Shaptahik2000 has an extensive interview with Whatmore published in the current issue. Highlights of this interview are:

While asking if the contract would be renewed with BCB after May '05, Dev answered that the renewal question of his contract would be solved within 4 weeks from now.

About the rumour of his being the Indian coach after the term of contract is ended with BCB, Dev finds it pretty unfair to spread this kind of rumour since no Indian officials have ever talked to him with this issue.

Enjoy reading guys.

He also says that he is the lowest paid of all international coaches. If this is the case, BCB needs to inject some more $$ into his paycheck to get him to stay on with BD.

His comments about Habibul Bashar as captain are very interesting.

It seems he found bashar to be very capable and his view is totally opposite to what we often think of Bashar as captain. It seem he has got far more positives than we actually know him to have.

Great thing for BD team!

i was not dreaming about winning WC yet. but yeah, he was able to make me dream.

BCB need to keep this guy, even if that means selling their sthabor and osthabor shompotti.

Lets see what will happen in the next month.
Will he stay or leave for India (or other country)!?!

My personal opinion:
He is very much professional.
He is middle of his challenge-task he took in two years back (ignoring South Africa).
So he will NOT leave BD (given that no happenings occur with BCB).
So BCB should increase his payment...it is a must.

BCB should find some sponsor for out beloved coach.......
Is it a possible occurrance that a coach have a sponsor?????

Exactly! Because, Bashar is a very good captain. Captain doesn't mean how good he is in the field, it means a lot off the field also. I think Bashar is good in both categories. The thing I like about him is his humbleness. He knows he is the captain, but he doesn't like to take advantage of (unlike some of the previous captains)

If you beleive Whatmore, and there's no reason why one shouldn't then he's the lowest paid amogst the coaches. Interesting, isn't it?

Well, come to think about it. The 18 lakh they are spending on a "super-duper, kick-a-s-s, Uber" webpage, and other useless dumb project; could be better spent on the coach.

The last thing we need is to loose a coach like him.

At the end of the day, it's all about money, there is no reason why he should be the least paid coach; he surely deserves much more than that.

dev get around $4,000 US Dollar per month

$4000 ?

That's really really cheap, for a coach of his standard. In my opinion.

Hell, a cab driver probably earns more than that in NY.

What is the source of your information?

I believe Whatmore should be making in the region of 8-10,000 dollars a month. In fact, coaching a team like BD ought to be a higher paying job than coaching stronger teams since there are much greater responsibilities and pressures. Basically it is a harder job than, say, being the coach of Australia or India.

Does anyone know Watmore's actual salary? And how much other coaches make?

If it really is $4000/month, I'd say this is the bargain of the century.

I read somewhere he gets around $90,000 -- $100,000 per year. After that there are lot of bonus options, like for test/ODI win. And he is the highest paid coach BCB ever had.

Even 100K is a bargain. He may be the highest BCB ever paid but I'm sure there are others who're paid a lot more.

he gets 50 lakh taka (about $90,000) not %50,000(about $4,000).

i heard he got about $8000 salary without the other facilities. If everything is inlcuded it should come about 15000 $ /month...

It's actually natural.
Coz, BD is the youngest member in test group.. and BCB is probaby the Cricket board which earns least amount of money among the test nations.

I think Dav will ask BCB to raise his salary on renewal of his contract in May... and probably thats why he replied "Maybe.. and maybe not." when he was asked if BCB will renew his contract for sure.

Hence, I support a salary raise for him.. because he is highly devoted and his guidance has started working positively too. The team seems to be finding its strengths after 5 years now!

Lets giv Dav some Financial Credits for that too!

Watmore, ever the diplomat. Liked his answers to questions about problems with certain players.
