"Being compact" is considered good because we get to assume that means good enough technique to hold on to your wicket and survive playing defensively. That's not always the case as proven over the years by Rajin and Rocky, and the way their international careers came to an inevitable, thrashing end. Those two -- because of their inability to sight the ball, find gaps and rotate the trike -- would always get bogged down before getting out cheaply.
Gazi looks defensively more sound but Raju's defense isn't bad either. Gazi hasn't lasted long enough in the middle and scored significant runs for us to assume that he'll do better that Raju, someone who has done both WELL. I think Raju has genuine batting talent that needs to be developed into consistent runs. I think Gazi also has potential, but we have yet to see just how much.
