One thing I noticed about most british movies/TV in general is that they are more focused on acting skills. They hardly emphasize on looks and glamour. A lot of the leading cast in British TV shows would struggle to get a role in American TV.
TBH the British actors these days tend to be a bit better looking than they were in the 80s and 90s. But yes the acting is given more focus in the UK which is why many British actors getting serious roles in the US these days. Few examples are House: Hugh Laurie, and Damien Lewis in Billions+Homeland+Band of Brothers .

UK TV dramas also have better music and better landscape shots. They try to make the production close to the real thing.
