently. I guess, I'm the oldest of you all ( a haggard or a murubbi, whatever it is), I crossed 50 last year.

I am a Mechanical Engineer, working in a reputed Petroleum Refinery of Kuwait National Petroleum Company as Maintenance Engineer for last ten years.

My nick Sam stands for my full name Saber Ahmed.
My location is 'sunny beach", because the complex where I live in is infront of a sunny beach on the gulf.

My love to cricket started long back in mid-sixties, when we were a test nation, and cricket was my passion (I still remember, how in the school, we used to run in the gaps between two class periods to the nearest tea-stall to get the latest test score). I used to play cricket in school and college regularly, until I left BD for higher studies to USSR in 1972. After coming back, when I joined the Fertilizer Factory in Ghorashal, I was a Factory Team member as a middle order batsman.

I count myself as one of them, who always used to dream to see Bangladesh as a test playing nation. I am for Test Cricket, not for Twenty20.
I am very much delighted to join this forum, where evrybody is optimistic and with positive approach to bd-cricket.

I'm 32 and live in Tower Hamlets, London which I like very much. Originally from Gloucestershire who I support. Annoyingly they've only become good since I moved away. Unlike Patzer's Middlesex, they're a team it's easy to like and with a good and likeable coach, Mark Alleyne.
