Abul Hasan's was the story of the day after Fidel Edwards picked up a bagful. Not only did he become the first ever since 1902 to score a century at debut batting at number 10, it was an almost chanceless knock, and would have deflated the West Indian bowling completely.
Hasan also overshadowed Mahmudullah's unbeaten 72, who at number eight, proved to be the backbone of the Bangladeshi innings. Given his Test match record - as indeed his average in the ODIs - it is a wonder he does not bat higher up the order by at least a couple of notches. . . . . . .
