Will leaving out Enamul Junior be too bad an idea in England?

Please consider the wet pitch & the wickets during May-June. Also, don't forget to look at the stats of other Asian teams when on tour to England, if possible.

Below is the Indian squad to England during June-September 2002:

India Test Squad

*SC Ganguly
SS Das
W Jaffer
R Dravid
SR Tendulkar
VVS Laxman
V Sehwag
Harbhajan Singh
+A Ratra
+PA Patel
A Kumble
Z Khan
A Nehra
A Agarkar
T Yohannan
SB Bangar

Notice that they did take both Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in their squad. In the first 2 tests, they played Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh - only 1 spinner in each test, and in the 3rd & the 4th test, they played both of them together.

well, i don't think it's really a good idea to include anyone other than rafique in the team when they're playing in England in May/June...the conditions are just not good enough to play two spinners; besides, enam is not very experienced and i doubt he will do well in spinner "unfriendly" conditions. picking one spinner and three/four pacers (the fourth one being aftab, on occassions) will be the way to go imo.

He won't be in my first XI but he should go on tour!

i'd not play him in test but i'll definitely take him with because there is gonna be one team for test and odi and there is no better choice to take with. out of the 20 men squad, lets do some calculation:

1. anwar hossain monir - faruk cleaverly included him to do all the hard work like continuous bowling in net, carrying bagges and staff so that other can get some rest. england was not even in mind selecting him.
2. tushar imran was called so that the bowlers can gain some confidence by getting him out every other ball. hannan would have been a better choice but that would raise some question. england is not in far horizon for him.
3. talha: not a bad call but will not have a chance fighting against taposh, masri, nazmul and shahadat.
4. razzak might be a better batsman than enamul but enamul is a better bowler for test. razzak fails to claim place in odi because of rana. so, rana and enamul gets advantage in each form and leaving razzak out.

i can bet my entire past life in this, these four gonna be left out.

yep, but bd cant play both spinenrs who are both sla's. india had variation with leg spin and off same with sri lanka, upal chandana and murali, those 4 players are more or less established spinners where unfortunately we 1 have one sla no leggie , so ash could become a use to bowl out some overs.

ofcourse enamul should be in the tour to england and he will be in the tour to england. the u-19 played in england just few month ago so enamul has freash experience playing there. and after the series angainst zimbabwe i dont think selectors will leave him out.. he will go to england but he maybe dropped for one test that is if they want to play extra fast bowler.

Thilan Samaraweera got about 340 wickets in SL first class cricket. Does that make him a descent spinner? He started as a off spinner and later he has become a specialist batsman. Chandana is more a leg spinner. Arvinda was a handy offie and there was Jaysuria.

My point is SL team has some multi skilled players who can bowl like a specialist spinner of BD standard.

BD should take Enam to England and one of Enam-Rafique should play in first 11.

In Tests on Eng condition, pitch plays a big role. That's why Rafiq and Rana could come up easily. Since Rana is doing better that Enamul with that bat he's getting preference. Spin might not play key role over there though Enamul is more aggressive (Wkt taking) than Rana in bowling.

On the other hand, English players' inability to cope with quality spin is not unknown. Therefore, even the pitch is not spinner friendly, Enamul's spin could prove fruitful compared to that of Rana.

I think, it's a big dilemma to decide on this in the present ciscumstance. The overall team composition may have an impact on whether to take Rana or Enamul decision. If the team takes on 3 pacers (Plus one occassional in Aftab) then only spinner in final 11 will be Rafiq. No Rana No Enamul. But if the team decides to take 2 spinners, obviously it will eliminate one pacer. In that case the second spinner (beside Rafiq) will need to be able to bat as well. So I think Rana is ahead in the race from that point of view.

haha The pitch would be damp so , what the spinners gonna do there ? England never has a very good spinners in their lineup too . So , if we take Enamul so , what ya gonna say would leave "Rafique" how can we be ? Although Rafique is the Man .......... Manjarul could be 2nd option with good avg with bat . Enamul avg at the bat would be not much though . Danish Kaneria is good bowler ? But does he play in odi ? He doesn't .......... caz , that's the way it's ............... Now stop the "Enamul Fever"

Rana will not be effective with bat in English seaming condition. Enam should be in the team no matter what. He can at least be a back up for Rafiq just in case he gets injured.
