DUBAI Mohammed Sharif knocked holes into the tentative Emirates Cricket Board batting line-up with a fiery spell of six for 24 as the visiting Bangladesh A team won their opening one-day game by eight wickets at the Sharjah Stadium on Wednesday night.

The right-arm fast medium bowler, who made his Test and one-day international debut against Zimbabwe during the 2000-1 season, bowled with great enthusiasm and fire, giving the ECB batsmen a torrid time on the crease.

The ECB team, batting first, were bowled out for just 132 in 40 overs with Rashid Khan providing the only worthwhile resistance to the Bangladesh bowlers, who all maintained tidy line and length.

Rashid made 42 off 76 balls with three fours and two sixes, but lacked the much-needed support from rest of the batsmen who all appeared a bit rusty.

Sharif, who took the early wickets for Mohammed Taskeen (3) and Fahad Usman (13) hastened the end of the ECB innings, running through the lower order batsmen, almost without raising a sweat.

The ECB team, which will be playing in the ICC Trophy in Ireland later this year, needed a good partnership to lend some respectability to their score, but their batsmen had no answer to the spot-on Bangladesh attack.

Sharif, who did most of the damage, was well supported by Shakib Al Hassan and Mahmud Riyad, both sharing three wickets.

The Bangladesh team, here to fine tune their skills ahead of their Zimbabwe tour, lost their opener Shamsu Rahman for one, but Nafees Ahmed and Tushar Imran feasted on the threadbare ECB attack and ensured a comfortable victory with almost 13 overs to spare.

Nafees slammed 55 off 91 balls with six fours before he ran himself out while Tushar Imran remained not out 52 off 90 balls with three fours in the company of Raqaib Al Hassan (17).
