View Full Version : 2nd test comments: What a NOSEDIVE!

Lets talk a bit about the NOSEDIVE by our squad.. what may hav caused it?:-/
IMMATURITY... I would say!
Complacency.. no doubt!!
They expected a walkover .. forgot the hard work they had to do to build the huge 488 in first test out of utter satisfaction..!!
And when they faced hardship this time.. they just collapsed mentally.. coz they were expecting it to be EASY!
BD is playing this match still in a kind of SPELL from the first test win..
And when Extreme Confidence turns into Extreme Shocker.. it takse a bit long to come back from that!!...
Can BD recollect themselves in the 2nd Innings??.. maybe not to win it.. rather to SAVE the series?? :-/

Well Bashar did mention something of a blackout for 3 minutes right. Did anyone ask around about the others? No, our batting still needs a fix. Things are not going to be allright after afew good runs and in this respect DAve needs to realign the team objectives.

well...Bangladesh's performance in the remainder of this test will show what sort of stuff they are made of! Lets hope for the best.

By the looks of it Mashrafee was getting himself ready for a long stay at the crease. I wish him, Tapash and Junior the best of the luck with the bat. Hope they perform to their fullest potential.

Lets just pray that inshallah in the 2nd innings we make a fight back... hopefully what is left of our batsmen in the 1st innings can put up a good fight, inshallah... it aint over till its over!!!

Tomorrow we will know how much Bangladesh has actually improved, and how much a win has helped our self belief. In the first Test, once the toss was won, we just had avoid making mistakes. Here the match is far from lost, but it takes real guts to fight back. It is an opportunity for the BD team to test itself, than a disaster.

Idealy:
we need to make 220 in quick time.
2. Bowl zim out under 200...
chase 250 odd...and WIN.
But thats the best case, 250 is still a tough last innings chase..

Very encouraging comment.
Hope BD take this opportunity to prove themselves improving test nation. Good luck.

The main problem with BD batting remains inconsistancy. Most of the players talk abt it but surely they don't understand it. Look at Ashraful for instance. After his 158* he played quite a few matches and didn't score much.

I hope our tailenders can take us to 230+. Then our plan would be to bowled out Zimb. before they get anywhere near to 250 in the second innings. And Baisya must BOWL! So, our target will be around 318-320, I hope our boys can do it! Wishing the boys all the best. :flag:

Everybody's forgetting that it's cricket. A bad day like today may happen. Complemency definately was a reason for today's poor show, but we have to forget that and do our best in rest of the match. This match is far from over, if tommow morning Mashree/Taposh/Enamul can score 50+ runs, then we will be there will be very good chance for us to win the match.

Bad times r probably ahead!

True that our top order has failed in the 1st innings but the situation is not as if there are no hopes. I'm sure our batsmen are capable of a comeback in the 2nd innings. Our bowling is working great (we have had them all-out in the three previous innings). This match is far from over - please be patient.

Positives from the first two days:
:fanflag:Lost the toss, still played well to take out 6 Zimbabwean wickets on a very batting friendly pitch on the first day.
:fanflag:Bowled extremely well to book them below 300, a psychological blow to Zimbabwe.Enamul reached a new personal best. He recorded a new Bangladesh best in the process. An amazing feat.
:fanflag:Rafique touched another personal mark with yet another Test fifty. Our number seven batsman came in and rebuilt the innings at the time of trouble.
:fanflag:We have 3 whole days left to correct the problems and get yet another Test win.
Forget the pessimism. We have broken down many barriers and working on more.

The comments are either unbelievably optimistic or , in other threads, highly pessimistic.
Unlike many others, I do believe that we are indeed a weak team but Zimbabwe are even weaker. There is no point shouting that we have arrived when we aptently have not arrived anywhere, at least, nowhere near our destination !
This is what I hope: We score about 220. Mashrafe has to be slightly more attacking. I feared at the end of today that his too- defensive attitude might actually result in a dismissal, particularly caught and bowled or a catch to short cover or short mid-wicket. Fortunately, that did not happen but we probably lost about 10 runs. He was patting back full tosses which without taking risks could at least have been driven along the ground.
We restrict Zimbabwe also within 220 , therefore giving us a target circa 300. This would be a 4th day chase going into the fifth day. Difficult but not impossible.
Bearing, in mind, their lack of quality spin, Cremer and Masakadza, this should be achievable. Hondo got good swing. But this could be because of the ball. Some balls swing more than others. Hopefully, the second innings' ball will be less swing-friendly. There is nothing in the pitch to worry about that much. It will have deteriorated somewhat but not excessively so.
In theory, we are supposed to have the batting to combat the "weakest bowling" in test cricket. Not my words !

It will be comparable to the defeat against Canada in 2003 WC.
Anything except victory against this Zimbabwe team is disgraceful. I hope our players will give their 100% and save the team from such disaster.

no i'm not. bcos i'll never again scream "TIGERS TIGERS!!" in the stands. i joined when i heard abt this forum from the bbc article after the maiden test win. and check my prev posts if u care. i didnt say stuff like "TIGERS have come back!!! now i support bd cricket team just bcos it represents my country, not bcos of the team. take a note. this is quite significant. and i know that there r many who feel the same way.
p.s. i've seen people making fun of bd cricket team, making fun of their nick "TIGERS" - infront of me. and u dont know how i it makes me feel in those situations.

man everyone chill out...i am neither optimistic or pessimistic...i am a realist. bangladesh are not yet where the other 8 test nations are...they may be a whole generation away. however, if the current team plays up to potential, they can be a competetive side
this match against ZIM may well be a lost cause, but we can still win if we fight. if, tapash, and masri can score and take us to 200, we will be down 100, if hondo took 5, masri and tapash should be able to hold ZIM under 150, along with enam. chasing 250 is possible, remember Multan? winning from here will be difficult, and since there are 3 days left and really only 2 innings left, a draw is outta the question. there will be a result, only question is will it be bangladesh or zim.
perhaps the 2nd innings is where ashraful will shine. give our batsmen a break. they just collapsed. if nafis and JO played well, why not the others. they were either complacent, or delrious from winning and enam's feat. they now need to return to the post-158 mentality.
rafiq
January 15, 2005, 10:35 PM
ZIm bowlers will start with Hondo again and see if they can clean up. A new ball is also about an hour away. So it's going to be tricky no matter what. I agree with the comment that staying in a shell is more dangerous because no runs are scored and our bats got out anyway. Hopefully Tapash and Mashrafee can put in a disciplined performance and last till lunch - a very bug ask for them. 225 would be awesome.
We haven't seen Enamul bat lately - he may have a few more things to offer, let's see!

OK... this is now tricky for us... we HAVE to get Taibu out ASAP tomorrow and bowl the rst of them out quickly as well. Bangladesh has achived 1 good innings and 2 bad innings in batting in this series so far. What is the difference between the good and the bad? In the Good one... we batted VERY slowly... in the other two... we tried to slog/were over confidence. Tomorrow Bangladesh must therefore bat slowly... if we can do that... we can still inshallah win/draw this match

We have a big question, can our players play for five sessions to snatch the win or at least a draw? How do you think guys?
Upal
January 16, 2005, 12:48 PM
a draw is out of the question unless it rains. This match will definitely have a result and right now I give zimbabwe a 80% chance of winning this match.
Bangladesh needs to restrict zimbabwe's lead to below 350 and go from there. Ash and Bashar both need to come through with 100's or atleast big half centuries. The rest of the batsmen need to stick around and all contribute 30-40 runs each. I think Rajin Saleh will be a big key to our chase. He needs to come in and anchor the innings...just stick around like Taibu and runs will come. I don't think we have any other batsmen who are capable of doing that, with the possible exception of Pilot. All in all, this will be a daunting task, but if we can do it against anybody, it has to be against Zimbabwe, the team with the "weakest bowling" in the world.
One more thing, what's with our problems facing medium pacers with dreadlocks? First it was against Canada and Austin Codrington and now its Douglas Honda of Zimbabwe.

Frankly speaking... the only way for BD's escape with a series win now.. is playing almost 'Negative-Cricket'!! :duh:
If u try to winn reaching this fairly big lead.. u make another NOSEDIVE, probably getting yourself out below 200 once more!!
--->Reputation: "Amazing ZIM's Defeates BD!"
If you sustain for 4/5 Sessions n score about 250+ runs.. the series is 1-0 for BD...

Why we all are taking Zim as street cricketer. For God sake, they are test playing nation. Of course their bowling line is strong. We can't expect that our batsmen will click every day. That's not the cricket way. I hope BD comes back in 2nd innings
