This is not a bad piece, but it's not entirely fair.

The writer is of course right to point out that not enough unknown local batsmen contributed significantly to the BPL. However, although not among the top 10 or 20 run-scorers, Mominul Haque, Anamul Haque and to a lesser extent Mizanur Rahman played some promising knocks in a competition dominated by the big names (http://digicricket.marssil.com/match...ent.aspx?id=15)

And it is unfair bordering on the disingenuous for the writer to say on the one hand that unknown local players achieved nothing and then dismiss the BD bowlers who have performed well because they are left arm spinners!

Five of the top 10 bowlers in the BPL are locals. Of those Elias Sunny (the joint highest wicket taker with Mohammed Sami) is just starting his international career, Enamul is maturing after a period in the wilderness and Arafat Sunny is a virtual unknown. Moreover, if we extend the list of bowlers to the top 15, Saqlain Sajib (a local unknown) and Suhrawardi Shuvo also make the list.

In terms of batting experienced BD players have underperformed so it seems harsh to expect virtual unknowns to succeed. Nonetheless, it is clears foreigners outshone the locals.

However, as far as the bowling goes BD players more than held their own and a few newbies made an impact too. It is churlish to gloss over this achievement just because they are spinners....
