I like the story of him facing Brian Statham aged 54. This would have been first class. I'm surprised that he never played again in any cricket. WG Grace was the opposite. When he finally admitted that he wasn't good enough to play first class cricket he played a lot for his club in South London, even on one occasion (aged 65) coming in at no.11.
It also reminds me of a story I heard a while ago about Denis Compton (aged 50 something) facing Richie Benaud in a TV match in England. Both players were also commentating live, with Compton wearing what looked like a spaceman's jetpack with an aerial sticking out the side of it. Bizarre.
