Default Al-Shahriar back in Business

Experienced top-order batsman Al-Shahriar earned a recall to the national team's primary camp yesterday as a reward for his brilliant form in the ongoing Ispahani Mirzapore Tea National Cricket League. The tall right-hander, who scored 683 runs in 15 Tests at an average of 22.77, joined the camp of Dav Whatmore yesterday morning that raised the number of players to 18 from 17.

"We needed another batsman in the camp and that's why we considered Al-Shahriar," said Bangladesh coach Whatmore while talking to The daily Star Sport yesterday night.

Al-Shahriar scored highest 328 runs in five first-class matches this season at 46.85. When asked whether Al-Shahriar would be a part of the team to tour Namibia and Zimbabwe later this month, Whatmore said everybody in the camp had equal chances.

"Even the ones now touring Pakistan with the A team are also under our consideration," said Whatmore who is also a member of the four-member selection committee led by former Bangladesh captain Faruque Ahmed. Al-Shahriar last played for the country during the tour of Australia in August last year.
