there has been recent discussions in the french league about cricket starting in northern france. you have certainly mentioned a lot of dates without emphasising on the significance of them (cutting and pasting is a nice exercise ). certainly in england hambledon cricket club (i visited the pub last summer where the ground once stood) did the most to popularise the game. they use to regularly beat good county sides like sussex and played for wager. the idea of 11 players per team had not been made a constant fixture until the middle of 19th century. what can be agreen upon is that cricket started out as a wager and betting had been part of it certainly in england since its inception.
