When players performed below their expectation we just gave them the axe whereas they should have been given a Specialist Coach to work with to correct their mistakes. Similarly we wiped out the next generation as well sacking Ehsanul Haque, Saleh, Kapali etc.
Sri Lanka doesnt have the luxury of a large player pool to choose from. But they have stuck to their principle. They dont bring in any player until they prove themselves in domestic cricket and A team consistently. And they ensure the national team has a good blend of youth and experience. Just look at their newcomer Malinda Warnapura- this guy is 29 with loads of First Class experience!
