View Full Version : New Scenario: 20/20 Squad for BD

Now here comes a totally new format of cricket –the 20/20 Cricket, and hopefully BD will be entering into it in near future. As dictated by the nature of the game it’s focus is on High Strike-rate Batting only, and natural stroke-players having ability to score @100+ strike-rate should form the Squads.

This Squad is normally supposed to be bit different from the Test/ODI Squad and here is a list of players who can be highly preferred for that:

Prime Prospects
Aftab
Bashar
Asraful
Rafiq
Tapash
Mashrafee

Secondary Prospects
Nafees
Rajin
Pilot
Shahadat
Kapali
Rajjak (I heard he is a good hitter)

*Anyone know exact information on when BD will play their first Int. 20/20 matches?
**Maybe not for Tests/ODI’s but, we sure can try out some new faces from the U-19/Development squads. Who among the young ones got fantastic stroke-playing ability?

I agree with your team selection except I would put a slow bowling allrounder. In this format batsmen swing at everything and fast bowlers tend to go for more runs. If you consider Rana's batting ability to be a little better than Taposh then I'd put Rana in instead of Taposh. Rajin may also be a good option in this spot.

So the team would be like this;

Bashar
Aftab
Ashraful
Rafiq
Mashrafee
Rajin or Rana

Aftab, Ashraful, Rajin, Nafees, Kapali - they are all proper batsman, and young, In this list, may be Rajin will be best suited to play in 20-20 cricket; but if you let any one of this list to play in those tournaments, it'll just destroy their career. Either they will forget to play in tests or they will forget to play in ODIs. Rajin is the most suited to play is because currently, he has shown that he doesn't do anything foolish like Ashraful or Kapali tried to do when they were opening in One Dayers.

In short, most of the youngsters don't know the difference between test cricket and ODI cricket. So why confuse them with yet another type of cricket - 20-20?

In my opinion, the ideal hitters for 20-20 is the following:

1. Rafique
2. Mashrafee (but there's a possibility that he could falter like other youngsters)
3. Tapash
4. Sujon
5. Foisal Hossain (against spinners only)

Its amazing that I can't think of any other player whose career won't be hurt!

In terms of 'career risk'... I guess Tushar/Rokon can also be tried.
They are doing well in Leagues.. but we can't find places for them in Tests/ODIS's.. so why dont we play them in 20/20..

Very good point. Send in all the rejects then. And the has-beens.

OOPS! Never seen a 20/20 game. Know nothing about the rules. Played many 20 over games with 11 players.

Do spinners get to use use a different(old) ball?

Then why Aussies and Kiwis just played a T20I with 11 players on each side?

Sorry, I was wrong. Don't know where I got this idea. 20/20 is played with full team. My apologies.

Now I'm getting confused!:-/

Can anyone pls giv clear idea about 20/20's rules?
how many bowlers?
what are their quotas?

Most importantly... when is BD playing their first 20/20 matches??

someone in this forum mentioned that the tri-series of BD-ENG-AUS ahead is going to be 20/20. Is it correct??

absolutely right... we've fought so hard to get into a patience mode too.. and if we do get into 20/20, i seriously doubt we will do too well... i feel this way mainly coz there is a requirement for restricting-type bowling rather than any batting weakness... and i dnt knw if we are capable yet..

each team bats 20 overs.
each team has 11 players.
each bowler has a quota of 4 overs.
each team looks to whack the opponent as bad as they can.
BD-ENG-AUS will play a triangular odi series, before or after which eng-aus will play a 20-20 series.

That is where I am confused... coz This LINK (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,542-1458168,00.html) says it's a Three-way one-day tournament involving England, Australia and Bangladesh.

What is the correct info? and source??

AsifTheManRahman

it says a three-way-one-day tournament, not a 3 way 20-20 tournament. :)
