We have never selected 15 out of 15 players with the basic ability to sustain success at this level. Developing that ability into the type of application that can produce consistently acceptable performances in the international arena is altogether a different, qualitatively adequate infrastructure related issue, but lacking that, you have to select according to ability first and foremost in my opinion.

Then again, you have to know what that ability is or at the least, understand what's going on in front of your face whenever you watch international cricket. Our deficit there is infinitesimally greater than the shameful inability to speak shundor Bangla, or the cavalier disregard for putting together a grammatically correct English sentence with properly selected and spelled words when posting on an Internet forum without shamelessly copy-pasting content from elsewhere. But that's obviously debatable.

Anyway, the point is, we always start with at least a quartet of dead weight pretty much guaranteed to drag us down to cricketing suckiness at least 8 out of 10 times in the international arena. We always start with that handicap. Things look especially dismal when our usual performers fail to perform and there's no streaky and therefore unsustainable performance from someone else in the lineup. Brain dead captaincy from a clueless captain susceptible to random brain freezes completes the humiliation. Together, this gives people the impression that we don't have enough talent in the country to truly deserve the status we've had for a decade now. This provides regular, anti-Bangladesh fodder for the Tools and PhDouches out there. They know flukes contrary to the painful to watch norm can and does happen even when we choose not to recognize them as such.

So, we're left with anomalies and our collective prayer. We have plenty of both to go with our alga matobbori and BS opinions while natural, organic progression all to often fueled by our passion slowly moves us forward.
