any predictions on what we can expect on the 3rd Day?

TigerFan
January 7, 2005, 06:51 PM
Well, yesterday I had predicted that Bd would score over 500 and they didn't. So, I'll not predict today.

TigerFan
January 7, 2005, 06:53 PM
But, I'll say that we need 2 or 3 wickets early.

Kana-Baba
January 7, 2005, 07:26 PM
My prediction is Masakadja mamu will go for a century and Zim will avoid follow on.

But I will be happy if I were proven wrong. Personally I would like to get an innings defeat for zimbo and would love to see Rafique driving a brand new car in Keraniganj.:joy:

Bat-PadTogether
January 7, 2005, 07:39 PM
If we take couple of wickets in the morning session,we are in the driving seat.Lets hope the pitch starts to turn and keep the low bounce.Masakadja
is a solid batsman.Dont forget Taibu!!! a great fighter!!!

SunmAn
January 7, 2005, 07:51 PM
Target 6 more wickets in 40ov. Zimbos will follow on and we'll have a chance to beat 'em by six seven wickets if not innings defeat!!!!!!:fanflag:

i dont think we can take 16 wickets today...btw, i have a cricket question?

does each day of a test start with a new ball? i know that each innings in an ODI starts with a new ball, otherwise it would be unfair.

Because in Bangladesh allrounder means half-rounder -- little bit of batting and little bit of bowling. Masri, Rafiq and Taposh are fullrounder. We need both their bowling and batting!!

I am not very much sure whether Bashar will enforce the follow on to Zim. As BD bowlers as well as fielders are tired of fielding now. Masri did not bowl well yesterday may be because he just finished his batting that time. He needed to be rested and come back with his concentration. One thing may be like we make quick lead of 475+ and ask them to bat again???

What will be your opinion???

al Furqaan
January 8, 2005, 12:47 AM
session drawn...masri came back with a vengence took 2 for hardly and runs...but taibu and taylor did very well for zims, biggest partnership of the innings of 66.

bangalee
January 8, 2005, 12:49 AM
It's a very tricky call for Bashar.....

1) Say Zim get bowled out aroun 240-250 means BD will have 250 runs lead

2) If BD enforces follow on with tired bowlers, fielders then let's say Zim scores 350-400 runs in the 2nd innings (best case)

3) So Bd will chase 160-170 runs most in the last day which should be the BEST case for BD

So let's enforce follow on

Tehsin
January 8, 2005, 01:17 AM
If we get follow on - not taking it would be an ultimate bad decision. I won't be too worried about the bowlers being tired as they have toiled for plenty of overs inpretty uch every single match they played. Bowling the full day is nothing for them. As for Zimbabwe, once following on, they will still have to cover 200+ runs to make us back again. That could create additional pressure for this inexperienced side.

Actually you know what, we don't have any good fifth bowler. If you see, itz only Masri, rafique, enamul and taposh. We should've have rana instead of Aftab. I'm not taking rajin's name because he scored very well Alhamdulillah. What do u think?

I second with you. rana and Rafique is same type of bowling so no need of RANA and this game we played very well. Aftab is almost confirmed for his position in next few games. And now Basher can try with part time bowlers like Afatb/rajin or even ash

Zimbabweans playing defensively that is why we're not getting any more wickets easily. ONly thing is to put them into frustration. That can lead to more wickets.

TigerFan
January 8, 2005, 01:59 AM
They're not taking risks. So we should not give them any more runs either. We have to increase the pressure on batsmen, which rafique is doing Alhamdulillah 100% by making few maiden overs.

mafizraju
January 8, 2005, 02:00 AM
i think our spinner specially jr. is bowling too many arm ball. they are too eager to pick up wickets so using their deadlies weapon again again and again.......which become repetetive and the batemen can predict the delivery. should use special weapon on on special way

mafizraju
January 8, 2005, 02:02 AM
tiger fan .... in test you dont want a fake all rounder........rana is effective no doublt in one days. but in test not taking aftab means not taking one batsman.......one top off that aftab is one batsman and a half bowler where as rana is a half bowler and a half batsman........... whats the use of that in test..........just to do some backup overs....in that case we got enough backups

See how difficult it is for us to get the lower order out? This is why I have said that we need a good specialist leg spinner, even 5 or 6 left arm spinners won't do the job of a good leg spinner, doesn't matter how good those left arm spinners are.

Tea

We must take the new ball now after this tea break and try our best to see if our pacers can do something about getting those wickets.

Because in one word, our spinners, Rafique included, is not doing anything at the moment. Sure, there is some balls turning viciously and staff, but none of them (any of the turning balls) have taken any wicket.

fwullah

fwullah, what kind of field placing does Bashar have?

At this stage of the game, it all depends on who the batsman is and who the bowler is.

For example, when Rafique is bowling, there's 1 slip, silly point, and a few other catchings on the off side, but when Rajin was bowling, there were way too many fielders on the deep right on the edge of the boundary line.

When Enamul Junior was bowling, there was some protection on the off side.

There haven't been too many forward short leg fielders in the whole match today, except for a few occassions.

All in all, its an average field as we see generally see in tests - nothing too fancy.

shaheen
