Why can't they just start the play now. With 7 wickets to go, it'll take a few hours to finish. I'm afraid, I'm going to go thru another sleepless night.

I am pretty much sure Bangladesh is going to spank Zimb's *** this time unless the weather saves them.

Chinaman might be selfish, but you said that he opened the luck thread against India 2nd ODI. Equally, we are expecting same luck again today.

Weather is pretty good in this time of year. So there is no chance of interruption of game due to weather.

I only talk differently because Bangladesh has caused me one heart attack too many in the past and my brain refuses to deal with the trauma anymore. If they win, and I believe this may prove to be a big "if" then perhaps it will heal some of the wounds and I will once again give my all for this team. But right now, I will remain cautious and see how the drama unfolds

cmon u guys! dont be so impatient. of course BD bowlers wnat Zim to score freely, thats how they can get wicket. I dont think Rafique meant to give that many runs away but the idea is to give some loose balls to ge the batsman out of their shell and then try to get them out. if this strategy doesnt work they will chaneg field position again and tighten things up. The game just started.

What BD players need to do is to breath deeply and play it calm, if we give Zim the moral edge then they will get more confident.
All we need to remember i sthat this game is our's too win, it's juat a matter of how easy we make it for our selves.
cluster11
January 9, 2005, 11:48 PM
This was a great psychological wicket also. I think Taibu instructed the batsman to go out and play like u are 9-down, since the target was so great. They did exactly that and Bashar tried things that didn't work early on. But as I said, they cannot continue at this rate when the target is so far away. And its good he didn't get half-century. Its important to get another wicket but also important to reign in this batsman. Try a lot of appeals and basically play agressive psychological cricket. I think we can break through again.

great show by Enamul. Zim tried to psyche us out by pinch hitting. We strike back now with hidden weapon - the junior spins! :great: . Chigumbara however is a big hitter. We need to get one of these guys out in the next 15-20 overs to have a comfortable edge.

You try to win in 5th day by playing strokes, you run out of wkts.

today is the day they need all the support and they have the best chance ever to win and now you all r talking diff.
Samiur, I have followed your threads on this site and I have much respect for your cricketing insights. However, I do feel you are being a bit too pessimistic.
Just take a look at the scores. 46/3 at the begining of the last day with 380 to score. What would a knowledgeable person like you say the chances were ? Leaving aside Bradman at Leeds 1948 and Atherton at Jo'berg, by and large, such heroic efforts are few and far between. Normally, the bowling side should win in , say, at least 80% of the occasions.
I know you will say that this is not normal. The words "Bangladesh" and "first" come into play ! Agreed ! But also the current Zimbabwe side comes into play as well. That makes it "normal" again.
In heroic fourth innings efforts I missed out on the two Indian 400+ innings'. Particularly, the one against the West Indies in 1976. Gavaskar and Vishwanath both scoring 100s.
Another heroic one, strictly speaking not a 4th innings' , but a last innings nonetheless, was Hanif's 337.

Enamul will soon be able to remove the Jr (junior) out of his name. While I enjoyed watching good old Enamul haque Moni play for BD, I think Enamul Haque Junior will be a more effective bowler, moni was more of a container. We do have quite a few players who will be able to pull us thru when Rafique retires in a few years. A spinner can play in a team for a long long time. Rafique can probably play until he is 37-39, depending on his physical ability and his personal goal.

Samiur, have no fear ! The match is going along classical 5th day of a test line, particularly in the sub-continent. Previously, we heard and marvelled at names like Gupta, Patel, Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrasekhar et al. Parvez Sajjad, Qader from Pakistan. Now add Enamul. Rafique is a different sort of bowler.
Ever since I saw him against England at Dhaka, I was a great fan of this tall [ by our standards ] , langly. loopy left arm spinner. I have always wondered why he was not an automatic selection for test matches.
Today, we could be receiving our first dividend !

The selectors do deserve some backslapping. This is possibly Bangladesh's best combination. I am not entirely convinced about Rajin and Omar. But, after Rajin's 82 against India in the third ODI, he has probably realised that defending like a maniac was not the best tactic. Somewhere between his previous strategy and Habibul Bashar's equally bizarre strategy is probably the best strategy for Rajin as well as for Ashraful, who is a much better class of batsman.
Ashraful's needs to practice his bowling a little as well. I would wish to see Kapali in sooner than later. Purely, as a batsman.
Mashrafe's return has rejuvenated the side. Confidence breeds success !
We can also take five bowlers as well since Mashrafe, Tapash and Rafique are all decent batsmen.
