Yes he should have taken more calculated risk early on, he left it a little too late but he will learn.

Absolutely, he was a touch selfish early on. When u have batsmen like Tamim, Shakib, Nasir as ur partner, you should take some risks as a T20 specialist in the side. You dont have to support the other end... So some calculated risks were required for his position.
