From an MCC Press Release

Date: Monday 7th February 2005. Release time: immediate

Four MCC Young Cricketers will fly to Bangladesh this week to take part in the Connecting Futures Cricket Carnival, which begins in Dhaka on Saturday.

The Carnival involves a week-long tournament between six local teams. Each side comprises members of the Bangladesh U-17 / U-19 High Performance squad and one overseas player. Every team will play five games during the week and, on non-match days, the players will visit underprivileged areas and schools, at which they will help to arrange cricket matches.

On completion of the match phase, each of the MCC Young Cricketers will, for an additional two days, stay with a Bangladeshi family to gain further experience of the indigenous culture.

The four MCC Young Cricketers taking part are Daan van Bunge, Shaun O'Brien, Andrew Colquhoun and Simon Roberts. Furthering strengthening the links between MCC and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the BCB will be sending a player to join the Young Cricketers at Lord's for the 2005 season.

MCC's Head of Cricket, John Stephenson, said:

"We are delighted to have been asked to take part in this initiative, and I am sure that our Young Cricketers will find it immensely rewarding.

It is a fantastic opportunity for them for several reasons. First, it will enable them to gain valuable experience of playing conditions in the sub-continent. Secondly, they will be helping to develop cricket in another country. And, thirdly, they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different culture.

In addition, we look forward to welcoming a Bangladeshi player to Lord's for the 2005 season."

The long-established links between MCC and Bangladesh will be deepened when, in May, the Bangladesh team plays its first-ever Test match at Lord's.

Tickets for this match - beginning on Thursday 26th May - can be bought from MCC's Ticket Office either by 'phone (020 7432 1000) or on-line (www.lords.org).

The tickets are priced at 5 for children and 20 - 30 for adults.
