so what we have here:

8 genuin batsman: bashar, ash, JO, rajin, nafis, tushar, shahrier nafis, aftab.

5 quickie: shahadat, talha, nazmul, taposh, masri.

2 medium pacers: sujon, anwar hossain.

1 wicket keep: khaled masud

1 allrounder: rana (i know many will complain in the catagory i'm putting him).

3 SLA: rafique, enamul, rajjak.

i know some people can fall into more than one catagory.
pilot can be considered batsman.
rafique, chacha, mashrafee allrounder.

but i tryed to put the main tag on them.

what do we get from the team?

1. JO's days are numbered. we might see shahrier nafis in the main 16 as well.
2. why the hell anwar hossain monir in there? what have he done recently?
3. do we really need 7 pacer/seamer?
4. the more likely 4 in my view to get dropped are anwar hossain monir, abdul rajjak, tushar imran, talha jubair.

yeah, looks like both shahadat and shahrier nafis (abir?) is going to england. i'd play him at all the practice matches to see if he clicks. if he does, good bye JO.

Shahriar Nafis's days are numbered.

The messiah openner is coming:

Golam Rahman.

Next year.

golam rahman seems like a solid opening lefty in the ncl, as solid as we've seen in many years in any batting position. if he continues this performance into the international arena, he'll definitely be in contention for the test team. but i dont think he'll get in the odi team, not with the way he bats now. shahriar nafis will definitely get the nod ahead of him for one days.

I agree.

Golam rahman likes to bat forever and isn't the one day type.

Glad to see that Shariar Nafees has been included in the squad. I am pretty sure he will make it in the final touring squad as well. We need another opener in the squad. He should play all the practice/warm ups. If he fails, Omar will continue, still that will be valuable for him in terms of gathering experience for future as he will be one of our other opener in the long term.

They shouhld have picked Nazimuddin (top order batsman) instead of Anwar hossain Munir. Anwar is not gonna make the 16 member team anyway, why keeping him. While Nazimuddin had some practice in England condition with U19 team and reasonably consistent at least better than JO in ncl. Again having opprotunity to net practice with Nazim would have been better then that of Anwar Munir.

Very predictable 20 isn't it? I am not surprised that neither Wascoroni nor Golam Rahman has made it into the team. Actually, I am quite happy about that. They should go on A/u19 tours first, and come up slowly into the national fold rather than getting thrown into the deep end in such a crucial series. Raj and Monir will surely not be going to England. So now its basically a question of picking 16 from 18. And even more specifically, it will come down to a fight between Tushar and Nafees for the last batting spot, and between Chacha and Talha for the last bowling spot. If it were up to me, I'd take Nafees and Talha for the test matches, and then send Javed Omar, Rajib and Talha back after the test series and send in Tushar and Chacha for the ODIs.

well we been hearing shariar nafees and shahadat husseins name for a long time. and they finally get a shot. golam rahman playing superbly in the NCL but he needs to perform in u-19 world cup which will be next year. i think if he keeps up what he is doing he will get a chance for the national team. but i like this 20 man squad. lets see how the 15 man squad turns out to be.

one more thing. its great that selectors finally decided to drop alok kapali its about time. he needs to play domestic cricket and get back his form and confident. but i know you all will agree that he has gotten enough chances. he was great before but now he is in very bad form and the national team cant keep him just on the bases of his talent. he needs to perform as well. if he is really as talented as people say he is he will be back.

Of the people in the list one can't help get a nagging feeling that we are still short of a batsman. Going into the test matches in England without a comfortable opening pair (that has been tried and tested before is disturbing, especially if we consider that Trescothick - our opposite number 1) is returning to form.

In retrospective, the failure of Sarkar to perform as the promising opener since the Australia tour has not been fixed or dealt with by the selectors.

Some quotes from cricinfo report regarding 20-man training squard.

About Alok's ommision
<b>"One notable omission is Alok Kapali, Bangladesh's underachieving allrounder"</b>

About Shahadat & Shahriar
<b> "they have a degree of experience despite their tender years. " </b>

About Inclusion of Tushar and Anwar
<b>"The batsman, Tushar Imran and the seam bowler, Anwar Hossain Munir, have been recalled after consistent performances for the Bangladesh A team and the BCB XI respectively"</b>

About Inclusion of ChaCha
<b>"the former captain and allrounder, Khaled Mahmud, whose form in Bangladesh's domestic competitions has been irresistible." </b>

Yes, we are that Bad. We can't even produce spinners in Bangladesh's domestic circuit - let alone pacers!

From the Daily Star, I read that the performance of the teenagers in the U19's tour to England last year have influenced the decision of the selectors in choosing Shahriar Nafees & Shahadat Rajib. Can anyone give the stats of these 2 players from the last England tour (of them)?

I think Anwar Hossain Munir is in the 20-member team because he can produce bounce with the ball; however, I had only seen him in South Africa on bouncy pitches. In addition, I think the BCB XI's tour to India had carried more weight to the selectors and the good performance of our players in the Duleep trophy helped the selectors to decide who is at what standard - considering that Indian domestic cricket still has some pretty good batsman who had to face Anwar Munir inspite of no member of the Indian national team playing in their domestic matches.

It will be interesting to see who the last members of the tour party would be especially since it is mentioned (on Daily Star) that 16 players will be selected, instead of only 14.

In that case, the following are certain in the team in the Test team:

1. Javed Omar
2. Nafees Iqbal
3. Habibul Bashar
4. Rajin Saleh
5. Md. Ashraful
6. Aftab Ahmed
7. Khaled Mashud (wk)
8. Mashrafee Bin Murtoza
9. Md. Rafique
10. Tapash Baisya
11. Shahadat Hossain Rajib
12. Enamul Haque Junior

Who will be the rest 4 players for the test team?:-

1) Shahriar Nafees - a specialist opener - back up for Javed & Nafees Iqbal, but is England the right place (or the best place) to give a young player - especially an opening batsman a debut game?

2) Nazmul Hossain - a seamer who played his debut match in England, however, he has clearly shown that he's not the best pace bowler to play in longer version matches - as he proved in the Duleep trophy.

3) Monjurul Islam Rana - a back up spinner to both Enamul Junior & Md. Rafique; but as his performance in Duleep trophy suggests, he is more of a batsman than a bowler, so if he's selected in the 16-member team, will he be there just for his batting - as a backup middle order batsman to Aftab, Ashraful, and Rajin? Because, the top 3 positions in England is not the right position for him to bat.

4) Talha Jubair - Along with Anwar Hossain Munir, he has shown some good performance in the Duleep trophy. But then again, his performance against the Indian national team in 1 test match consisting of Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly, Sehwag - did he show enough to be selected for England? Yes, that lone test match played by him was in Bangladesh, where pitches are not meant to be suitable for his pace.

There is still one question remains. Will the One Day squad be changed - one or two players returning to Bangladesh after the test series over and same number of players going to England for the ODI series like before?

Good to see Abir in the squad.....We have played together for a good 3-4 years when we were in grade 6 to 8....He used to go to Kalabagan Cricket Coaching and was already a star in OUR CRICKET.....Used to blast the big bhiayas for six with enormous ease......Even his younger brother who was very young then used to bowl those guglis with awesome control.....I believe Abir's yonger brother is also in some age group squad at present...Although we hardly meet each other now....I still have this "Fell good factor" in me whenever he does well......Wish him all the best and hope he makes it into the final squad...cheers....

These 13 are more or less confirmed to be in:
Bashar, Rafiq, Mashrafee, Tapash, Pilot, Sujon, Javed, Ashraful, Rajin, Nafees, Aftab, Rana, Enamul Jr.

So there are not much scopes for assumtion.

The remaining 3 will probably be as simple as this:

1 Specialist Batsman ( From Tushar/Shahriar Nafees)
2 Pacers (From Shahadat/Nazmul/Talha/Monir)

I think these three has the hightst chances of going in:
Tushar
Shahadat
Nazmul

*There's a high possibility for Rajjak to be left out. And later on, 12 member Test or ODI squads will be picked from these 16.

Excellent squad picked by BCB. I am really happy to see Shahriar Nafees Ahmed in the squad as i have very high hopes for him after watching him in England last year.

Also no messing about picking first year rookies in Golam Rahman and Wascoroni as they still have to proof themselves in under 19's and A'teams.

Four to be left out of the 20 as follows, Anwar Hossain, Talha Jubair, Abdul Rajjak and Khaled Mahmud.

Khaled Mahmud to play in ODI's sending Javed Omar back home.

The 4 that will be left out of the 16... will neither play tests nor ODI's...they wont be in the team anymore. I don't think Shujon will be left out of the 16-Squad.. he will be in.

yes newspapers reported that they are not gonna have two teams this time and thats the reason of having 16 men squad. dont have any news link now.

given that its england condition and chacha has done very well in NCL, he will be in. read Sham's post and it does make sense, talha will be left out. other 3 to accompany talha is pretty clear in my opinion: tushar, rajjak and munir.

In fact I always do. I had a wild guess that it might be Shariar Nafis when I came up with the nick Abir in the front page. Just wanted to make sure about it. Man we bengalis have so many different nick names that lead to confusion. Don't worry we are gonna mumble out this name days in days off like Sumon or kaushik as soon as he starts to score some decent runs in highest level:up:
