Aftab is as effective as everyone else, if he gets anything is the only plus point. I would suggest he be nurchured more effectively. A batsmen who can ball is always a good thing.

another record tumbles....

66.3 Talha Jubair to Dravid, no run, driven down to the mid-off region

Blah
December 17, 2004, 03:59 AM
67.6 Aftab Ahmed to Gambhir, no run, hit on the up to the cover region,
was in the air for sometime but fell well short of the fielder
67.5 Aftab Ahmed to Gambhir, no run, punched away to the cover region,
diving stop by Saleh saves runs
67.4 Aftab Ahmed to Gambhir, no run, short delivery, angling across the
left-hander, Gambhir moves back and drives it down to the mid-off
region
67.3 Aftab Ahmed to Gambhir, no run, played down to mid-off
67.2 Aftab Ahmed to Dravid, one run, good length delivery outside the
off stump, Dravid moves forward and drives it down to the long-off
region
67.1 Aftab Ahmed to Dravid, no run, punched back to the bowler at one
bounce

Blah
December 17, 2004, 04:03 AM
I feel that in this kind of wicket slow medium is more effective, that stays low and comes late to the bat. Fast bowling is just too good for the batsmen in this wicket.

vv_sunil
December 17, 2004, 04:05 AM
batsmen are taking lot of quick runs... bangladesh should take a note of this and should apply while they bat

Blah
December 17, 2004, 04:06 AM
not only quick runs, there is a lot more for bangladeshi players to learn from indian batsmen.

Rafique poor class?? No way. He is Test class. Him and Mashrafe carry Bangladesh bowling. Otherwise there will be very little resistance from the bowling department.

Beamer
December 17, 2004, 12:57 PM
Rafiq is losing his main weapon, the armer. He rarely uses it anymore. Why? I don't know. Maybe he can't bowl it anymore. Also, he is bowling way to flat. He was never a big flighter of the ball but if you want to pick up wkts, you need to give it a more air from time to time. He has become the perfect one day bowler and his records says so. He barely gives away 35 runs in 10 overs. But, in test matches, getting wkts are of premium. And in order to do that, you gotta be more courageous, specially against the Indian Batsmen who are excellent spin players. Apart from the first few overs he bowled yesterday, I didn't see him trouble the batsmen much.

BD Tigers
December 17, 2004, 01:08 PM
You guys have to understand one thing. This is the flatest pitch one can have. I think they shud have made it with concrete instead of clay. Well i dont want to blame the groundsmen because our BCB wanted the pitch that way. So its not bowlers fault. Dhaka pitch was more sporting than this one. There is nothing into for bowlers.

Well now when BD starts batting, same pitch will look totally different because of inability of our batsmen. I hope the openers/1st down play down the first 10 overs and take shine off. If they can do that, I am pretty sure BD can score good runs too.

bangalee
December 17, 2004, 01:36 PM
it's a very flat wicket no qs about that but BD bowlers Nazmul, Rana, Talha and Rafique, all bowled very bad.

======== Bowling analysis =================

Talha -- was feeding the batsmen on the right slot and asking to get hit. Too many loose balls in every over

Nazmul -- 1st 2 spells where horrible but in last spell he looked little better

Rana -- No turn at all. Most of the time he was short and wide. You knwo what happens then

Rafique -- Bowled few good overs but most of the time he was struggling with his line (May just tired)

Mashrafee --- Wow what a bowler!! Tried everything he could except the last few overs in the match. He constantly pitched the ball towards leg and got hit. Overall the best bowler of the day

======== Fielding analysis =================

Fielding in general was good specially the ground fielding. Quite a few great stops were made :)

Field placement was HORRIBLE. India scorde 128 runs from the cover region with 24 boundaires!! Can you beleive that? Little repositioning of the cover fielder coould have saved at least 30-40 odd runs. On top of that the batsmen had to rethink before playing with open face of the bat for a cover drive.

Overall dravid and gautam batted beautifully, equally our bowlers and field placement supported them.

Cricinfo quotes like this... what kind of attitude is this

With the exception of Mashrafe Mortaza – who toiled manfully again with wretched back-up – Mohammad Ashraful and Habibul Bashar, when not in Happy Hooker mode, no-one in this Bangladesh team would be invited to carry drinks for a Pura Cup side, or even a top-notch Ranji Trophy outfit.

---- what a moron

bangalee
December 17, 2004, 01:51 PM
cricinfo continues ..

Records have tended to fall like weary ninepins whenever Bangladesh have played, and if today's misadventure was any indicator, that unwelcome trend shows no sign of abating. Commitment and effort are all very well, and patience is certainly required, but more than anything else, they need a Sathasivam or a Mendis.

Fazal
December 17, 2004, 05:08 PM

you're right....you should not even post this. this is so familiar scene that I have no feeling and especially in Chittagong, BD captains have always waited for the opponent to declare.

Nazmul is a little kid. This is why other countries have First class cricket league. Kids like Nazmul have ZERO first class experience and we pretty much get them out of pre-school and send them out to play professionals. It's one way to learn but in some cases, the effect of such brutal punishment could leave permanent negative marks in their psyche.

Blah,

I have played enough cricket to know one thing - A fielder will definitely know in such a case whether he should appeal or not.

If Laxman didn't ask for replay, it because he is not an Australian and we still trust BD fielders.

It's one thing to appeal for caught-behind and another one to appeal on a catch that's not a catch really.
