BCB declares cash reward for heroes

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday rewarded the victorious Bangladesh team for their brilliant Test and ODI series sweep against Zimbabwe.

"We have decided to award Tk 3 lakhs to cricketers who had featured in both the series (Test and ODI). Those who were part of the squad in one series will get half of that amount," said Reazuddin Al Mamun, BCB advisor and chairman of the media committee.

Mamun added that coach Dav Whatmore, physio Robbie Hunt and trainer Stuart Karppinen will also receive Tk 3 lakh each while manager MA Latif Khan and computer analyst Nasir Ahmed will get 1.5 lakh Taka.

yeah...there is saloon named Prince Saloon which is situated in Panthapath they said after ICC 97 that they will give free hair cut to all the cricketers for free.

I heard that some of the players went there for quite a few days.

This is no salary raise. This is "tips", and it's bad.

Do you think a employee in a company and a cricket player is the same ?

I don't like the socialist policy of tipping them all (regardless of their performance). They should have the guts to identify and reward only the highest performers only or at-least reward them based on their performance. Basically they rewarded Rana and Alok same amount. Where is the justice?

nop this is not bad at all. It's very common everywhere. After last world cup I remember both Aussi and Indian players got this kind of cash rewards from their cricket boards. Even last year all the indian players got cash awards after their successfull Pak tour.

They should be given such rewards at the end of the season! If you give them money like this- they're unlikely to strive to get better!

they won the series so they got bonus. they deserves it.

They deserve it...The board did the right thing to announce the awards after the series was successfully over...There will only be one first ever test victory...first ever test series victory...and first ever ODI series victory...Evrything about this series was historic...

People who are saying against the bonus are simply jealous. Doesnt matter what Alok did or not, he did same amount of hardship like others. It was a total team game so everybody deserves the bonus.

PS: I am going home next week. At least I will be able to get the "mishty" from Nasu bhai.

Good observation. Talha got same as Rana as well! I dont see the logic behind this. Guy winning 2 MOM award for memorable performance is now equivalent to someone who did not even play. Javed playing 2 hard fought tests is equivalent to Alok Kapali's 1 miserable ODI performance?

Its like some people commented "oh Rana? Yeah he did more than I expected. 2 MOM? He was lucky!" And Alok? He is a super talented genius batsman, so matter how he performs, bring him sack load of awards and money for his talent label, make him 6th batsman. Er nam Kopal!!

I hope they kept individual bonuses for individul milestone or extra ordinary performances, otherwise I also dont see justice either! Because then, all Alok needs to do is be on the team, and with this kopal, he will.

YUP! That was the end of a tremendous season for Bangladesh, and the boys deserve this reward to acknowledge their efforts. This is perfectly fine. The players of current BD team have a much more mature and more professional mentality and they wont stay up on the moon, they are right down on earth, and they know what is going on.

Plus, this money will help to stabilize the financial situation of many players in the team, like Enamul Jr, who has the responsibility of his entire family on his shoulder.

Rana got his bonus rewards in the prize that he received as the MOM in two games. And you cant calculate the money according to how many games u played n how much you performed. Wouldnt giving more money to one player than another, because he played better than the other, look silly ? Cant be that rational always.

I agree 100% with Pompous on this one.
We need our players to have absolute dedication to be like world class cricketers.

Folks, we just won our first Test and ODI Series after 100+ games. This Team deserve the money and the inspiration that comes with it.

Some people forget that cricket is a team sport and when a team wins, you reward everyone who is a part of that team. Its one thing announcing cash prizes for certain milestone beforehand, like fastest 50, first 100 or whatever. But how can you decide who gets what after the series is over? Its ridiculous. The point is to reward the team, not to pick out individuals. So this is like a lump sum to the test and odi teams, divided by the number of players. Its the only fair way of doing it. Or would one of you rather sit there and try to decide whether Rana's 15 in the 4th ODI was more important or Bashar's 33 when the game was already won in the 5th ODI?

One thing you have to notice is that each member of the team is equally important to everyone else. So what if Alok gets the same amount of cash as Rana. They both played hard and in the end the entire team's work landed them the ODI and Test Series wins. Anyway, if I was on the team and won like 8% of my games I would want a reward very badly after the wins. And if I was rewarding the cricket players why not include a free waxing along with the free haircut. ;)

3 lakh or 10 lakh, what actually counts is the apprciation from the board. Also, what is the best motivation of all? Money (it's a crime...)!

In Australia, top performers are given bonuses as part of the salary package. The more good performances throughout teh year, the higher the bonus. Also, these bonuses are not publicised. I think they don;t make a big deal of it because, firstly, it's not in the aussie spirit to boast about your paycheck (ie. humbleness), and also it gives the players the wrong motivation to perform well. If it is kept 'in-house', then the reward is not given as much importance...

Having said that, showing to the public the financial rewards of being a good performing cricketer also motivates youngsters to play the game, and assures them that a career in cricket is financially rewarding.
