Inzy is hammering them... 300 looks easy right now.

Sultan
February 1, 2005, 12:37 AM
ahhhhhhh.. Inzy bold out on a slower ball on a length, Inzamam tried to slog it through the on side, ball came in through the bat/pad gap

Inzy departs on 74 runs off 67 balls.. a good captain's knock.

Run a ball takes us to 270. A little bit of extra effort could take the score to 300 easily. Getting a 300 would be excellent, because, would help boost team morale (after the false rape allegations), and it would also help in putting pyschological pressure on the West Indies.

we need chokkay rite now, these two's and one's are irritating!

i would've preffered afridi to come in, instead of razzaq.

West Indies nerve failed in the last seven overs of their innings when they had the match under control. Here is to hope that Pakistan will continue their resurgence against Australia in the finals as well.

Well, your intuition proved to be wrong. Pakistan won the game. Excellent piece of batting by the Pakistani side, and good piece of bowling which totally out classed the west indies.

Yousuf Youhana century and a late West Indies batting collapse combined to give Pakistan a place in the tri-series one-day cricket final against Australia.

Man of the match Yousuf's 105 from just 100 balls helped Pakistan reach an impressive 8-307 from its 50 overs at the WACA, with the West Indies managing 277 from 48.1 overs in reply.

Pakistan, which inflicted the first defeat on Australia in the competition at the WACA on Sunday, will now meet the world champions in a best-of-three decider starting at the MCG on Friday.

Yousuf produced a 134-run fourth-wicket stand with captain Inzamam-ul-Haq (74 from 67) as Pakistan recorded the second highest one-day total ever at the WACA.

The all-time mark is 309 by the West Indies against Sri Lanka in 1984, while only five teams have bettered the 300-run mark in 56 one-dayers in Perth.

The West Indies were on track to nudge the 21-year-old record when Ramnaresh Sarwan (87) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (58) took the score to 3-194 after 32.5 overs.

But they lost 7-83 to spoil their finals hopes.

Their lower order attempted to reproduce last year's ICC Champions Trophy final heroics, when Courtney Browne and Ian Bradshaw compiled a 71-run ninth wicket stand for an unlikely win over England at The Oval.

The pair did come together at 7-257 still requiring 51 runs for victory, but a fourth-ball duck by Bradshaw gave Pakistan the last laugh.

Brian Lara's men end the triangular competition with just one win and one no result from six matches.

Yousuf stroked nine boundaries in his stylish knock, while Inzamam had a welcome return to form after a tour blighted by injury and poor form.

The Pakistan skipper missed two of the three Tests against Australia with a back complaint, but he managed 10 fours in an important knock that bodes well for the tri-series final.

Bradshaw was the pick of the West Indian bowlers, finishing with 3-47 from his 10 overs, but they often struggled to find the right line.

The Windies bowlers conceded 19 wides in their 27 sundries, the third highest individual score from the Pakistan innings behind Yousuf and Inzamam.

Lara's team will head home for some soul-searching after an ultimately poor series, while Pakistan will prepare for the final which will be held in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide (if required).

By the way, I posted this thread as soon as the match started. Its not like I'm the "Oracle" and I could predict if Pakistan is going to win, so I'd start a thread. Since this was a decider match, I started up the thread as soon as the game began. Pakistan lost a couple of early wickets, I could've shut down the thread then, but didn't! why ? because this was a decider match!

Don't get over excited and carried away by recent wins. Cricket is a game of uncertainity. I am sure, die hard supporters donot want to be frustrated later on.

Yup, I could say the same for Bangladeshi cricket as well. Don't be too optimistic on winning against Zimbabwe, as it might cause some serious frustrations in the future, and could be hazardous for your health! :)

I think that chasing was a better option by all means.
WI's bowler have have little success against pakistan. Collins doesnt have a single wicket against pakistan in 3 matches, yet he has 8 againt aus in 3 matches.
Also Pakistan's bowling has not been good either, so batting is the strong point for each team.
The 2 tosses that pak won, inzi sent WI in for batting. Lack of bowlers make it easy to chase big totals.
280 was chased like it was nothing.
340 was a good total, but still the losing team scored a good 280.
I am sure, in this situation anyone would have chased.
And it was a good secision too. The match was theirs, had it not been the awesome bowling of rana.
So far i havent seen anybody bowl better in the tourney then rana was in the last match. He was swingin at 145 kmph, and got injured as well. He limped back to pavillion and came limping back to finish the overs(unlike some bowlers we know) and got 2 more wickets. The PBC praised his effort a lot as well. He was the difference between WI and pak in the last match.
