My 2 cents about this test is that Bangladesh will do well if it can build a substantial 1st innings total, as it did in the first test. In fact, what distinguished Bangladesh's performance in the first test from our usual performance is that we built an innings of 488. This task--of building a substantial innings (of 450+ runs)--is where Bangladesh usually falters. If we can overcome this hurdle, then we have a chance of winning. If not, I fear for the result.

I hope our batsmen are up to the task.

well we nafis, javed, aftab, ashraful, habib, khaled, and Rajin one them has to shine in the matter of probability then we have masrafe rafique and tapash.

Target top 3 (iqbal, omar, bashar) Only a mere 130 runs
Target Middle Order (Ash, Rajin, Aftab) 150 runs.
Masud, rafique, mashrafe, tapash 100
Enamul and extras 25

Traget 405 runs
If zim get 300

then we get 100 run lead and try bowl zim out for 220 then only 121 to chase not bad hah

We need to clean up the tail first, this could be tougher than it sounds.

sham1980
January 14, 2005, 09:46 PM
yes we need to get one of the overnigt guys out then the rest should be easy whilst the other one watchesz

Zimbabwe has been playing very very carefully. A quick lok at the way they handled Rafique (36-13-48-0) shows the respect they have for him. It also shwos their determination - these guys are not going to go down without a fight. I wish it was a more sporting wicket. It's been hard getting thru their dogged defense in this dead pitch.

Tehsin
January 14, 2005, 09:55 PM
With all due respect to their fighting spirits - Zimbabwe should be bundled out for under 300. Can we do it ? :)

PoorFan
January 14, 2005, 10:10 PM
If Zim scores around 300, then it will be very hard to BD to take a lead of 100.
So we have to keep the run rate low as possible bowl the out as early as possible.
We may start bowling with Mashree & Enamul and Tapash & Rafique pair.

We have to bat defensive and make every partnership around 50, then play bit aggressive.
We should not take any possible runout risk and should not get out back to back
which let Zim bowlers dominate on us.

We are still in the game and hope we will take the full control of the game soon.

this is not like the case with india where you beat them once and they well hit you hard with 348 the next match...

these zimbabwean team is changed totally compared to the original team.......thanks to uncle mugabe....so you dont expect to put up a stronger fighting spirit

but anyway, its more like watching bangladesh A vs bangladesh national team playing test....the quality of zimbabwe cricket has dropped to that level after they kicked the whites out of their team

Yes, thanks to Uncle Mugabe 11 proud Africans are representing their team, and on the rise, as it should have always been.

We should remember our best players from the 60s and stop for a second to think what they went through before hurling stuff at Mugabe.

Just think of it like this..Blacks could not even play for their country...and the Whites could play for Zim, England, Australia....even though only one was technically their country.

January 15, 2005, 12:19 AM
enamul is more of a wicket taker than rafique. although rafiq is a better bowler all around...but enamul's turn and flight makes him more aggressive of the two. while rafique's supremely contained bowling makes the batsmen edgy and they make mistakes.

it's good to see BD batting sensibly, Zim batting was kinda like how we'd bat against better teams. Start off really agressivly and then tame away. Since we have the upper hand our batsmen are more patient knowing that Zim bowlers are bound to gibe bad balls to hit for 4. It;s all about mind set, I hope our batsmen can carry this frame of mind when they face tough oppositions.

This pitch has been offering invariable low bounce from day one. Cutting is very dangerous on such a pitch. Golla went after that short wide one and only edged behind. Its difficlut to play that shot when the pitch is acting funny. My worry for Bashar is : That is his other favorite shot besides pull!

i think the batsmen are struggling:

look at these:

27.5 Panyangara to Habibul Bashar, no run, short and wide, was a slower
ball, cuts and misses

26.3 Hondo to Rajin Saleh, no run, pitches on middle stump and again
swings in, tries to play across the line, another shout for lbw,
ball is missing leg stump

26.1 Hondo to Mohammad Ashraful, OUT: full ball, swings into the right
hander, hits on the pad in front of off stump, huge shout for lbw,
up goes the finger, Hondo Strikes

25.3 Panyangara to Habibul Bashar, no run, short in length, outside off,
keeps low, cuts and misses

24.4 Hondo to Habibul Bashar, no run, full ball, swings into the right
hander in the air, tries to defend it, gets the inner edge to leg
side

24.2 Hondo to Habibul Bashar, no run, again swinging delivery, on leg
stump, tries to play at it, misses it and hits on the pad

23.2 Panyangara to Mohammad Ashraful, no run, good ball, pitches outside off and swings away, plays and misses

22.2 Hondo to Habibul Bashar, no run, full ball, swings in, inside edge
onto pads and also hits him outside off stump, shout for lbw,
declines

21.3 Panyangara to Mohammad Ashraful, no run, good ball, outside off and
swings away, plays and misses
