Hannan dazzles

Opener Hannan Sarker cracked a thumping half-century to guide the World Cup bound national cricket team to a comprehensive seven-wicket victory against the combined National League XI at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) in Saver yesterday.

The 45-over-contest turned into a mismatch when Hannan and his more experienced partner Al-Shahriar produced 106 runs in only 16.3 over in response to a fighting combined National League XI total of 171.

The national team raced to 174 for three in only 27.5 overs.

Hannan took the new-ball pair of Anwar Hossain Munir and Hasibul Hossain to the sword to score a 55-ball 65 that included thirteen boundaries.

Al-Shahriar scored 48 off 65 balls with the help of nine fours.

Tushar Imran scored an unbeaten 34 after Munir dismissed Hannan and Mohammed Ashraful in the space of three deliveries.

Alok Kapali finished off the chase in style hitting a magnificent six off young leg-spinner Arif over extra cover. Kapali scored a cameo 19 off 11 balls.

Earlier, the combined XI total was built around a defiant 45 by opener Nafis Iqbal and an enterprising 42-ball 31from left-arm spinner Manjarul Islam.

Young right-arm paceman Talha Jubair, who bowled with a lot of fire, captured three wickets for 34 runs in his eight overs. Experienced all-rounder Khaled Mahmud, left-arm spinner Mohammed Rafique and Ashraful took two wickets each.

It was the first practice match for the World Cup bound team, who will fly off to Namibia on January 10 for a two-week camp.

National League XI: 171 all out in 45 overs (Nafis 45, Ehsanul 1, Anwar 18, Mazharul 36, Manjarul 31, Sabbir 12; Talha 3/34, Rafique 2/17, K Mahmud 2/18, Ashraful 2/32)

National Team: 174 in 27.5 overs (Hannan 65, Al-Shahriar 48, Ashraful 0, Tushar Imran 34 not out, Alok 19 not out; Munir 2/40, Hasibul 1/48)

Result: National Team won by 7 wickets.

Mashrafe did not play in that match. I am afraid he will be short of match practice during the world cup.
